Well serious health issues need attention. Hope I didn't come off as too flippant.

My experience has been that I manage to get over whatever and live without the annual physical and whatnot. To be clear I didn't believe I had diabetes in the first place. I'd be the first in my family, although you could argue it's gotta start somewhere.

No, please disregard my rant if you have a serious health issue and see a doctor.

Just don't ever...ever take metformin. Stuff is like drain cleaner for your colon. Only time I was out of the bathroom was to take it, then right back in...

I've taken metformin (preemptively, it was while I was on a Poly-ovarian-syndrome inducing drug, which if you don't know what one of those is, you don't WANT to) and I had 0 problems with it. My mom was put on it and had a dreadfully hard time.... She has a sensitive stomach and I don't. In fact... I noticed nothing at all, really, about metformin, other than I didn't turn into a man, grow facial hair, and stop menstruating, so that was a win. :)

I'm kinda thinking we should head back into vaping territory. I was very happy (and my doc was very happy) that I am vaping, and I DID find it interesting that absolutely every reading a PCP could take in office turned out excellent. VAPING WINS!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

Back in 2012, my doctor admittedly didn't know much about e-cigs or vaping. He was all for stop smoking of course. He wrote in my medical records, "Lynn has stopped smoking with his water pipe." He was referring to my mod and cartotank.

It will be 6 years free of cigarettes this coming April. No question in my mind I'm healthier now than in 2012.

I make it a point to ask every doctor and respiratory specialist I see what they think about vaping. Even it is just someone I run into at a hospital if I take someone else or something. So far I just get the standard answer. I would prefer you didn't put anything in your lungs you shouldn't, or "we just don't know enough about it yet".

I have a doctors appointment with a new doctor in about an hour so I will ask her too.

Most of my doctors are pretty chill though. Every time I have a test and the results are normal they just say "everything was fine, keep doing what you are doing.". And I reply " you mean chain vaping, drinking Dr Pepper and eating doritos in front of the tv?". To which they respond "whatever works lol".

I will say though that vaping has all but cured my asthma and allergies. Or I outgrew them at the age of 40?

After a couple years of me setting my mod on the table between us with no discussion, he just put it on the medication chart and for the dosage he asked " once in the morning?", I replied "sure" :). Stayed that way for a few more years and then one day he mentioned it being bad for the children. We did not discuss at all last time.

Well I went to see my new doctor yesterday, actually she is a PA not a doctor. What a ... catastrophe that was. I went there to get a referral to get an ultrasound of my gal bladder since I can't eat anymore without waking up in extreme pain and throwing up. And to get my prilosec prescription refilled. Instead I got lectured about how vaping is just as bad as smoking, that I shouldn't drink dr pepper and about my bad posture while sitting on the table lol. It was just an hour and a half of her arguing and belittling me pretty much. They were more concerned with my mental health issues, which I told them is none of their business. I have a team of mental health providers and that isn't why I was there. She refused to refill my prilosec prescription because "new studies" show it isn't good for long term use. I asked if there was something better then and she said "try eating healthier". Gee, in the 25 years I have had acid reflux I never thought about trying that, what an idiot. Then she ordered a bunch of tests I have already had when I was in the ER for my stomach. You know, the one that told me to go to my doctor and ask to have an ultra sound done because in the MRI it looked like my gal bladder might be enlarged.

Oh and she actually used the popcorn lung thing to defend her position on vaping. I don't think she expected me to know as much about the subject as I did lol.

I think I am going to cancel my follow up in two weeks and just find another doctor. Maybe I will tell them since vaping is so bad for me I am just going to go back to smoking and drinking again lol.

I had a dentist say I was a smoker because I vaped outside. After tooth pull, they ranted about not smoking, and I said, "I don't smoke." It was a commotion. So I pulled an Anna and vaped through my nose. I realized I didn't need to close the other nostril. The TFV4 with 4 bottom and 4 top airflows was airy enough. So I vaped normally.

DUDE, I'm sorry about your tooth, but SO GLAD someone tried my method, LOL. Congrats, 90VG, I bet it was way easier than you thought? I also found that the nasal membranes are fantastic when it comes to absorbing nicotine. To be fair, I was passed out from pain a lot after most of my implant surgeries, but I also found I went through WAYYYYY less liquid.

All these benefits do not outweigh the enjoyment of vaping via mouth, however.

Get well soon!! :) (Your tooth).

I am well, I was pretty much fine the next day. Went to normal vaping (top 4 closed) 3 days later. I have a good dentist, doesn't leave you all tore up. Grand total pain medication taken: 3 Ibuprofens.

It worked great. I had the gauze packed in there, how is inhaling going to hurt that? So I used the nose, thinking of your post. Actually, I planned on doing that.

My normal doctor was really stoked and surprised, I was pretty happy with that actually. Obviously vaping is a good thing she made a point to congratulate me about it and gave the speech about how knocking off all those chemicals is such a good thing. Another doctor for a another annoying factor in life also did the same, when I told him I've quit and vape now on a check up when the 'Still smoking?" question came while updating me on his comp, he spun around in his chair with a big grin and congratulated me, said how much it's going to help in the long run having kicked the smoke and going to vape. So there must be some positive and good vibes about it in the medical community. So far it's been positive through and through with everyone that finds out about me having knocked off the Camels and gone to vaping. Must be a a good thing then!

My local cancer doctor, first saw him spring of 2016, was against vaping but on next visit said he had looked into vaping more and had changed his medical opinion and now believed that vaping was way less harmful than cigarettes, with the caution that more long term studies were needed.
Last visit, late November, he checked out the cancer area of throat with the scope down the nose, felt for bumps, everything still looking good and then we talked about fishing for 10 minutes.
Realized driving home he got 2 fishing spots out of me without giving up one of his own. Medical malpractice don't you think

Ok, an update to my post now that I have seen another doctor. This time a saw a "real" doctor, not a PA. An older gentleman, he is actually my moms doctor. He is one of those country doctors that is pretty straight forward and says it like it is. Which I like. Also it only took me 4 days to get an appointment, and that was because I called on Friday and had to wait the weekend to see him. And they apologized for that! The other place it takes over a month to get an appointment, if not closer to 4 months. It also wasn't a three hour visit lol. I think I was there about half an hour? And that included them scheduling me for some tests and switching to their in house pharmacy.

During my visit I told him about the PA telling me vaping was as bad as smoking. He said that was ridiculous, of course it is better than smoking and she needs to do some more research. I said she was going on about popcorn lung and stuff like that. He asked if I worked at a microwave popcorn factory and I said no. He said I think you are safe then lol. He also didn't care that I drink dr pepper. He said it probably wasn't that great for my anxiety though. He filled my omeprozal prescription, ordered an ultrasound for my gall bladder and also filled my psych meds for a year! Down side is he is making me get a colonoscopy or whatever it is called since I am 50. I said " I don't want to.". He said "I don't care" LOL.

I think I am going to like this guy.

@Paul Mohr Wait till they make you drink the powder mixed with water the night before. If you don't have an exhaust fan in the bathroom, I suggest you install one. (Even if you rig it with an extension cord and box it in the window with cardboard.) That stuff cleans out the whole system. They can put that probe all the way in, pull it out and it's clean as a whistle after you drink that stuff.

I'd also suggest a 2 bathroom residence if you live with someone else, and maybe move a small TV in there, a tablet and a headrest for the toilet. You won't be leaving the bathroom all night.

Anyways, I'm glad you've found a better doctor! That helps a lot.

    Take care,

    90VG

PS: Think about a hotel room the night before...
