So where all can there be a short in the GGTS.

I have been getting a hot button and unless all 7 of my new attys are shorted, as well as my old ones, it's not there. All the atty's are 1.5's and the batteries are mixes of different protected and unprotected 18650's as well as the same results using a MAP DCT and 3v batts. The only thing i haven't taken apart and cleaned was the button itself as it's still springy so i doubt a collapse, and I can't figure out how to take it apart completely.

Hey Skuggi, is it possible you are over tightening? How did this come about, has it been like this from day 1? Give us as much info as possible, will help track it down.

Have you cleaned the button post and axis? Also, you may need to take your switch apart and clean the internal spring... Even though it's still springy, it may be crudded up with dirt causing a poor connection. There are a couple threads that describe how to take the button apart. I just use two pair of needle nose pliers being careful not to scratch anything, but I believe I've read that you can use two different sized socket wrenches.

i tighten till it's snug, it could have been from day one, as I don't feel as much in my hands but noticed it getting really hot a few times and figured it was a fluke. But i've been testing putting it up to cheek and it's not so much if i've just taken a hit but if i've been taking multiples its getting pretty warm to hot as in I am feeling it on my finger and my GF was like "Ouch" lol. It's still hitting like a champ so it's fine with me, i just want to nip it before it starts affecting anything else like my batteries or atty's.

Checked the voltage and it's fine for each of the batteries I put in when firing. Doing a closer inspection the bottom tube piece does have a little bit of a wobble to it, but that's always been like that and I'm assuming since it's a screw piece thats normal. Either way that wouldn't affect a short. It's also not consistent when I posted this it had been doing it. I put it down and was hitting another flavor in my reo for a bit, I'm taking some hits from the GG now and it's fine even after some hits...

I've cleaned the post and the button, I have the common black spot now problem but only slightly, i've cleaned it and gotten all but a small spot away. I guess I'm gonna have to try and look up a youtube and get this whole button apart then if crud can get in there, then that definitely could be it just a little something in there making contact at random would do it.

Crud on the internal parts of the switch = Resistance and Resistance = Heat.

If your GGTS is an SS then you need a 10mm or 11mm (Mine is 11mm) socket for the outside of the button and a 5mm for the inside.

EDIT: I use either a Pencil Eraser (light cleaning) or an Ink Eraser (heavy cleaning) on internal parts

Once it's apart, I would clean everything and make sure the internal spring isn't dirty. I've read that sometime lightly sanding the top and bottom of the spring with 1000 grit sandpaper helps if it is oxidized, although I've never sanded it myself.

I got it apart figured it out, took the assembled button out before to clean it and didn't know about the socket and yea, that led to my first beauty mark on the SSGGTS (Pretty soon we're gonna need annotation for GG Acronyms lol) nothing that i noticed fell out and the qtip is fairly clean. the only dirty part was the underside of the top of the button which cleaned right up. Here's some pics because I could be staring an issue right in the face and wouldn't know.

Even though it looks clean, I would still take the time to clean up the parts especially the spring seeing as you have it apart. Also, the "Black Spot" Ring on the bottom part is pretty evident in those pictures. I would clean them off with an Ink eraser or 1000 Grit if you can. Other than that, I do not see any problem with your switch from the pictures.

it's in the process of being cleaned right now, then going to get polished up a bit, had to break out the old smithing kit. All while my GGTS is sitting behind it mocking me with my fresh drip of bounty hunter in it that I can't take a hit from cause I'm cleaning it... lol.

Question though since you know what your looking at, is the ring around the black spot normal. I can't tell?

Some people get that and some don't and I do not know why. Just when you do get it, try and clean it off as much as you can.

well whatever it is it's on there good, I don't have any fine sandpaper left apparently gonna have to run to the hardware store tomorrow, everything else has been cleaned and polished. gonna give it a go and see how it does tonight.

It can also be your negative battery spring. I would make sure that is nice and clean while you are at it. As has been pointed out many times, if it is not the atty or batt then the issue is the springs.

Yep, usually springs, attys, or battys...but I did have an odd short recently-
probably doesn't apply, but easy to check-
Not long after getting my stealth, it started getting hot button with every atty/iAtty I had..
they all worked fine on the other gg's too..drove me nuts.
I eventually found that the black delrin sleeve that the post threads
into on the bottom cap wasn't screwed in quite enough.

It wouldn't tighten more either. I could see a few plastic bits sticking into
the threaded hole down by the bottom cap, they looked like
they would be pressed between the post and the bottom cap when I tightened it down..
Then I was able to unscrew the delrin piece (not so easy usually) and found quite a few more delrin shavings
wrapped in the threading along with a tiny bit of moisture trapped from cleaning.

No damage, just extra plastic lol - Could have been one or all of these things,
but I cleaned all the bits out, wiped it down and put it back together tight-
I haven't had a short on it since.
Jus' spitballing, but who knows..

well the short is still there somewhere, just had my spring collapse on me... gonna rip it all apart again and try and figure this out. But I honestly can't figure out what else it can be...

ok, well after completely disassembling, checking and reassembling, I realized I got a new atty and put it on here yesterday since i got a new flavor in. With the short problem I had before, I never thought of just checking the atty first... <idiot>

Was really scared there as I finally have a UFS coming too. Guess I'll still need to get a new spring.
