This is what I wrote. Who knows, this is a time of change after all....

Dear Pres. Obama

As you may know, E-cigarettes are getting popular right now. I heard that the state representative from Florida gave you a gift of one a while back. The reason for its popularity is that many of us who use this product have quit smoking actual cigarettes and have gotten healthier. Personally, I've tried many products to quit smoking and for many of us this is the only product that has worked. I know that since you were a former smoker, smoking may be one of the hardest things to quit from and many of us do not have the support group that you may have had.

The issue currently is that many companies or private suppliers have their shipments of e-cigarettes or accesories stalled in customs due to FDA regulations of the recently passed "nicotine control" act. I will forgo the conspiracy theories of "big tobacco" trying to limit the use of this product for the fear of their profit margins but instead draw analogies from the auto industries fear of the electric car. Yes, electric cars are scary and may change the auto industry but it was that fear of innovation of a better product that led to the disaster we are in today.

Electric cigarettes help many people in the US. The majority of people buying/selling these products are individuals and not big companies. Most of the individuals selling these products do it as a side business and actively love/use the product and just wish to share its access to newcomers everywhere. I know my wife has been thoroughly happy that I've quit smoking. The benefits definitely outweigh the risks. I've been using E-cigs for the past 2 months and already I've enjoyed a bigger lung capacity, my sense of smell has returned, and I no longer exhude 2nd hand smoke.

As a former smoker, you may understand the cravings of a real cigarette and I definitely do not fault the tobacco companies for such a wonderful but addicting product. Smoking is a choice, however E-cigarettes should also be a choice and a viable alternative to quit smoking. Although it may not be politically viable to stand for such a product, however there are people who definitely rely on this product and would be left out in the cold should such a ban be carried out.

I invite you to read up and understand the testimony and effects of E-cigarettes on normal US citizens at this wonderful forum site.

**Link to this forum** (Can't post a link yet since i'm 15 posts shy)

Spend a few hours and see why people love this product. You'll find that its not because its cheaper than actually smoking but that its effects of becoming healthy and not hurting those around us that really draw us to it.

This could have a negative effect, don't you see he needs the cigarette taxes, that's why he raised them.

And here I thought the goal of raping smokers with taxes was to get them to quit......

Now they talk of banning the one gadget that might succeed in getting smokers to quit....gotta love the USA

No.. the entire concept of the cigg tax, is because you have a captive audience.
I CANNOT grow my own tobacco.... ok, I CAN but it's illegal, and if they catch me I'm in trouble. I have to have some sort of special permission, at least on a large scale, cause I wanted to plant organic tobacco on the twenty acres of spelt dad plowed under.
(No questions on why he plowed it under, cause I don't know... someone made him mad, and that was the end result.)

Anyone can beat the beer/wine tax... I know people that got ticked off and now have little micro breweries in their basements that are amazing.

It's impossible to raise the gas tax too far, everyone uses it.

So, you have to go for a small group... (non majority) of the users of a substance, that has been deemed 'bad' for you.
BONUS if some company can make billions of dollars off products that 'help' the user of the substance to quit.
It's also helpful if you can spread propaganda on how said substance also causes untold wasted health care dollars.

The flip side of the coin... is those people, PAY the highest percentage of taxes in the country.
To top it off, they won't BE wasting untold medical dollars getting things like knee replacements, hanging out in nursing homes, or collecting social security... cause they are DEAD.

From a business perspective it isn't good to have smokers quit.
1) The government loses the lovely tax dollars.
2) They live longer, AND the government has to pay out the SS money, that they already SPENT on other stuff.
3) Another group has to be found to hate, everyone needs a group that can be hated.

Well, here in the states, we are no longer allowed to hate:

The Gays
Any Minority (Blacks, Hispanics, Chineese, etc.)
The Jews
The Handicapped
The Commies
We can't hate a group of people based on their religion, race, creed, nationality or sexual orientation, so let's hate based on personal choices (except, of course, for the gays....they have their own protections).

Let's hate the smokers. Next, we'll hate the chubbo's. They're going to run out of groups to hate........ Then we'll all be plain Jane, John Q. Public, John Doe's with as much personality and individualism as a white cotton briefs - can you say "send in the clones?"

There's still time - nicotine is still legal in this country.....we need to have each and every smoker/vaper/snus user/nicotine gum addict - in short, everyone who uses nicotine as a recreational drug contact their representatives and demand that their rights to personal choice be protected, not trampled.....
We need to contact the anti groups out there, and offer our stories and experiences.
We need to offer our stories to the Harm Reduction camp.
We need to be loud, proud, and ready!

Hey, it worked for the Gays........they got protected status by demanding their rights...

What exactly is protected status?

And don't confuse "not allowed to hate" with "not allowed to personally attack" whether verbally or otherwise. We can still hate whomever we want. No one can tell you what to think or feel regarding anything.

Maybe I hate women. I have the right to feel that way, but there are consequences once I go on about the inferiority of the female brain; I get ostracized at work, I don't get invited to parties, I don't get dates etc. No laws need be passed in order for this to happen. People simply know a misogynistic bigot when they hear one.

you might have to get some kind of licensing to grow 20 acres but not for 20-30 plants which would be way more than you could smoke in a year anyway
