...because it sure hasn't happened for me, as of yet.

Not wanting to jump right in with big bottles of juice that I may or may not like, I've been sticking mainly with <10mL bottles just to try a crapton of flavors. Then yesterday I got the bright idea to create a spreadsheet to keep track of all my liquid - where I got them, the PG/VG/nic amounts, what I like/don't like about the taste, what they mix well together with... figured I'd keep track of the price as well, in case I wanted to decide if the taste of some of the more expensive ones were worth the extra $$.

They, hey! why not, let's make another tab to keep track of the hardware, too. I've ordered a good bit of onesie-twosie things lately (cartos, atomizers, clearomizers) in different resistances, with the idea of trying each to figure out what I like. So a spreadsheet made sense - lets me record the price, ohms, vendors (and their good/bad cust. service), what juice seems to work the best in each one, etc. Add in the original cost of the start-up kit, chargers, pass-thru battery, blah blah blah...

One month in to this, and I've spent around 3x what I would have on cigarettes.

So, tell me - at what point did you start saving money by switching from analogs to vaping?

It took me about a month to settle on hardware. At that point it was the hunt for my juices. I have recently settled into a juice vendor I love and have found the flavors I keep in stock at home. So, after 5 months I can stop hunting and start saving.

Everyone will breakeven at different times though. It depends on how quickly you find that right mix of hardware and juice that suits you.

Started saving from day one, but then I smoked a lot. I got some money for Christmas which I immediately spent on vaping gear. Unfortunately half of that was trash, but better it was "free" money rather than out of my budget.

All told I've probably spent a little over $500.00 since September on vaping; I used to spend nearly $300.00 a month smoking. Right now I have enough juice and hardware to last until the end of January, if I don't mind vaping juice I don't much care for. I'm probably going to grab a couple more atomizers and some menthol next paycheck and be done for a good while.

I am not in it for the money. I like vaping and colecting Mods trying new accessories ect.... But I would think if a person was to settle with 2 or 3 mods then in consumables probably 50$ a month is average youed save money sooner or later.

Also it seems to me the industry is not geared to saving you money. Even though they advertise as much. Lots of worthless money grabbers out there. When we first start we look for convince and we soon learn what looks easy is mostly poor preforming. So if a person were smart enough to do lots of research and bought quality and durability and reliability over cheap they'd probably spend more up front but save lots more in the long run.

So far I think Im breaking even. I just didn't go crazy ordering a bunch of different juices though. I try 3 new flavors a month and stick to them all month. I also have a Vision Spinner and a regular 650 mah ego battery. Add the cost of my cartos and my spending is about 60 dollars a month vs the 170 a month I was spending smoking.

Also even if you don't break even at first the way you feel and smell and with me the way my car stays so much cleaner is worth it even if it does cost a little bit more. If the price of cigs went up would that have stopped you from smoking or would you have paid the extra price?

Oh - let me add that even if I never saved money, I'd still choose vaping over the flaming stinky things. Not even a question there. The decreased health risks and the (non)smell of quitting analogs have made any money spent well worth it.

Wut?? People are supposed to save money? That's cool!! I'll be looking to see when that starts to happen. I'm coming up on 2 years, next month...

Yeah....I am admittedly a gadget lover. Always have been. I can see this becoming an issue with vaping, LOL.

I got my first ecig kit on Aug 11. In five months I have spent every dime of my $200 a month that I used to spend on cigs to buy vape gear and juices and DIY materials but.... it looks like I am set for this month and officially saving some cash:)

However, I am seriously considering buying a Provari and I am saving up for it! I am so ready not to spend a dime for a month or two or three.

Don't hate me because I said the P word, peeps. The Provari just looks like a good solid unit. When I get closer to buying I'll start a thread on what should I buy a Provari or ????:)

I am probably a little bit ahead at the six month mark, but it really is not about saving money for me. It is a much better habit to have. That is enough for me. If you are truly dedicated to saving money, you can put yourself on a budget and make sure you do. After a couple of months getting your hardware, it is very doable to save some dough.

It is difficult to pin down the exact time when I started to save money by vaping as opposed to smoking.

I began vaping in November of 2011 with a first month investment of $150. This investment bought me three E-Power 14650 APVs, battery chargers, extra batteries, cartos and a small selection of juices. I wanted the two extra E-Power 14650s as back-up units although I haven't needed to use them as of this date.

I didn't quit a 35-year 1.5 pack a day habit overnight. I made a gradual transition to vaping gradually replacing each cigarette one by one with vaping. After five months of smoking and vaping together I had my last cigarette in April of 2012.

Before I quit smoking I spent $250 a month for cigarettes.

Expense summary:

Month 1: $150
Months 2-5: $35 per month for cartos and pre-mixed juice and other stuff.
Months 6 to present: $20 per month for DIY juice and other stuff.

Haha! Save money? I'm tracking mine - a year in, and I'm still a little over $300 in the hole. (I did get the Provari, though.) :) However, I will say that NOW I'm set up for a while. I'd sat that in another couple of months, I will FINALLY be in the black. And once I get to about $150 in the black, I'm going to get a Provape-1. :)

I have a Provari and a Provape, and the two look really good together.
