Just like the title says, she wants to buy me a birthday present for my rapidly approaching 30th:party:8-o We've both recently gotten into vaping and while she's just fine with our eVod kits I'd like to step up my game as bit. As such she has said that for my birthday she would get me a new mod setup. I'm looking for suggestions/recommendations. I've looked at many different things and am trying to narrow things down. I really love the look of The Spire but I've read that it's nearly the same thing as a Sigelei/Smoktech Zmax. I like the Vamo but that b@#$^*( looks huge. She's not quite willing to shell out the grip to get me Provari. I'd love a tube mod with a dna 20 or 30 but, let's face it, that shyza will not be happening. Need recommendations for a tank system as well. Maybe the Nautilus or Aerotank? Let me know guys...

Hi valan and welcome to the forum. And Happy Early Birthday!

I have a Sigelei Zmax stainless steel and I like it a lot. It may not be as high quality as the ProVari, but it's been working great for me for almost a year--without issues. It comes with a nice OLED display, variable power (in addition to vv) and a dual 510/eGo connection. I have a mini with a 18490 extension. You (she :))can get a regular size or a telescopic version--depending on your needs. I run in the RMS mode and it's quite smooth, albeit a bit noisier than my ProVari. I don't recommend the Smoktech version, though.

My favorite tanks are ProTank 2--if you like single coils (I like it even better with the Aero tank airflow controller) and Aerotank (dual coils). I never got the Nautilus because it's just way too big for me. Kanger is releasing a new version of their Aerotank (Aero Mega and Mini); Phil Busardo reviewed them recently and he seems to like them.

And, of course, there are the rebuildables... But the real ones are very expensive and I don't know enough about the clones to recommend one. And they require some knowledge and skill with building coils and such--not rocket science, but not recommended for the new users, either.

Good luck!

Think outside the tube box, so to speak? Have you considered the MVP 2.0?

You're right about the VAMO. In 18650 mode with something like a tank or clearo on top of it - it's huge. It's also top heavy and easy to get away from you and roll and crash to the floor. They do perform well, but really push the round tooby design to it's limits. If you do go there only get the stainless steel. The chrome finishes on a VAMO start to wear through in a matter of weeks.

Another neat option - about half the price of a ProThingy - is the eVic. It's a good inch shorter than a VAMO. Great display that shows you everything at a glance - volts, watts, remaining battery power, device resistance. Best thing about it - that no other APV has - the firmware is upgradeable.

I had looked at the eVic. I had ruled it out but maybe I need a second look. Just don't really care for box mods. Might have to visit a nearby vape shop and see how they feel though. There are just sooooo many choices......

On vaper joe, there are testing a new evic, with screen shot of 30 watts.....so I would wait.

Update...

My wife has found a VERY good deal on a Vision X.gun kit from a private seller. Completely tricked out with hypertanks and drip tips. She thinks I would like it but it seems to be a rather limited mod in what it can do. I've been looking into the new Sigelei 20w. If i go that route it will cost her twice as much. The 20w has more options in what it can do. The X.gun might be better for a new vaper.

What do?
