Stainless Steel mesh, Oxide discussion.

I did the cotton condom method that petar k shows and its seemed to work fine. I am now using the method he describes here:

This doesnt seem like it should work but it does.

I do the same and every time I build a new coil, I can't believe it's working. Strange but works. The heavier the gauge, the better it seems to work for me. I now only use 30 and 28 AWG for this.

Always a bit smaller of a coil than the wick hole so as to have the unoxidized wick float inside the hole and not touch & ground with it's sides.

It is helpful to me to read the different opinions/facts posted on this thread; I don't have to figure everything out because you guys are talking through the whole thing (at times waaaay over my head too).

There's no need to oxidize by torching the mesh, couple of dry burn is enough.

Well that ate a couple of hours but good reading.

I have a DID ordered and now feel I won't bother to oxidise my SS mesh.

Make sure you are not using a PWM VV/VW device if you try un-oxidized. Those buggers create hot spots on their own Mechanical works best.

I meant to say un-oxidized....Sorry. Either way I've had a terrible time with my PWM mods as the fast pulses seem to create shorts/hotspots. Hope yours works great.
