Right, but the proactive steps being taken should help ease people's concerns and debunk the misinformation.

We can always hope I guess, but it's been my experience that when talking to those prejudiced against vaping the more detailed and granular the discussion gets, the more they tend to just mentally check out on you and stop listening in favor of their prejudice. They are not interested in facts, and their minds are made up.

Then give up and stop trying to educate people, I guess.

It really depends on who you find yourself talking to. Someone who had just "heard" that vaping is worse than smoking and hasn't adopted a hard opinion can be talked to and reasoned with. Someone just plain hates vaping for reasons of their own, or because to them it "looks" like smoking, isn't going to listen. At least that's been my experience.

So I had my regular checkup at the VA yesterday. When the doc asked me about any changes since my last visit six months ago, I told her I had quit smoking by switching to vaping. She then immediately chimed in with "popcorn lung" and that ecigs have also been linked to pulmonary fibrosis.

Anybody got some decent links for counter arguments?

Linked to pulmonary fibrosis?
Could always ask your doctor for a study showing said link, that's not 100% anecdotal.
That'll shut em up.

I may have to request a new doc. However, apart from the attitude about vaping, I actually like this one. She actually takes some other health issues I have (chonic pain in my back and hip that affects my walking) seriously as opposed to my previous doc who always gave me a "suck it up and drive on" attitude.

I understand trust me, I have had the same Drs., I have back problems also, I walk with a cane and a walker at time (not at the same time lol) I have a wonderful doctor now she is wonderful, and she understands vaping. the only thing she wanted was for me to move to 0nic, and as of the first that's what I've been doing. talk to her maybe she'll listen.

Nicotine is NOT a carcinogen, and is no more harmful than caffeine. Has she given a reason she wants you to go zero nic? Sounds to me like she's bought into some propaganda.

Tell doc to research the Public Health England's findings that vaping is 95% safer and ask for an explanation as to why smokers don't contract popcorn lung given the substantially higher levels of the suspected causative substances.
I had an infographic about that study at one point. I'll have to try and find it again.

Best thing about advice is you don't have to take it. I don't believe there is anything wrong with a Dr. voicing their concerns about vaping. I think an open dialog on anything concerning your health is a positive thing. (Of course this doesn't mean she is right, and just saying "popcorn lung" with zero facts is a bit misguided IMO)

doctors are just as susceptible to propaganda and misinformation as anyone else.they believe what they are told by companies and organizations with out researching the facts themselves. maybe you should have asked her if you would be better off going back to smoking

I think it's important to keep in mind that doctors are just as human as the rest of us, and just as prone to unreasoned prejudice, about anything. Just because she's a doctor doesn't mean she researched her opinions and arrived at a reasoned and rational conclusion based on the facts.

I really think he should. It's clear this doc's cup is already full, of the wrong stuff, and she's not going to listen. I deal with that mindset all the time at work, and once they take that position there's nothing you can tell them.
some people know "the truth" and do not want to be confused by facts:lol: . when weird al said " dare to be stupid" they embraced that philosophy
