Guys,
so I just got my first shipment from 5 Pawns - do I really just unbox, open up and step away for 2 weeks????

AlBaron

I had a particular 5 Pawns juice and I think it actually got worse over time.

The "steeping" discussion is one of much contention. Personally I think it's a horrible business practice to send someone something in the mail that tastes and smells like your grandmas 40 year old potpourri collection and tell them it'll be delicious in a month if they shake it 65 times every 24 hours, let it breath for 6 hour intervals, and sing to it every night. It's like sending me rotten grapes when I ordered wine and frankly I think it's bull$&!+. ESPECIALLY when a company charges a mint and considers itself to be "gourmet" and "organic" or "artisan". Get out of here. You send me crap that is literally unusable when it arrives... I'm done buying liquid like that.

I really think it depends on the liquid. Fruits are good right after they come out of the mailbox or a couple days after.

Bryce's Vanilla Custard and Nicotickets Frenilla get better every day they sit. They are like a dessert each night after dinner. I am hitting my Bryces right now, I got 50 mls of it on 4/17 and tonight it went into my Patriot and it is fantastic. The first week for m it was unvapable (YMMV) but I was sure it was entirely on me and my setup.

When you find a liquid you don't like give it some time and see what happens. 45-60 days is a little extreme but I am happy I forgot about it and circled back.

Here's what can you do. Get a whole bunch of different e-liquids and start vaping. You'll have so much variety and so little time that steeping will just be something that happens regardless of whether you meant for it to or not.

That's what I did! And it worked great. I've found that some juices are fine right out of the gate and some improve with a little age. Depends on the vendor, I try to follow their recommendation.

No, it's more like some one sending you a bottle of wine and telling you to put it in the cellar for 3 years and it will be superb. Happens every day. Never seen any one attack the "business practice"

Charging a mint? Well, I guess that's all relative. If you want to drink Old Rose made last week, then by all means enjoy. If you want a smooth full bodied taste then pay a little more and do the shake, wait, shake.

Neither is "wrong". It's up to you to decide if it is worth it or not. Personally, I roll my own and couldn't be happier but it all still gets to sit on the shelf for 2-4 weeks.

that's pretty much what I ended up doing - within 48 hours of discovering this forum, I've placed orders with (granted, mostly sample sets, but still): Nikoticket, HHV, Five Pawns and ALtCig (that Churro just sounded too good not to try). I'm also waiting for Tuesday noon to place an order with Alice in Vapeland as well...

Oh, you poor soul! You do realize that you're starting down a path which has no end, right?

Edit: Not like that's a bad thing, though!

+1

Just started vaping about 3 weeks ago; bought so much juice from different vendors since then that I'm thinking of cutting up my credit cards! :(

It's already been said, but I'll elaborate on it. If it's good, vape it. Use a drip atty if you don't want to have to pour it back in the bottle.

If it has a strange under taste, it probably could stand a week in the steeping area. Uncap the bottle and put it somewhere it won't get knocked around, preferably where there's some air flow. Squeeze the bottle at least once a day to expel the stale air.

Some say unevaporated alcohols cause a bitter taste. I've had those and it took at least a week, sometimes two, to get the juice in a normal range. You really have to go through the steeping process because a capped bottle will never recover. I've stuck bottles in a closet for strange taste and they didn't recover in months, sometimes a year (I hit my bad juice stash if I happen to run out before an order comes in!). Some never recover using the uncapped method, but at least you tried.

Some say steeping with the bottles sitting in warm water hastens the process.

I would not leave it uncapped for very long. Air is an enemy to flavorings and Nicotine. I use either a magnetic stirrer or shake it good each day and if i'm in a hurry put it in warm to hot water for some of the steeping time.
Best analogy of steeping i have seen is when you make Home made soup or Spaghetti sauce is that it's always better the next day. I steep all of mine for a couple of days but sometimes sneek a drip of it.

"Use a drip atty"? What is that? Can anyone provide a link to a recommended one?

Thanks much,

AlBaron
