Some medical advice

Before I dispense the advice, you gotta sit through the story. I'm like the time share salesman on your free vacation ;)

So last week I got over a massive sinus infection. But my ears (which have caused me constant problems since birth) still hadn't drained. So today I went to my ear nose and throat doc. After the routine exam and cleaning (no more infection :) ) I told him that I have frequent sinus infections, and asked what he would suggest. He gave me a sample of a sinus rinse. Like a squeezy bottle version of that disturbing looking nettie pot.

Now on to the good part. I also informed him of my switch to e-cigarettes. (Got a big congratulations. Gotta love the informed doctors) I then told him that due to the nature of my job, I don't always have the time to stay hydrated and asked what he would recommend to quickly rehydrate my throat. He told me to use the sinus rinse! How lucky was that?!

One of the major upsides to being an RN is that doctors take a little more time with me to explain things in greater detail. So when I asked about the sinus rinse, he had some very interesting things to say. He told me that at the last sinus and throat medical conference he went to in Chicago, every single lecture either began or ended with the speaker touting the good things about this new sinus rinse.

Besides soothing the nose and sinuses and helping to prevent sinus infections, these rinses are the second best way to rehydrate dry mucous membranes, i.e. nose, mouth, and throat lining. (The best way is to drink enough water to not get dehydrated in the first place  )

SO... for those of you who have issues with vaping causing you a dry throat, or if you also have frequent sinus infections, it's the NeilMed Sinus Rinse. They have a pot too, but my doctor said the squeeze bottle was far easier to use and more effective. And make sure if you decide to try it to get the one with the blue rinse packets. They're isotonic and far safer. They can be found near the cold remedies. :)

But don't forget to drink water too ;)

Thank you for the info KrisBKream sir. :)

You betcha!

Thank you so much for the information Kris! I've often wondered about those sinus pots, but couldn't work out how to get over the fact that one is snorting liquid. :)

I felt the same way! Well... I still haven't tried it... It may be a squeeze bottle and not a pot, but it's still unnerving, even to a pro ;)

Very cool.Thanks!

I assume you probably already reached this conclusion, but it has to be said. Given your recent procedure, this recommendation is NOT for you, Keyzy. At least not without checking with your doctor. Tbh, I wouldn't even bother checking in your case, though. Surgeons almost always have aftercare down to an exact science. But you're welcome! Hope it was interesting at least

Thanks krisbkream! I have one of those. Sinuses have been driving me nuts! I forgot I had it and have been wondering what to do for mu sinuses. They aren't bad enough to go to the doc for. Do you know how offer you can use it daily?

Because the solution is isotonic, I don't believe there is technically a limit. However, I was advised to use mine once a day on most days. If I'm sick or my sinuses are otherwise screwed up, I was told 3 times a day. Any more than that, and I don't believe it would do much good. Without getting technical and super-disgusting, it's best to let the yuck build up a little before flushing it out or more yuck will just be produced. That was officially the least yucky way I could think of to say that :lol::vapor:

I'll try it. Can't hurt.

For anyone who has sinus issues, and has any interest, my ENT gave me a recipe for a DIY saline solution that I have used for years. Like most of ya'll, I never did get the hang of the neti pot, but those squeeze-type bulbs they use on babies works great. If anyone wants the recipe, just PM me and I'll send it. (I happen to have it digitized on my computer ;-)
