Well, lubrication is one thing apart from the conductivity. You really wouldn't be lubricating the spring. You do, however, lubricate the screw threads. It really does make the thing screw on really smoothly. As far as the conductivity is concerned, with the V1, since the circuit apparently goes through the whole thing, body included, if you make the parts all conduct more electricity they'll work better. I don't know about other people and I can't really say it matters with the spring, but I have occasionally put just a tad of Noalox on the spring, at least where it touches the batteries. I can't say how much gain you'd get from Noalox on the spring, but I can say that I think it does boost performance if used on the screw threads, etc. The biggest benefit for me was on the V2 because of how the switch works, but I know we're not talking about that.
