Bap, sounds even better with the slight aesthetic that when you vape your buttons are showing and someone is going to be tempted to reach out and change your wattage. : D

Moto, in April I did put one up on a smaller site and it got about 30 views and the site has now gone on hiatus. I've since changed my mind more or less. I'd rather keep it fun lol.

This isn't so much a WIP, more a collection of unused parts to get a general idea. the battery tube has to be a bit longer and getting the battery to be easily removable is still up in the air. I was thinking through the bottom but the V-in has to run down there too.

Very manly indeed. Sorry to hear about the cutout, does this mean the mod will be shorter though?

Well that piece of wood will be shorter, I'll just use it for a kick side by side.....that is if I ever get the mechs I ordered from FT

I will make a new body for the this mod.....plus I'm hoping to cheat and use the cnc turret punch at work to do the heavy lifting on the ss end pieces :D

Right on! The distance between the holes keeps it from being too manly. Is the wood section already shaped or will these serve as templates?

I did reply to your previous post, but failed to actually send it.... I doubt they could cut that thick, but with that sort of precision you could stack individual pieces and then laminate them, creating the ultimate plywood mod. Someone here tried this once, but quit after a few pieces as the cnc (not laser) was chipping the wood.

lol.....but I still need to counter bore the holes....so it will end up looking like 3D model pic.

Wouldn't laminating a bunch of pieces kind of muck of the grain look in the wood?

*Edit....The new wood section isn't done yet....so these will serve as templates....I have top pieces also with pilot hole centers for the cylinder bores.

Not if the individual pieces are already plywood. :) I've got a selection of end slices from various hardwoods I'm considering laminating first and going at manually. That, if it happens, will be next summer.

One thing about sanding that I forgot to mention. It is all to easy not to have a level, flat workpiece, rather one that has a hump in the middle and smaller ends. Clamping sandpaper under two fences on a flat table helps to correct this as does sanding sideways some, not just lengthwise.

I'm trying to visualize what you are describing with the fences, but I'm kind of failing.

I think if I was going to make a bunch of these I would spend the money to have a couple of hardened steel end plates made. Kind of like my ss end caps I use, but exact shape and as hard as they could be :D.

Fences like pieces of wood that pin down the edges of the sheet of sandpaper and are c-clamped in place. If they are a softwood, like pine or cedar then the hardwood is stronger than they are and does not get marred. Really you only need one at a time, but is nice to have the other edge of the sheet pinned down too.

Sorry but I haven't got a pic of the setup, too dusty for the camera. :)

OK, here is a mod that had a bit of trouble on both ends, but had a very curious grain on this particular cut. It is Koa and as you can see, lots of black marbling in the brown. From the stock I had one was cut this way and 3 others 'traditionally'.

After reshaping and oiling:

The finished mod:

In sunlight the grain is visible, in a lit room the sides are nearly black, notice that it stands up straight:

The ends have a shimmering amber to them, under artificial lighting also:

The upright stance comes from this:

Besides the groove in the top of the body, the grooves for the spine are cut quite a bit deeper, and their brass sleeves are a bit shorter, so there is a small copper accent at the top of each leg to match the copper on the bottom. In the event of a battery failure, the venting would likely come out the top of the mod, but would be deflected by the top brass plate. A slight compromise, but I didn't want to match the groove at the bottom of the mod. All in all I'm quite happy with it, and Koa is truly beautiful to work with. :)

asdaq, I love it! Beautiful creation my friend and I love how you think on your feet! Thanks for sharing!
