Well gentlemen... With lots of dedication, lots of elbow grease, several failed attempts, and lots of frustration....

I present to you the Dirty Monkey Fuse Block. Fixed position, swappable fuses.

I have added brass shim to my firing pin... That + this fuse block on a 1Ω coil yielded the following:

fresh battery charge @ 4.22v
Reo under load: 4.03v

SUCCESS vapes oh so sweet!

help a bro out here?

my Grand seems to have turned into a batt killer; or not.

After a few months of sub ohms RM2 (.6 to .8 Ohms) I just replaced the spring after a few days of misfires, and it still sputters, in fact it takes a fresh IMR AW down to sub 1v. in no time....

is this predictable with a stock Grand?

Am i out of the sub ohms RM2 game until this thing gets modded properly?

Don't mean to state the obvious, but have you cleaned it up lately? File the hell outta the firing pin, give it a good bath, all that jazz. You may want to check that the 510 gasket isn't starting to break apart???

Just spitballin' here...

thanks hildi, i got an F in "shop"... and have never taken my Reo apart because i wouldn't know what to do... i suppose i could file the pin. for starters.

i just don't want to get a Grand replacement parts kit (how-to is on the Reosmods site... until the new kit comes out).

btw; i got some of the first metal Reo's back when, but left off when Genesis came around and only started up again when the RM2 came up.

I hear ya. Not so mechanically inclined myself, but this maintenance procedure is really quite simple and has helped me out a lot when things didn't quite seem like they were firing like they should.

Check out Rob's video...

I never had a misfire with any REO until I ran the 27 ga .8 ish ohm coil on my grand. Within a couple of weeks I had some intermittent firing - sometimes great sometimes weak. It was also sparking when I fired it where the pin contacts the battery.

So I went and bought me a set of tiny files , removed the Delrin cover and filed the pin. I very carefully replaced the Delrin cover and turned the screw just till it was snug (I've read a horror story of a dude that stripped his). Put some noalox on the tip of the pin and problem cured. No more sparks and hit like a truck again. So back to 30 ga 1.5 and above for me. The problem free sweet spot for this kid :)

I deduced that that I never had the problem before (or since) cause I typically run above 1.5 ohms and use 30 ga wire.

I also notice that the bottom of my button had a slight melt to it - nothing major but a little scar.

This is prolly from firing for like 10 seconds with that thick wire low res build to to scrunch the coils.

I'd say definitely heed the 'cats call above and file / noalox and yes bathe it (if it's cruddy with juice).

Looks like all this is only gonna be a memory once Rob drops the new kit :). Good luck Uke brother :)

I mod the button by gluing the top of a rivet on it. I have not melted one since. That's not to say such an approach means never cleaning, filing and noaloxing again - but it stops it melting during those times that the battery is getting hot from sparking and you just don't realise because you are at work etc.

I did the same as the Monkey, but i used glass filled teflon (i have a ton of it at work) and it's easy to cut. The mini 10A fuses at the local Advance Auto store were $3-49 for 5, which if i am not mistaken works out cheaper than Reo springs! :p

It being you, and all that, we'll make an exception and believe you despite the lack of pics. ;)

Xo! Great job with the mcgyver toolin man! But I really wanna know what kinda home made jelly that is..

That would be Mom's Jalapeno Raspberry Jam. My wife gets it for me at the weekly farmers market. The woman who makes it is the mother of a guy in the Subaru club my wife is in.
