Apparently the smaller models are not able to cut SS although they are fine with plastics and aluminum...I could be wrong...I actually asked about the 7x10 a while back...on the other hand the Taag specifically says it CAN cut SS

I don't have a lathe(yet...) but i did some research on the subject recently. From what i found on the web the main problem with SS(and there are many kinds of SS) is not the size or power of the machine but the cooling of the bit.To cut steel you need very hard bits(whas it carbide?) which are very fragile and sensitive to temperature changes, serious steel cutting machines use a refrigerating circuit that pours coolant on the bit continuously while cutting, this coolant is collected on a tray under the machine and goes back into the circuit. But as i said i don't have any hands-on experience with this...
I liked the Sherline lathe a lot, pricey but sexy...

The main problem is rigidity and play in the guides and bearings...you can probably still do SS but you would need to use a small surface area bit and take very shallow cuts. SS is a "gummy" metal so once the bit starts cutting..if there is any play the SS will start pulling it deeper in to the cut or chattering. Cooling can be done simply by applying a cutting oil while turning.

ive never used a mill or lathe, but ive used some pretty serious drill presses and band saws and ive never seen one with a refrigerant unit on it. they use a cutting fluid that just gets recirculated. they also have spray cans of cutting fluid, just keep it constantly wet. rapid tap can be used, even seen motor oil used for drilling before

Sorry,i didn't mean to say that the liquid was refrigerated. And yes, from what i've read the liquid is a cutting fluid which is basically some sort of oil.So what you are saying is what i tried to say... in my own confused and misinforming way hehehe!

In CNC lathes they use a water soluble cutting fluid....looks like milk...but on a manual machine you need oil to stick to the part.

Near da water ...
I have not read any reviews on the Taig or the HF model you posted. The lathe I want hehe is this one:

Video in action....

Dont think my wife will let me spend the $$ for it though :(
Dan

I picked up a Sherline at the beginning of this year, but due to illness haven't had much time to work with it yet (or time on ECF, for that matter!). Absolutely great equipment, tons of accessories, sometimes you can 'steal' one on eBay. I'm setting up CNC soon. Sherline Direct: WELCOME TO OUR ON-LINE WEBSTORE

Dan, if you were over here I'd loan you some time on it ...

Any ideas on how to store a full tank mod for storage so that it won't leak. A way to stop it up? If I leave mine on its side the juice works up to the cup, then down the air hole and out of the battery connector. How do I stop this.

We're mostly focused on Genisis attys here. Those guys over on the various CE2 threads are the professionals on leaking cups :)

Probably better luck here: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...kers-c-e2-r4-review-tips-info-help-video.html

poland, and the brassy lands of google
Fill Plugs installed. I did find I had a 1mm bit, but nothing to chuck it with so it had to be 1.5mm and as far from the coil as possible. I have no stock that small, so a very small piece of silicone carto nail is the plug, I might use wooden toothpick tip if that doesn't work.

The 1st one went well and has a small head to grab:

The 2nd one the hole broke through to the hole next to it but didn't damage the heat shrink tubing and doesn't have the head:

Retrofitting is a pain, but they sure are easier to fill :)

So, I should nonchalantly pull these each time before take-off and try to not lose the plugs? :D
