Who uses them? I first thought they were just for genesis style rba's but I have seen vids of people using them on vivi novas as well. It SEEMS like it would be a cleaner, more accurate tasting vape. I just ordered some kanthal and SS mesh and a DID clone so I will be trying it soon. Just curious if anyone had any pointers, advice, comments and whatnot about them.

Make sure your mesh is well oxidized and the easiest way to wrap a coil is to use a drillbit. There's a YouTube video about how to do it. Pm me and I'll try to get you a link if you can't find it.

Yeah I have seen Junkyrock13's vid on youtube on using the drill bit! thanks for all the links guys =)

I use a Allen key to wrap my coil and slide it over the mesh wick. It dose take some practice. Dont get discouraged. Id try get frustrated and put it away for a day or two and try again. lots of good info on youtube. Look at several and kind of make your own system. Im in a small glass tube coop If this works it will be great the wick goes in a tube and the coil goes out side no more shorts!
Good luck and GOOOOOOOOOOOO Texans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please keep us up to date on the small glass tube! :)

As far as nova SS builds, it's best to roll your wick with the weave going diagonally, not laterally. This reduces kinks and allows better wicking

Lower ohm coils seem to work better I use 30 gauge K A 1 and I wrap it 4 times I usually end up with a 1.4 resistance. Ive made 4ohms and above 3 also but the lower seem to work better. I know just turn up the heat your thinking, but its just not the same. when you get your stuff play around with it. that's part of the fun!

I dont understand the whole "going for a set ohm level" on a coil. If you are using a VV mod, you can dial in regardless of what resistance your coil is at, right? Well unless you somehow make a 5.0 res coil I mean...

It seems to be in terms of surface area and heat up time. A short low Ω coil will heat up quicker and create a hotter vapor. Longer high Ω coils have more contact with the wick so should produce more vapor but it'll be cooler and take it a moment longer to reach temp.

Also its relevant with amps. You don't want to make a coil that is going to push the limits, er, I don't personally.

i have now used SS mesh wick (400) on all my Novas and A7 rebuildables and a rebuildable Smoketech tank from AltSmoke and it's dead easy to make. All i do with it is cut a small strip, say, 2.5" long for a Nova or about 1.5" for and A7 - and just roll it in your fingers like folding a cigarette paper.

I find it unnecessary to roll the mesh around anything and you can make it smaller and tighter - to fit thru holes or in slots - by just rolling it some more in your fingers - from the center and working out to the ends. I can make a mesh wick in this fashion in about 2 minutes flat. It's a lot easier than repeat boiling cotton etc and being SS - it is durable.

I am awful at making coils, but using SS mesh and holding the wire tight and close to where you are doing the next turn makes it easier and the stiffness from SS mesh makes it possible to do without needing drill bits etc! The drill bit method btw is from Peter K - so Google that to see his method.

In my experience it's wise to oxidise the mesh and repeat quench it a few times in water with a blowtorch or a cigarette lighter to reduce short-circuits. Also - once you have your coil on it the way you like - heat that then too - because that sets the shape and you can then fit the mesh and coil to whatever you wish.
The longevity of the mesh is good - i have one Nova here attached to a Silver Bullet, that i have been smoking daily for over a month now. Every 2 tanks or so - i just rinse the whole thing under a tap and it's as good as new.

I apologise for this being perhaps too long - but i hope some of it is useful to you.

your reasoning does sound, sound. but i will have to say from expierience that it actually happens reverse. when i first started with gennys i would use higher resistant coils, because coming over from regular attys i just thought that higher ohms rocked. a 2 or 3 ohm coil @ like 5 or 6 volts was the sh'''. it was very good compared to regular attys, and i thought i was in heaven. i then heard about really low ohmed coils and thought why, i just bought this vv mod that can go up to 6 volts so why not use it. anyways i tried the low ohm coils and never looked back. to me they are just better. i just got an ac-9 and couldnt get it working just right, thought maybe that it just doesnt handle lower ohmed coils very well so i decided to try a 1.8 coil with 30g instead of a 1.0 ohm coil with 28g (my normal set-up) imo the lower ohm coil gives you a faster start, more vapor, and a thicker vapor, also it doesnt burn your throat as much. to me the higher resistant coils feel hotter. the lower ohmed coil is warmer, with a nice throat hit, but the higher ohm coils just seems to hot for me. well everyones different, but i have really had my fair share of both and thats what i feel. now to make proper comparisons your devices have to be set-up correctly.
