Hi Y'all so I quit smoking 2 months ago using e-cigs and now am wondering about the time frame for cutting out nicotine completely that other people have used.. I don't want to stop vaping, just cut down nicotine to the point where eventually I want to be using 0mg.

I am currently vaping 8mg, stepped down from 12 that I used when I was quitting. I usually vape about 2ml a day I think..

So my question ..how long did it take to step down, did you have any problems? what do you recommend?

Everyone has a different nicotine dependency. If you stepped down from the 12, then you were obviously satisfied like that.Taper off to that 8, so it doesn't seem to suck so much right away.If you like vaping, as many do, then that will also help nic become less of an issue over time, as alot of the addiction is surprisingly in the actions you take while doing it.Like vaping and still getting a satisfying throat hit.
I'm at 12 and happy if that answers the ? directly. Then again I am in love with some flavors, so it's kind of more about that for me.

Hope this helps...

For me it also depends on the juice. For example, I’ve stepped down to the lowest nic levels (6, if memory serves) on my favorite Halo juices (Freedom, Turkish, a few others) and still feel like I’ve satisfied my nic urge. Other juices, such as Johnson Creek, need much higher nic levels for me to feel satisfied.

Hi Yogisd, like you I'm 2 months in, started at 18mg, went to 11 and now I'm proud to say I've been vaping at 6mg the past week. However, I wasn't by any stretch a heavy smoker but I just could not quit. Another "however" is that I'm vaping more than I smoked but I feel great and much healthier than I did smoking, obviously.Last weekend I had a few drinks and spiked my juice with some leftover 18mg 'cause I felt a little antsy, did the trick.

I started with a smokeshop brand that was 36mg.. yeah.. way to high.. but then went with smokeless image stuff and niquid line all of which has 24mg. i then realized i was getting headaches from that.. and i am now down to 6mg doing just fine.. very soon i will be dropping that to 0.. i plan on having one carto filled with 0 and one filled with 6 and slowly focus on vaping the 0mg only.. and congrats on your successes.. oh.. and i went from 36 down to 6 in less than a month now.. and i was a smoker for over 25 years at 1.5PAD.. i am now analog free..

I started about 8 months ago at 18 mg yogisd. Smoked about a pack a day before that for many years. I'm now down to 6 mg and will be cutting that in half soon. I vape about 2 to 3 ml a day now. What I noticed since I've started vaping is that I didn't need so much nic after a while to keep me satisfied and I used that as a stepping stone to lower my nic levels.

I experimented with cutting back slowly and it's been working well for me. I still enjoy vaping and I don't think I will stop this year. But next year might be my year to do it. Time will tell. Good luck with your journey!

i quit smoking @24mg,,and then went down to 12mg withing 6 months,,another 6months and i am just fine with 0mg,,but some juice just taste so much better with a bit of nic in it,,so i do have some nic juice around ,but reaally prefer the 0mg stuff..

my body told me i didn't need the nic so dropping was super easy for me..

nicotine is not as truly addictive as most seem to think it is with vapin, but it was in smoking because of all the other added chemicals

I smoked a pipe for 30 years. For the last 5 I kept my eye out for alternatives and even considered quitting because of what it was doing to me. Nov 2 2012 I got my first epipe in and vaped it for 3 days. Then i lit my pipe, because i wondered what would i do if i forgot to get more e-liquid and it was so bad that i went online and learned how to DIY. I tried the 24 mg, and that was too strong, so I went down to 18. From there, I went down to 16, 12, 9 and now 6. Been at 6-9 for 3 weeks... I occasionally try out 3... When that satisfies me, I will do 0-3 until the 0 works. I do not plan on ever stopping, I just wanted a REPLACEMENT for tobacco. Bu t since nic is addictive, I figure cutting that out is a good idea.
However, I think that if you NEVER stop nicotine, you will still be doing good.
Vape on, d00ds!:)

A tale of two smokers, here.

Mom stabilized at 12 mg initially, and she's now at 10. She didn't notice it when I dropped her liquid mix (I DIY both of ours).

I started at 22 and dropped to 20 right around Christmas. It touched off a depressive episode, but a quick doctor visit and a raise in my meds and I should be good to go for quite some time, if not necessarily forever. As far as nic cravings, none.

I'm being really gentle about the drop in both of our cases. I'm slated to go to 18 around March first, whenever this batch of DIY runs out.

You can try doing both an 18 and a 20 at the same time. Just switch them for each fillup. Should ease the transition. Well.. It did for me.

You can try having 2 tanks with different juices and nic levels. In 1 tank put a very good tasting juice with 0nic, and in the other put the nic level you normally vape but with a not so good flavor. That way you'll be forced to enjoy the 0 nic juice rather than get a great throat hit with not so good flavors.

In my case, it was as much doing it around Christmas when my last DIY stuff ran out. I should have known better, I detest that holiday. One doesn't sit down for weeks.

If I find myself freaking out over the next drop, I'll adjust 10-20 ml up to 20 mg/ml and alternate. I don't think I'll have too much issue with it, it's only a 10% decrease.

I do not plan to stop using nic in my juice. When I tried to quit before I was cranky, depressed, unable to problem solve or make reasonably rapid decisions. I'm at 4mg nic and it suits me to a tee. There are too many studies out there now saying some nic in your system is desireable. I'm 72 heading for 73, have no signs of incipient alzheimer's and I'd like to keep it that way.

Nicotine is no worse for me than caffiene, I enjoy both. The hand to mouth and oral thing has been of much more importance in my being comfortable not smoking cigarettes. I smoked for 55 yrs the last 20 of them at 2 cartons a week and I stopped that the day my gear came, so I feel very comfortable with what I am doing now ;)

And that is what everyone should do. Find your comfortable level and go with it. Honestly, if I never get below 6, I don't plan on worrying myself to an early grave. I probably added 15 years to my life this past November because I stopped using tobacco! :D

Others had said it but don't step down too fast. I did and didn't realize all I was doing was vaping more and, probably, enjoying it less. I went back up to 12mgs when I realized that. Now what's working presently is 12mgs in the morning then alternating 12mgs with 6mgs in the afternoon with only 6mgs after dinner up until bedtime. I guess everyone has their method but anything approaching cold turkey I would advise against.
