So a couple weeks ago the spring in the button assembly finally gave out. A dying atty shorted the batteries, causing the spring to collapse. Upon stretching it slowly back to size, it snapped. F.
I toyed with ideas after failing to find a replacement online (I mean, the spring lasted a year and a half...I never expected it to go, so it was the one thing I didn't have available).
The spring from a ballpoint pen was my girlfriend's idea.
Simply bend the spring over on itself, insert the ends into the grooves where the original spring was and solder in place. You may have to clip the spring to a good length before soldering. Otherwise, when the unit is closed, it may flex and touch the side of the XHaler and short the batteries.
Photos attached. I don't know that this is ideal, but I've had zero complications since securing it in place, and it was my only option in a pinch. It bends a little over time, but looking up from the bottom, there is no way it will touch the battery housing and short.
