I flat-out love these things except for all the times I hate 'em. Has anyone figured out a simple way to get the wicks back through the holes after cleaning the coil head? I've tried wrapping the tips with foil, as suggested in another thread, but it's not as easy to do as it seems like it should be - at least not for me. It's almost a given that I'm not doing it right (whatever "it" may be at any given time), but I'm finding it to be a huge PITA to wrap the wicks tight enough with a piece of foil that's small enough to get them back through the holes. And even when I manage to do that, the wicks get shredded in the process. There must be an easier way. Anybody have some tips? Anybody rebuilding these yet? (Wally?)

And then there's the center post issue - at least I think it's a center post issue. I have two, and every time I change the heads, I get an "E8" on the Provari. I'm wondering if, in the process of screwing the top plate back down, I'm torquing the center post or pushing it down or something. And neither one will connect on my Lavatube (V1) without an adapter. Anybody else having similar issues, maybe an easy fix? All advice and speculation welcome and appreciated. These are major irritants to me, but if they can be fixed, then Kanthal-schmanthal, mesh-schmesh.

Can you clean the coil head with out removing the wicks from the holes? Empty the tank and go from there...
Only time I insert a wick is when it it new sorry I can't help :(...
What is an :E8" error on the Provari, please?
From the manual - "E8 – Converter has detected a fault" Whatever that means. I've gotten both E1 and E8 errors with my Splitfires. One time I fired it while I was looking at it, and noticed a spark come off the coil. It was touching the metal around the head. Pushed the coil over a bit and the problem was corrected. I still get the errors with some of my others and it seems to happen when I've screwed them down too tight.

I concur with Adrena. The only time I have to deal with getting the wicks through the holes is when I'm installing a new head with the plastic still on the ends (a bit of a pain still, but a little juice around the ends and a pair of tweezers to pull it through make it do-able). I clean them by taking off the whole top portion with the head attached and soak them, then I dry burn the gunk off.

old SplitFire thread-lot's of info here

A little SplitFire FYI.
Put a new head on a SplitFire today. Ohms read 2.4 on ProVari. Vaped it for about 5 minutes and it went to LO Ohms. Upon unscrewing the top and pushing the fire button I could see a slight arc between one side of the coil and the cup. It shifted a bit on its own. Used a pair of tweezers and moved it away from the offending cup side and all is back to normal. Wanted to throw this out there in case you think you have a bad head. Don't be too quick to toss it. It may need to be nudged over if it's just shorting on the cup.
Vape on.

I never remove my heads for cleaning. Just rinse em attached to the baseplate.
When I do replace em I screw the head on tight. Wet the tips ith a bit of unflavored liquid, twist them to a point gently, grab the wick about 3/8" from the end with tweezers and slowly guide the tips through the baseplate till they show and then pull the rest down from below. They are a pain but well worth it to me..

No rebuilding yet. Have not had any need. THese have been lasting many many many tanks with occassional cleanings.

Thanks for the info, folks - now I at least know how to respond to an E8 (although I don't understand what the manual says, either - I interpret all error codes as "Stop it.")

Since you were all kind enough to respond, I feel compelled to make a confession: "cleaning the heads" is actually a euphemism for "putting the heads on upside-down." So far, I'm 4 for 4. But c'mon, the top of the top plate really looks like it should be the bottom of the top plate, right?

[Sigh] It's exhausting being me. Sometimes, it takes all day.
