I had this same question when I started, steeping is the process of letting a juice sit a week or two to bring out the flavor, Some juices need to sit a while, especially if they are fresh made on shipping for the flavor to really come out. For example Vapedudes makes their juices to order, when my Chocolate Ice came in, the flavor was decent but kind of bland, I let it steep for a week, and it was amazing like candy!

Hope this helps :)

It is simply leaving the liquid in a cool dark place for a period of time to allow everything to bond. This helps achieve the best possible flavor from your liquid. There are a few different methods for steeping, like leaving the cap off for 24 hours before re-capping it and setting it aside and a warm bath before setting it aside. Fruit/sweet liquids can take only a couple of days to get a good steep, where as tobacco usually require longer steep times of a week or longer.

Only problem with the fridge is it thickens the juice and yuo have to let it warm up before using, I never heard of keeping in a cool place for steeping, most I've read says warmth helps steep faster, I know my juoices steep good in my hot ... house with no AC lol But I am in no way an expert so
PittBoss may know something I dont

I more or less meant room temperature, maybe a little cooler. A hot bath does help move the steeping along quicker but I believe constant sunlight and higher temps can degrade the liquid quicker. Might not matter if it's not a lot and I may just be misinformed myself, lol. After I mix up my liquid, I will give it a hot bath or just keep it in the cabinet of my work desk for X amount of time.

Ok thanks, no fridge, but do I leave the top off for 24 hours ?

You don't have to by any means. I have heard of people doing that to allow any "perfumy" flavor or odor dissipate. I personally don't have that problem and don't see the need to do that. Again, some of that is all about personal preference, but steeping is just that.

I know heat and sunlight will degrade a juice, mostly sunlight, but I read somewhere on here where someone did his best to abuse a juice, leaving it on the dash in his car etc and he tested it and there was no drop in nicotine, he said from what he saw, it takes a long time for sun and heat to make a significant difference in the juice

I am still really new at this, just over a month in, and I have been reading all kinds of posts here to try to answer all my questions. I have learned that depending on where you purchase your juice, if it is pre-made or made to order makes a difference. Last week I got an order of samples in from Mister-E-Liquid. They sent along a card that shows what date the juices were mixed and advised waiting 9 days for the best flavor and vapor production. I wish all the vendors would do that!

Also, sort of on the subject, but not exactly. I bought a bottle of Mixed Berries juice from Vermont Vapors. Printed right on the label is:

Recommended Storage: e-liquid containers should be kept tightly sealed, refrigerated, and away from light. E-liquid should keep for 6 months in this manner.

Not about steeping, but for storage purposes. Which makes me wonder if its just a personal preference type thing?

Mad Vapes is doing an extended experiment to see what trashes juice: http://www.madvapes.com/Nicotine-Concentration-Over-Time_b_55.html

As for steeping, I typically drip when I get any juice just to see (some are great the day they get home). Any that act like the cheese in that funny cheez-it commercial get the tops (and drip tip) removed and sat in a dark cool cabinet over night (tough love for it being immature :)). Next day caps go back on, shake vigorously and taste. After that I may leave them for a week shaking once a day.

I have had really stubborn juices that have taken a month, but in the most extreme cases (a really medicine flavored juice, I think it must've had an alcohol base I didn't care for) I use a warm water bath to accelerate the steep. Fill a large coffee cup with the hottest water I can get out of the tap, pull the caps and sit the bottle in the water until completely cools (30-40 mins, obviously not submerged to where water gets in)

Yeah, MadVapes did an experiment with this and found that after 5 weeks (if I remember correctly) the nicotine dropped 1 mg. Mind you I think it was just sitting inside on a window sill, exposed to direct sunlight. Overall, I really don't know what effect direct heat/sunlight will have on the liquids and it very well could vary between flavors, ratios, etc.

As far as leaving the top off, most that I've heard is that some alcohol based flavors need to be left with the cap off over night sometimes

True. Don't know if it really helps the alcohol evaporate or get rid of that odor, but it may also effect the bonding of the flavor molecules if that alcohol were to evaporate. Could just work out nicely, I just have yet to have ran into this..
