If any part if the coil is overheating it will turn black pretty quickly.
I took it apart, not sure if that is gunk on my coul of it has gone burnt on me, the cotton is not at all burnt though

.....thing as a stupid question.

So here goes nothing, I'm new to building my own coils, I first started because I was sick of buying pre built coils and burning through them at rapid pace. Became an expensive habit. So someone on ECF recommended that the Zephyrus tank was wonderful! And it is, I love it!

My question is, I'm using the RDA. I've got my wicking down pat and am building my dual coils to be around .4 OHMS (don't want to go any lower in an RDA due to being scared it will get to hot and not wick properly)

I'm using a pack of cotton I purchased at a local vape shop by YOUDE (the same brand that makes the Zephyrus) it is Japanese organic
- does the type of coils used affect the flavor?
Per say; I buy 100' of coil at one vape shop opposed to another can one reproduce better flavor? (Kanthol)

- does the brand of cotton make a difference in flavor?

*the reason I ask this is because if I vape anything over 28W I get burnt flavor and not good wicking.
- I've brought it into a vape shop and had the rep walk me through the wicking process to make sure I am doing it correct until I am comfortable doing so on my own (supervision kind of thing, he's not doing it for me, just watching me and critiquing me) he has a setup with a goblin v2 which RDA deck is extremely similar to the Zephyrus dual coil build just on a smaller scale. He is able to vape his at 60+ watts and get perfect wicking and AMAZING flavor.

***mind you I am not chasing giant clouds, my preference is decent clouds and great flavor.

I have watched multiple YouTube tutorials as well, they're not helping me..

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

The Zephyrus is a great tank with air flow that many drippers like in their Rebuildable Drip Atomizers ( RDA ) .
The Rebuildable Tank Atomizer ( RTA ) that came with the Zephyrus can be a bit tricky, pretty much so with the wicking part of it. To much wick through the coils as well as into the juice channels gets you dry hits. To little wicking and you get an e-liquid bath.
Ther is a happy medium, you just have to play with it a bit. And once you find the balancing act of the RTA, you'll love it.
Don't give up.... The payoff is a real good tasting and cloud making vape.

Flow = ability to handle wattage

Wicking must be correct in correct size coil and enclosure to continually feed coil at any given power level.
Liquid must be of a consistency that can flow readily through any given channeling and the wicking material
Material must be capable of quickly transferring liquid. Type, not Brand, is what matters.
Air Flow must be correct to assist in e-lquid transfer - negative pressure draws liquid

Proper coil material does matter, but not a restriction to one type:
Kanthal/Nichrome/etc. for Power modes
Ni200/Ti grade1/etc. for TC modes

Time + experience = getting it all to come together.

Best of luck!

I would also go up a guage or two so you can get a few more wraps in there.
The vape shop I went to was no help. Told the woman I would pay her and buy stuff from her to help me get this working in a timely matter and she treated my tank as a Guinny pig and played with it...... Needless to say it isn't working..... So here I am vape less for the next 5 hours ...

I will get 26 gage wire when I leave work in currently using 24.
And I'll do 2mm wraps...... Praying for the best over here

I've wicked it over 30 times myself and can't find that medium, invested over 5 hours into this tank, I love it when it works but at this point I am beyond frustrated

Next time I re-build ( coils & wicking ),,, I will post pictures and notes that I've found to get the Zephyrus working to your expectations.
