This tip assumes all are annealing wire suspended in air. When annealing wire without putting tension to it, one is not taking 'all' of the springy
out of the wire. When you wrap coil then put wick in & fire it, the wire releases left over tension creating little gaps between coil & wire creating little hot spots
resulting in uneven heat. You must put tension on the wire before annealing it. I tighten my wire on the neg post & with my PV lying flat I pull the wire up slightly putting slight tension on wire & then pass the lighter over wire making it glow as I go. Don't stay in one spot to long or put to much tension on wire or it will break. You will now have dead straight wire with absolutely no spring in it whatsoever. I have not heard this mentioned so thought I would share as this is what put me over the top for making the perfect coil. I now get no loud popping & juice does not fly all round inside the top creating a flood/mess. YMMV
