Speak to me of clearos...

Hello! I love my e-cig! (A couple of cheap basic ego batterie and Vision V2 long wick clearomizers from Vape Escape, plus a couple of non-brand identical-looking clearos that I bought at the local sundry/baccy shop.)

My ONLY issue is a bit of leaky-ness and sputtering from the clearos. One of them (I am pretty sure it's one of the Vison V2's) has even squirted me in the eye with juice. I managed to clean it out so that it's not sputtering up, but there remains a slight sense of leakiness. And the mouthpieces can range from so tight as to be a struggle to remove to being so loose as to almost fall off.

I've also got a lovely Kanger Square 1 set-up. That thing is just perfect. The clearo and mouthpiece seem tight as a drum. However, I know replacement parts will always be harder to source because it's neither 510 or ego compatible. (It's a pity, because it's just lovely.)

So, I'm curious to know where to start looking for new eGo-type clearos. Cost is always a factor for me - it's probably the second biggest reason for me to vape - so while I'm willing to consider pyrex (I assume it would have longer life), I'd want affordable coils.

Hello Katy,

Hope the arm is healing nicely. I'm new at this, so keep in mind that those at it longer will know more.

I began with pen style batteries and throwaway cartomizers. Then I read a lot in these forums. Because I know my taste buds are changing as I get farther and farther away from cigarettes, I wanted to be able to try any juice without worrying about cracking and leaking devices.

I bought some eGo batteries, then a Vision Spinner. I topped them with Protank IIs. Fine vapor, inexpensive rebuildable or replaceable heating coils... but... they are heavy and bulky. That's no problem at home, but less comfortable walking around in the fields or town.

I bought a couple of Protank II Minis, and—Bob's your uncle—I have what I need. The vape is as good or better than the bigger protank, they are light weight, and I can swap a coil in about half a minute. If you hunt around for a good supplier, you can get coils in 5-packs for about a quid or less each. I've used 1.8, 2.2, and 2.5 oHm coils, and all of them are fine with the variable voltage spinner or eGo Twist clones I use. I prefer the 2.2, but that's just a personal preference.

Check the UK forum for suggestions about good sources for coils.

I love the smoktech aro pyrex clearos. They are about half the price of the kangor mini 2's. The coils are not expensive either. With them being bottom coil's its easier to replace the coils without having to empty all the ejuice out. I'm in the process of switching all of my ce5s over to these. You also get a great hit off of them.

So far I like it too. I think leaking will be less of an issue with these. Draw is a little bit airy though so i want to fill in two of the three air holes. i don't know what to fill them with though. Glue? Silicone? no idea.

I read somewhere on the forums here and I can't remember, but it was mentioned to break a tip off of a toothpick into the hole

All clearos leak, fact of life. This can be minimized, though, and I recommend the many good YouTube videos on your specific device(s) to learn about maintenance, clearing, clearning, and rebuilding coils.

The Protank II is currently the best clearo on the market, imho. The new universal Kanger unit, bottom coil, but top filling, looks even better, but I haven't gotten one yet. The evod is an excellent little topper, also a Kanger, and also uses the same coil/heads.

After many months of using evods and Protanks/Davide's, I went full time to carto tanks, and they don't leak, but, like clearos, there's a learning curve. Again, suggest the many YouTube videos. Best instruction out there, imho.

Clearos flood....THEN LEAK. The key is to catch the flooding, clear and clean, before leaking. The reason they flood is due to many factors including wick material, coil temperature, atmospheric pressure and temperature, pressure in the device, juice type, PG/VG ratio, vape methodology, removal of flavor wicks (a no-no unless you are at 100% VG, otherwise don't do it), amount of liquid in the tank, etc. All of these issues can be mitigated, and the YouTube videos do a good job explaining all about these issues. Phil Busardo, Grimm Greene, among others, are all good to watch. Because I vape heavy (and not the recommended way) with very strong, sweet, dark juice, I tend to carbonize and caramelize my wicks fairly quickly. Some people say there wicks last for two weeks or more. Mine last about two or three days tops, and that's after cleaning and dry burning. It's just my juice, my coil temperature, and my vape technique. I don't care, I like how I do it, but it does kill my coils...fast. Also, to mitigate the expense of coil replacement, I learned to recoil all of the rebuildables along the way, and I can produce a month's worth in under an hour at about a nickel a piece....so, no big deal. Live and learn. Vape and learn. Good luck, welcome to the Forum, Power up and Vape On!

Hello! I'm back! I think my problem was user error... I didn't have the drip tip in securely enough on a couple of them.

I am currently trying out evods and Kanger T3's. I don't care much for tehevod because of the tiny windows and (this is dumb) the colour choices. Both of them are awful airy. If I had a toothpick, I'd use it. In the meantime., I'm covering with my finger. Would the mini protank II have the same issue?

Coming from the CE type of clearos, I did find that the mini protank 2 felt a bit airy.. covering with my finger worked but was a hassle. The toothpick trick fixed that. I later ran across a thread where people were replacing the silica on the Kanger replacement heads with cotton... tried it and loved it!! The increased vapor production led me to remove the toothpick bits.

On another note, im surprised no one mentioned the Inn
oken iClear line of clearos. Dual coil, fills like any other ce type of clearo, better tasting.. at least IMHO.
