So I was given a free e-cig last night.

Many of you remember the Camel Girls going out to bars.You showed them an I.D and they gave you two free packs of cigarettes?

Last night I was out in Richmond Va at a local bar and R.J Reynolds had reps taking IDs, getting email addresses and giving out free Vuse ecigs. They appear to be 510's with an included USB charger and their proprietary prefilled cartridges that they falsely claim are equal to one pack of cigarettes.

Quite a few people were taking them upon the offer as well.

They even gave me one despite me delighting in showing them what a real e-cig looks like. (Provari with a Phiniac tank and Krankberry from Fusion)

Wow that is just funny to me. Man i used to get all my non smoking friends to get the camels from the girls. I would walk out any given night with at least 2 cartons. Now they are moving along. How did they know who to target with these free e-cigs? Back in the day we all smoked in the bars so they knew who would take them. Now it is rare if you can.

They were at a bar in Richmond that allows smoking.Many of the bars here still do because the money from cocktail and beer is FAR better than the profit from food.

Virginia law says that you have to have separate entrances and separate ventilation systems if youre going to allow smoking. I laughed until I cried when I saw bars moving the non smokers outside on the patio in response.

The smoking ban in this state is a joke anyway. No one enforces it, because all the health department employees work M-F 9-5.

Standard 510 connection on the VUSE I think.The battery looks like a Yeti, if anyone remembers those. Im actually giving this one to my Dad so will wait until he opens it before checking. Will def let you know.

Hey, that's great! The whole reason I got started on vaping and got off cigarettes is that someone gave me a free e-cig. Okay, it was a truly wretched and miserable device, but it got me started and I didn't have to smoke while it was working, so I embarked on the search for something better rather than go back to smoking.

I think it's wonderful someone is doing this!

The last time I heard connector details it was still in test marketing in Colorado only. At that time it was a proprietary connector with male/female threads reverse of 510, like 808. Both the battery and cartridges had circuit chips that had to see each other to fire.

This could have changed since then but it seemed at the time they wanted everything to be proprietary. That makes no sense to me. Imagine if there was a traditional cigarette brand that need a special lighter just to fire one up.

But hey, free! I'd try one for free like I did with the Njoy I carried with me for a while as an emergency back up.

Sucks if it's a proprietary threading, but if it's not too bad of a device, it could help some smoker see vaping as an option.... and ultimately here in their search for a better device.
Wouldn't that just suck for big tobacco... give out millions of dollars in devices, with no return on the investment LOL

I hate that they don't say the nic mg on their cartos. I got a coupon in the mail for my free vuse, one ecig and a pack of cartos. It doesn't work to bad though for a starter I suppose. It doesn't produce enough vapor for me though.

They can flood the market with that crap all they like, I'll never buy it. People vote with their money and their feet, and when they aren't satisfied with BT's junk products they will start looking for something better, as I and so many others did. As long as I can get mesh and kanthal, and the stuff to make my own juice with I'm doing fine.

Of course they will want to ban all sales of liquid nicotine so they have a monopoly on that, which is the real danger, and of course their next big move.

I did some research on this and it seems there are already many reports of people trying the Vuse and instantly no longer smoking cigarettes but people don't want to buy "cartridges" from big tobacco (for very long). This could be a stepping stone to more people vaping with a real unit... I started with the Ego and soon wanted a battery that lasts forever and an atomizer tank that doesn't need to be refilled often, a few short months later I had a litre of liquid nicotine, PG, VG, flavours and was mixing my own e-juice because I didn't like paying $10 or 10 ml of e-juice at the local vape shop when I knew I could mix the same amount of the same thing for well under $1.

While many will fall for it and stick with it (because they don't know better), given the MANY reports of people quitting smoking with this thing it might be only a matter of time before this back fires for them. I say we let them finally prove that it is "safe" and prove that is effective in helping people quit smoking.

As soon as I started vaping I knew Pandora's box had been opened and there was no putting everything back inside. There is so much good hardware out there now that as hard as they try they are doing too little, too late and at this point will only add fuel to the fire they don't control and want to stamp out.

Ahhh. I used to love the camel girls and I didn't smoke camels unless they were free. Every now and then I would buy a pack of unfiltered.

If BT can do this, it would stand to reason that the other "smaller" shops could as well. Maybe some sample liquids or such?

The best was a few years ago. Smoking was already banned inside. The Ohio law was just voted through. Silly Ohioans. Anyway my wife a few friends and I went out that night for a late dinner and drinks. There were Guinness girls at the pub in little tiny german outfits giving away free samples of Guinness and Harps. It was a great night and yes we had quite a few samples.

If BT would just make them more affordable, I for one would be all over them. 10 bucks for 10 minutes of vape is too much.. I am not in the 1%.

Many times it has been stated here that you can't put a price on quitting. Whether it be a 200 dollar device or a 40 dollar bottle of liquid. The same could also be said for that in their defense. Personally, I do not proscribe to that thought. I want it cheap and work.

I got the free kit and refill from the coupon mailer. It's actually not as bad as I expected. Definitely better than the awful Blu that I started with before finding out that wasn't the only game in town. I doubt if I will be buying more cartridges but it was free so why not try it.

I recognize that BT is merely pimping out their product right now; and, honestly, it's 2014... a 510 auto, really??? If, however, it gets folks off of the stink sticks then, heck yes, GREAT!

Proprietary this and microchipped that - I see parallels to the printing ink cartridges trade:

Printer is comparatively cheap - the prices for a pack of genuine refills for it could drive a zen monk berserk.

K, printer makers havent got the same clout as BT lobbyists.
Won't stop vapers ingenuity. Seen too many clips on YT about rebuilding attys that weren't really meant to get rebuilt.
I have faith in my fine motorically gifted brethren in the vaping community that they're going to shoot down that BT ploy

No need to ever buy cartridges when you can fill them yourself...for far cheaper. Even the cartos they claim arent refillable are.

Many of us used to use blue aquarium foam back in the day as filler material. Be cautious if trying that though, not all aquarium foams are safe for use.
