whats going on

I need some help picking out a starter kit. What I just got is a vista nova ( from vista vapor) e pen. Your traditional pen style which I prefer. however not even after a month of vaping - everything is tasting burnt. I have replaced the coils on each pen on two sepreate occasions however I still get that ....ty burnt taste. im using regular e juice, nothing premium, 50-50 VG. I probably vape 2 ml a day.

I've also cleaned out the threads in the battery that had a little black residue, still tasting like charcoal!

any help on what to do or what to get??

much appireciated

Uhhhgggghh. Can already see the problem, the tank is a clone of the old Vision Vivi Nova Mini, and is 4 to 5 year old technology top coil design, had to do the Vivi twirl every 2 to 3 hits, tilt upside down and twirl it about to let it soak up juice properly.

The battery is fine, its just an Ego class tank, you'd be better served with a better tank though, to keep the asthetics, you might look into a tank like this
Mini Kanger Protank 2 Mini Pro Tank Glassomizer

I have good memories of mini Protank 1 & 2.
The no.3 was less good, as it needed more power for the dual coils.
iClear16 was OK. Evod was OK too.
Try and get a cotton wicked atomizer if you can. Your problems are possibly down to the slow wicking of silica wicks.

Yeah, you're using 4 - 5 year old technology tanks/coils, like IMFire said.

The suggestion to upgrade your tank to a Kanger Protank or better yet an Aspire Nautilis Mini will be a huge upgrade for you. Remember, coil heads are only expected to perform for 3 - 4 weeks before they need replacement. "Prime" the new coil heads prior to vaping.

What ohm would you recommend?
This is always personal preference learned from trial and error.

Heating Coil "Resistance", or "Ohms"

Lower Ohm Coils Will:
  • Thicker wire (more mass) heats slower than thinner wire
  • Produce More Vapor
  • Drain The Battery Faster
  • Use E-Juice Faster
  • Produce A Warmer Tasting Vape
Higher Ohm Coils Will:
  • Thinner wire (less mass) heats faster than thicker wire
  • Produce “Less” Vapor
  • Provide A “Cooler” Tasting Vape
  • Use Less E-Juice
  • Prolong Battery Life

What is "sub ohm" vaping? Becoming more and more popular in the last couple of years, sub ohm vaping means using heating coils with a resistance of 1.0 ohm or lower. Basically what this does is produce more vapor and more dense vapor, and arguably better flavor ... at the expense of consuming more e-liquid and battery power. Sub ohm vaping requires the use of a mechanical mod or a high wattage regulated mod. One does not need to sub ohm, although many long term vapers eventually pick it up as a preference.

Thanks a bunch for the advice!!

1.8 to 2.2ohm on the PT2 Mini will work flawlessly on the battery you have and do it safely, as stated 1.5ohm is the lowest an Ego can handle but the amps pulled (about 5 to 6amps) is the maximum that battery can output, so a 1.8 or higher Ohm coil will be ideal, with the 1.8 being a warmer vape and the 2.2 to 2.5ohm ones being a cooler vape.

@Chakris
Vista Vapors has been around a while too, they make decent very good quality juices, though don't get me wrong, Heather's Just Peachy and Simple Pear are absolutely delicious, they are good alternative, maybe even Nicoticket and Mt. Baker as good alternates as well.

Yeah thanks, I realize there are a lot of good places to get juice at. Just mentioned a change of juice as the OP said they were using "regular" juice (whatever that is) and no-one else seemed to be taking this variable into account.

Yeah the Berrybacco from Vista is decent, and tasty. Couple more juice companies to check out if you like your 'bacco's would be Johnson Creek, and Backwood Brews, with Indigo Vapor as well which have a lot of specialization in tobacco flavors.

...and don't forget Heather's Heavenly Vapes - they have 14 NET's (Naturally Extracted Tobacco juices) that are really good. One of my fav's is called Huntsman - another popular one is Legend.

If you know what ohm your current coils are that may help you decide where to start. Cotton holds more juice and allows air to pass much better so you will notice a difference in clouds just from that alone even with the same coil. I know I couldn't handle 1.5 ohm at 3.7-3.8v when I started. Get a pack of each and start with the 2.2ohm then 1.8 etc. Keep them when they taste bad too, you can dry burn a rewick them quite a few times very easy and when your ready you can rebuild them very easy as well. Make sure you get the correct coils as well SOCC MT32 alot of vape shops still sell the old silica ones so you may need to buy online or rewick the old ones. It will most likely only come with the silca coil as well just make sure you take a few primer puffs before and after each vape to keep it wet.

Forget all the statistical mumbo-jumbo about watts, ohms, coils, etc., -it'll just bewilder and overwhelm you at this early stage and you'll get stuck in the paralysis-by-analysis dimension. Plenty of time for that later on should you decide you're really into the mechs, mods, and science of it all.

Instead, if you just want good plums of vape, ease of use, simplicity in design, etc., just go with something like the Joyetech Penguin. It's only $20 at most retailers and takes all the head-scratching out of the process. I got one and love the thing; putting away my Smok-Stick (should be called "Smok-Sticky" imho).

You guys get all the good deals. It's $42.50 in the UK (equivalent)....
I'm trying to import one, but not hit on the right deal yet.
