Hey all. Just going to do my first steel rope build on my rba and have a quick question.

I have 2 different wires, which is better in general for building with steel rope? 25 gage or 32?

also if any of you have time any general tips on this kind of build would be greatly appreciated. Thx:)

wow that's a big gap in wire gauges. I mean 32g is really flimsy and thin and personally would never use it and 25 gauge is pretty darn thick. wire gauges are usually determined by the resistance and power you are going to use. what atty, mod, resistance, and wattage are you trying to obtain?

I got the wire as part of a start up pack for coil building which also included some steel rope, wire mesh and a few basic tools. From all the youtube vids ive been watching most seem to like to use 28 gage so will be buying some soon. What would you recomend?

Just built it and i got 1.4 which is ok. Was aiming for 1-1.5. Im pretty new to all this so still experimenting.

Tried mesh but after a few builds its not for me.

Sorry chaps my bad I'll be more clear. Ive got pre cut stainless steel rope that wasnt galvanised.

Im using the rope as a wick, wrapping the tip in mesh and have used the 25 gage wire as my coil. With this set up i got 1.4 on my ohm meter using 5 wraps.

Im doing a genesis build on a kraken

Like i said im pretty new to this so any tips would be appreciated ie what gage wire you use etc

you are talking about ss rope? meaning this is your wick right? and the atty is a genny right? 1.4 ohms is good but what wire did you use? mesh is tricky for sure but is well worth the effort when you do master it. as for ss rope, its really not that much easier imo and has much heat sink(as it takes a while to heat in itself) couple that with 25 gauge wire and you will need to take 10 second drags

ok we got you now. I think you would be better suited with a slightly thinner wire and 28g is a good all around wire but the 25g will work but its just going to be a little slow. in my genny set ups I use 26g for the most part.

Ive only ever built with the beginner set i bought so i think its probably time i ventured out and bought some decent stuff starting with 28 gage wire. So far my ss rope build is doing ok but not glowing me away so will still be experimenting.

Just out of curiosity when building a mesh wick what mesh do you use?

As a noob thats the kinda thing i would never have thought of. Thanks for that mate:)
Yes twisted 32g is really a great wire and imo is better then just one strand of 28 or 29g. I'm sure you know but they need to be twisted fairly tight and a drill is best suited. I have done manual in a pinch but doesn't quite work as good. If you don't have a drill, one way is to take something that has a hole in it like a paint brush or something that has a clip on it or even a tweezer (opposite the open end). From there you could just manually use said tool to twist.

I'll defo give that a go while I wait for my 28 Gage wire to be delivered and compare the 2
