Thank you for sharing this. I think you reach the top on this kind of design, its a masterpiece from my point of view. Seems a lightweight (oh yes!) and of course powerful. Looking for something in between this and a traditional pipe, some Steampunkish like your brass mods...
Waiting for new design ideas,
Kind regards and good winter mood for you, sir

J80, that pipe looks just great! I had indeed not seen it before, where have you posted it? I really would like to see more of it. I'm flattered you used the switch too. My wife doesn't know the technical terms on the diagram too well in Russian, but I will ask a colleague I see on Tuesday who can say. Sadly, I only had German in school. Most of the parts I recognize though and have a Record valve (Italian though I think) in a mod somewhere. :)

I think the opposing force of those two magnets must be quite stiff, and do not need a safety lock mechanism to be pocket safe. I have two comparable sized magnets but only 1.6mm thick on a mod and it is quite secure.

I have two thoughts on how to do a pipe and the first quite resembles yours in shape with a 18350 in the bowl, a recessed magnetic switch that has "conservative" brass stylings, a booster pod in the wooden stem and a thin 12mm atty with hopefully a curved mouthpiece. Unfortunately I don't currently have a nice block of hardwood to make this from, I have 10+ drilled and shaped bodies in the style of those in this thread which is a slight difficulty....

The second would be an all brass corncob style pipe all in brass, with 3 or 4 spines, a brazed stem and the same innards as above, and with the "traditional" switch.

The first model would be an incognito "Hey, that is just a regular pipe", and the second would be all fun and who cares what it looks like.

Also, I was hoping slopes might elaborate on his latest super mini pipe too, before I carry on. :?:

Hmm.. Pipe itself was not of my design, it was converted from original pipe by our modder shpuvel, the name of his pipe - "Ebeast", battery 18350 without booster. Link which I know only in russian, sorry:
http://www.ecigtalk.ru/forum/f17/t16059.html
And here is the beggining, pics are quite understandable without any translation I hope
http://www.ecigtalk.ru/forum/f16/t14424.html

This part "Record 12" is a cartridge case, like this one:
http://ohota.clan.su/_fr/5/4442912.jpg
So I just convert this pipe to genezis atomiser and install magnets into the button instead of a spring )))
And the idea of a button was got from your mods, so you did not get any new info from a picture I post previously. Some parts from the chineese lighter, magnets and nothing special.

So good luck in your pipe constructing,
Cheers,
J80

J80, I finally had a chance to look thoroughly with the help of google translate, which is odd with Russian to say the least. From the scale in the pics I thought the 12 gauge was smaller when compared to the other parts. I've learned my lesson and won't try to guess what size the parts are LOL.

One thing that I've noticed is that if the bicycle valve tube is a bit longer, even by 2 or 3mm it helps to make sure the contact is better and reduces slop.

Also I'm onto my third supplier of bicycle valves, they tend to get tired of recycling requests somehow. This one seems friendlier and less frustrated. :)

Oh, this bicycle valve has its own history..
It was on Everest mountain once when my colleague was there, he likes dangerous adventures.
So the valve is a true Brass valve from the capital B :)
It's hard to find such a thing here, but I was lucky.
Sorry for puzzle with a picture, all comes to the shotgan cartridge size. Wiki: This metric is used in Russia as "caliber number": e.g., "shotgun of the twelve caliber." so you right. 12 gauge is the most common size.
---------------------------------------
You just need to have one USED cartridge on hand to understand the real sizes. USED because of capsule... It can be safely disarmed only with a shotgun or with a special kit. So to everybody who read this - be careful, do not try to use charged one. It can let to death or serious trauma.
----- end of disclaimer -------
Thanks for the tip with valve length. But there is one thing that made me bend a little bit the cartridge to insert valve (from battery side) - there is no much room in the pipe unfortunately. So the length can be increased only on top, where button is.

Cool to know the extensive history of a valve, mine all remain anonymous. Perhaps I should refer to them as "reclaimed" as it sounds more noble than recycled.

I like the interior side of the switch to be as minimal as possible too, as the length of the mod is smaller. On the outside this doesn't concern me as much and the length gets built up by including the finishing washer which also covers the magnet (or for longer put the magnet above the finishing washer). The slope of the washer adds a nice effect too. For even less footprint on the interior, sanding the inner valve nut down to about 2mm thickness from the original ~3.5mm helps too.

You mentioned the lightness of these mods too, and it may sound strange, but these are quite comfortable in a shirt pocket @18650 size, and the 18500 even is decent in a thin t-shirt pocket. They are not light enough however to be able to tell if the tank is empty or full by the weight in the hand.

Thanks much Mac, wood can be fun to work with but it also can have a mind of it's own and change on you and become an organic nightmare.

J80, I found that valve I was talking about. It is indeed a presta with a metal base and says record Italy on it:

Turns out I'm not using it lol.

Hey Ultimate, big thanks, the brass plates are easier than you think. They start as 1" brass strip (.060") which gets cut to length with a hacksaw. Then the holes are drilled, and once they line up right the outer edge gets shaped on a belt sander. Finer shaping is done with a large file, then a smaller file and the edges get cleaned up and polished with sandpaper with steps between 120grit and 2000/2500. Before I got a drill press and a belt sander, I did it with a hand drill and vise grips, and all the shaping with a ....... file instead of the sander. With the drill press it is easier to drill the strip before cutting to length, as the hole placement is critical to success.

With both methods a set can be made in the better part of an afternoon.

This is SICK!!! I came across this thread and was really impressed with the overall design and quality of your build. Since then, I have looked for this several times to take another peek, but I couldn't find it. Well.......FOUND IT!!!;) Beautiful work

Verrrrry nice there bap. And crash away! Your padauk has a nice reddish orange to it. I had a piece that was much browner but with the same black marbling. I honestly don't know if I got a mod finished from it or not. I'm quite sure I have a shell from it though. The DNA board is going to lay flat along the bottom?
