All of a sudden my joye 510 passthrough wouldnt work untill i hit and released the button 2 or 3 times. Then i noticed the wires fraying and opening right at the tip of the cig where the wire goes inside. I popped off the cap, undid the wire knot inside, burned the green junk off the wires on both sides, spliced back together, and Nothing. Then i tried removing the battery and splicing a direct wire to the usb, and still Nothing. What step am i missing here? It seems simple enough of a thing to fix. Could i have burned up the switch? If the unit is junk now, can i still use it to charge the blue battery even tho the cigarette part is cut off? Thanks for any help.

There are more electronics in the PT than just the batt terminals and the wire. If you really open the batt box, you will see a whole circuit board with resisters and capacitors. You likely fried a resistor and that's why is died. All of those are needed, unfortunately. It might still charge the batt, but you will need to check the batt with a multimeter to see if it is charging. The 10440 is fully charged at 3.7-4.2 V, best at the 4.2V end. Those PTs last a month if you are lucky, but they are cheap. My guess is the unit is dead, but you might get lucky with the charging part. It likely won't power an atty again. :(

PTs are generally problematic over time, since they draw a lot of current, and the components are rated for it, but a little more can fry them. When I was using batt-box PTs I always ordered 2 at once. Went through 5 of them overall. Sometimes its not the internals that fry, but the USB port or worse the motherboard. 8-o Its a nice and convenient technology, but its plagued with fry-outs. Because of this, and maybe you do this, but I always use an AC/USB converter, rather than a USB hub or plugged directly into a computer. Most hub or computer USB ports are not rated for the 2 amps that is really needed for PTs.
