Soldering iron recs

Well, I dropped my Hammond box (again) at work and the sled broke in half. I thought, no big deal... I've got a couple spares at home and will pop a new one in after i get home from work.

Not so much. My 548th harbor freight special this year died and I'm tired of exchanging a POS for another POS.

What do you guys recommend for $100 or less?

Not an experienced solderer but my research has shown the Hakko FX-888 to be universally recommended. Plan to purchase one myself at some point.

XYtronics makes good soldering stations for ~100 bucks. I use one professionally for 5+ years now and it's still going strong. Last I looked, Jameco sells them and probably available on FleaBay.....

Thanks for the recommendations. I ended up finding what I hope is a good deal on a Weller WES51. We'll find out, I s'pose.
