I went from the totally useless mall ecig to the eGo to the mini box mod. Glad that I have my eGos - good battery live, versatile and less "in your face" than my box mod when I'm out and about.

I'd recommend to anyone who is just starting and wants to check out the ecig before jumping to mods.

i heard that the ego once you drop it it quits is this true

Not in my case. I've dropped several eGos several times each with no operational damage at all. In fact, I've had two that fell from my shirt pocket into salt water at our local boat ramp that I had to wipe off, dry and clean with no consequences.

Now you've heard the true 'otherwise'.

So after I had browsed around and finally got my PV, I had come across several posts pushing the ego. Due to the consistant ego reccomendations I decided to go with something else, since it seems everyone else has one seemingly.

I have to admit, this comment is still is a bit of a mind boggle at first.

I started with the Njoy RN4081, which is cig sized. That lasted about two weeks before I ordered an eGo from Liberty Flights, after reading all the positive stuff on here. I like all the options for it, since it has 510 threading. I guess I also have a Riva 510, because I have a couple of the 3.7V batteries. I suppose I also have a SmokTech, because I have a couple of their big batteries. Where did my Joye eGo wander off to? I also have Joye batteries, so I still have the Joye eGo.

I have a 5V pass through that I use from time to time. I'd use it more often, but I've been using the emdcc cartos, and find they get very hot at 5V.

To add to the OP's options, if I was going to consider the eGo, I would suggest a better alternative would be the E-Power. Same category PV as the eGo/Riva, but instead of paying $13-$20 for a battery, the E-Power batteries only cost $4-$5, are non-proprietary and last 5 times longer (lifetime).

Electronic Cigarette - Starter Kits - E-Power

I am trying to love my epowers, I have three (2 dif sizes), but alas they are in a velveeta box and Im back to Riva for now! My hand gets a cramp (I know, put the darned thing down once in awhile!!)! It HAS to be my imagination that I get a better vape from my Rivas, but no matter as long as Im happy! I have 4, one still in a package and I toggle the other three. When they are kaput, i'll re-evalute!!

The eGo/Riva is probably the most popular big bat around and it isn't all that big. I honestly don't understand caring about how it looks. I'll choose function over form every time. However, I have learned that there are people that don't think like I do. IMO you should skip the eGo and go to a generic battery device like an epower or a roughstack. However, it's not that critical a decision starting out in most cases.

The only case where I'd tell you to really think long and hard before going with a mini bat is when it's a serious expenditure for you and you won't have the money to get anything else in a few weeks.

I think that people have all sorts of different expectations of vaping, just as they did for smoking. I was the one who smoked a cig, put it out halfway, and lit it up again - because I wanted the harsh throat hit. My sister hated the harsh hit; she put cigs out halfway when they started to warm up too much and she never re-lit them. (She eventually quit cold turkey.)

My love of the KR808D-1 with Wow cartos stems from the fact that they replicate the harsh, hot throat hit that I loved when I smoked. My sister would have hated my ecig for precisely that reason. I suspect that she would have preferred the lower-voltage Ego because she loved a mild flavor and throat hit. Some vapers cannot tolerate all-PG or mostly PG juices because they are harsh. I cannot tolerate high-VG juices because they are simply annoying; they don't do anything for me.

I don't think that enough attention is given to the reasons why vapers prefer one type of ecig over another. It really has a lot to do with how they smoked and how well they can replicate the experience, at least in the beginning.

I think that being biased about something that someone has had a favourable experience with is the human condition in full effect :) I guess the Ego has become as synonymous with vaping as Ipod is to MP3, or Hoover is to vacuuming. That's been helped along by the very clever re-badging Joye have done for vendors.

I have a Tornado T which I really enjoy using, it's tremendously convenient, easy to maintain, and it does the job I need it to do day to day. However, being an incurable hobbyist, there's no doubt I'll be checking out other PVs and different ways of vaping beyond standard voltages, tanks etc. I'm definitely going to end up with a drawer full of mods within a year of my vaping rebirth.

No need to limit experience is there?

When it comes to performance, you can't beat a variable volt PV with "regulated boost circuit" technology. The ultimate in consistency with no drop off in performance due to battery drain.

I certainly agree with you. I do believe with go with what you know, however my whole thing initially was I wanted more explanation as to why and have everything broken down as the whys and why nots. There have been a few people who replied back with less than friendly and slightly defensive comments, but as far as everyone else who has given detailed descriptions and reasonings and experiences...thats what I am here for and thats how I am going to learn.

Experience is everything, some are good and some are bad. So far my experience is good with what I have, and I did in face try out my friend's Joye eGo today. It was alright, I still think I like my 808 better but maybe if I tried a different brand with different batteries etc. I might like it more. It just wasn't really for me. I was looking at the Tornado today after going through all 7 pages in this thread again. I just got all of my stuff and right now I am researching, not trying to drop more money after I just got something that I like as of right now. The Tornado is on my list though!!!

Sounds good to me. Christmas isn't far away. If I agree to the wife getting her kitten, I think she can probably agree to me putting in an order for a rolls royce PV. So much choice though...

I read all of the posts before I got my PV. I didn't make an account here until after I got my PV in. I was just going off of reading for about a week and a half through the forums. Long story I guess.

oh...ok, guess it's just the way it was worded that confused me. anyway, my experience is similar to many others: even though i asked for opinions and the ego was suggested by many, i went ahead and ordered a 510 because i wanted the analog feel...when it arrived, before the day was over, i'd already placed an order for an ego-t -- realizing that being a slave to a battery charger wasn't for me (i'm extremely absent-minded to boot, so, i'd often forget to put one on the charger while vaping the other -- not a fun outcome).

btw, before the end of the day my ego-t arrived, i placed *another* order....as i HATED the ego-t!! (severely muted flavor, dry hits, leaky tanks, etc)...however, i LOVED the 1000mah batteries, so, i simply ordered some LR cartomizers -- pretty close to VAPING NIRVANA!!

This sounds almost exactly like me, except it's an 808 instead of a 510. Took two days to get the ego (all of yesterday, lol, and I sound like I know enough to have a real opinion on the matter.... rofl. I love this community.)

Yeah, didn't word the first post the way I meant to so I think a few people didn't appreciate it so much. I am still doing research on what I would get if I get anything else, which I am sure that I will within a few weeks/months. I am a highly compulsive shopper, I only switched to vaping for health benefits as opposed to saving money(though its a nice perk). I wasn't really intending collecting and making a hobby out of vaping, but it seems like it just happens that way. Guess I need to brace myself for it and get a few storage containers.

I think it's just because there's over 9000 things to try and ways to do it. I don't want to be a high dollar hobbyist, either, and I sure hope I'll stay happy with the two I've got now. I'd like to save money eventually, too, and if I keep up this pace, that's never gonna happen!

I think for most people this is what happens. You have to take into count that this really is a new thing and it will evolve, next year at this time there will be newer better (hopefully) products.
