SP2 Question

Got my SP2 from ya, and I have a question...

Are the 801 carts always this difficult to pull out of the atomizer? Seriously man, I am having to bust a gut to get the carts out of the atty. This is unpleasant to say the least...

I'm used to the 510 where the carts came off easily. I'm having to pull and twist the 801 carts to finally get them loose. I'm not going to stick with the 801 atty on this if this is a common thing for 801s. The manual says "Don't overtighten the atty", but when you have to twist HARD in the opposite direction, you have no choice but to make the atty very tight on the batt.

Is this an 801 thing, or is this an issue with the fit and finish of the SP2?

I have had no problem at all with my SP2, in removing carts or placing the atomizer on. I would call McDonald-Webb they have great customer service and they can help you.

I'm not sure it's worth contacting them if it just needs a new atty... At least I can feel comfortable ordering other 801 attys and not having the same problem. (At least the 801 carts hold alot of juice.)

I have to say that I am extremely disappointed with the fit and finish of the SP2. The battery holder came with scratches in the finish, the threads are sticky on any part that screws in and makes you feel like it'll seize up easily, even with the batteries they supply the unit doesn't screw together all the way... After a day of use the aluminum is oxidizing and turning black.

Well, the battery is a battery and it works... I guess I can call around about anodizing the aluminum and having the threads cleaned up, replace the atty... Wish I had gone with the Mako.

[FONT="]Apply some noalox (IDEAL INDUSTRIES, INC. - Noalox® Anti-Oxidant Compound) The stuff is made to make the aluminum not seize up etc. i became dissappointed with the sp2 also and have since discontinued it once the MAKO arrived from england. and i couldnt be happier with it

Honestly, it looks like this unit has not been anodized and sealed like it should be. Aluminum is a porous metal unless it is anodized.

Now, does that mean that McWebb doesn't anodize any of them, or does it mean that this one escaped the factory without good QA? And anodizing is easy! You can do it at home. Anyone with the ability to machine the piece should have the wherewithal to anodize it.

I've sent a very polite e-mail to McWebb asking about the issues I've pointed out, and we'll see where it goes from there.

The bright side is that none of these issues is a deal breaker... I can anodize the piece myself, and will at least get to put the color of my choice on it. The crappy 801 has been replaced by my trusty 510 atty and an adapter. The threads will need to be cleaned up after the anodizing anyway. Accounting for my valuable time, we're talking about $30-$60 to "fix" what's wrong with this. Luckily I got a good deal on it from ya, and at the end of the day it's going to cost about the same as other mods... But with no warranty.

Really though, no one buys a new car and expects to have to replace the muffler before they drive it. We'll see how contacting the company goes...

no, none of the sp2's were anodized and i dont believe they have plans to do so. Thats why im sticking with the mako.. they are anodized like they should be

I spoke to James at McDonald Webb, and he couldn't have been any nicer.

They're replacing the unit for me and throwing in some goodies for my trouble.

Meh, cosmetic issues aside, it works and the price was right.
