I am currently using SS cable with braided silica sleeve as an insulator. It works perfectly with a little bit of dark back-wash returning in my tank. It wicks a little better than a regular setup of plain oxidized and juice-burnt 500 mesh and it's painless to set up. The biggest problem I ran into was actually cutting my SS cable, I did give it a bunch of juice-burns just in case. The build itself shouldn't generate any shorts or hotspots, if it does check again if your coil wraps are touching like they should in microcoil style.

One problem I ran into was that the taste was off. I found this was because my silica sleeve was sitting flush on the wick hole. All I had to do was pull it up a little. I also gave it a very short dry-burn just in case (I did boil the sleeve beforehand). Besides these 2 hick-ups it just keeps on performing very well. Try to use the least amount of sleeve possible.

Most importantly I think this flavor is the nicest I've tried so far, cotton doesn't seem to cut it for me.

I prefer using #500 SS Mesh on a AGA-T2 while using Naturally Extracted Juices. Cotton just won't hang with that type of juice due to coil gunking. I find it easier to use SS Mesh (30g Kanthal - 8 wraps on a 3/32 drill bit for a 2.0ohm MINICOIL). I just spin the wick out; dry burn the coil; and then spin the wick back down.

Was just wondering if there has been anymore news about this topic.

Any new news on this topic?

I just started using SS Mesh and SS Cable and glad to find this thread just a week after. I was worried about my juice going a rust color in the tank very shortly after adding my torched oxidized SS wicks to the RSST tanks..

I also have a few dual coil drippers on the way in the mail and was planning to test out some microcoil builds with cotton. Glad i already had switched to ecowool over silica a long time ago.

Eckwool IS silica, and I really wouldn't worry about your SS mesh. There are tons of folks using SS wicks every day. I run SS, Ceramic, Ekowool, the whole 9.

Sent from my pad...

I use SS mesh RBAs with solids, kanthal 28g. I use for solids and other high viscosity juice. Have been looking for appropriate ceramic for months; any leads on where to find?

Thanks for posting and spreading knowledge!

Agreed on the Ekowool being silica. It's only threaded in a different way.

But your point on SS mesh is moth. No disrespect intended. But it's like saying, in the 50s for example: there are tons of folks smoking cigarettes every day. My point is not to say if SS mesh is toxic or not. It is that any argument to it's safety should be based on sound scientific facts. :)

There's huge thread on DIY ceramic wicks. It started off w/ Petsmart air bubble stones and evolved to the use of #60 grit AO tile stones.

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/362182-next-big-thing-porous-ceramic-wicks.html

Here's one source.

Bon 14-831 8-Inch by 2-Inch by 1-Inch 60 Grit Aluminum Oxide Tile Setters Stone and Rub Brick, White - Amazon.com

(I guess the demand has settled down as they're 'in stock'. It was hard to find it in stock)

I have a smaller genesis atty and I started using cotton as a wick but anyway I wanted to ask if anyone tried a microcoil with the cable/mesh wick so far? I wonder if it'll wick the liquid fast enough

My friend uses genesis exclusively with SS cable with Ekowool sleeve. He says it wicks almost too fast. Take it for what it is. 2nd hand opinion. But I'd give it a try if I was still a genesis user.

Not that I'm aware of. Most of the original participants in this debate have moved on to ceramic or natural fibers (hemp, cotton), so the research kinda stopped...

Damn, nothing new. Was hoping to resurrect this thread and see what new information was in here...

I've sort of done the opposite and started to move back towards these "new generation" reduced chamber genesis atomizers utilizing SS mesh. My drippers don't get as much use as the flavor is amazing in these "new generation" gens... but the SS worries (could be completely unfounded) have me wanting to wick with cotton. (ugh)

Think i'd get arrested for running a Sat22 or Hellfire Mini with Japanese cottol + micro coil?! lol

I am with you man. This thread just died and this topic has completely stopped being discussed. Not sure what conclusion to draw from that, either chromium isn't an issue or it is and people have just moved on from mesh. I'm a cotton, micro user myself but it would be good to know whether we should be concerned about chromium or not so I can throw in a mesh build into my genny's every now and again.
