I tried to quit analogs cold-turkey, but couldn't make it past the 2 week mark. when i switched to vaping, i started at 18mg, after a week went to 12mg, another week 6mg. the first 3-4 days after switching to vaping completely, felt a little irritated, withdrawal symptoms, etc but not as bad as quitting cold-turkey. i made up for the withdrawal symptoms by chain vaping. after the first 3-4 days, no problems. going from 18mg-6mg was no issue either, didn't even feel it. going from 6mg to 0mg, i felt a little irritated and short tempered for about a day, then i was fine. long story short: if i chain vape, who cares. no nicotine! best of luck to you on your journey!

My hubby never said anything about my smoking. When I decided to try vaping he helped me find the budget for it. Frankly things were so tight that $100 of front when I didn't know if I could quit right away was tough (it could have been that E$100 + $5/day for smokes if it failed). His answer to me when I asked if putting it on the card was a good idea was. You are making a positive choice for your health and our future. We will find a way.

..... edited for length.....
Are there people in the family asking when I will quit vaping? Sure there are. I just tell them I will when I am ready to and not one minute before. The hubby usually chimes in with something along the lines of "It is safer than smoking leave her the **** alone."

After 30+ years at a pack a day down to nothing in a flash. I think I can say it works. :)

This guy sounds like a keeper!!! Good for both of you. My DH is much the same way. His only irritation/concern is when he sees another little box or envelope in the mail. I have spent a lot on my new hobby. I have set a goal for putting a flat amount away every week that I am not smoking and that will be about 25% of what I spent on cigarettes. I want an APV, vv/vw and when I have the $$ in the kitty it is mine! He knows we are saving money. I decided that my not smoking would pay for the additional channels that I want on our Direct TV hook up so one week of savings is already spent, so to speak. It is nice when I am watching a series on HBO, vaping my newest after dinner flavor, I know it is paid for by cigarette savings! DH wanted to cancel them after our first free three months and I convinced him that it is a nice reward for not smoking! Heck, I only watch a few hours of TV every evening and I want what I want when I turn on the idiot box!

I have also cut the nic down so I can vape as much as I want. Last few days I felt the desire for a stinkie a bit more often. No problem, that will resolve in the next few days. Every time I cut down the dosage on Chantix, I went through the same thing. As my body becomes accustomed to the reduced nicotine I will feel the craving less and less.

I do have 18mg available and I mix a lot of different nic strengths to achieve the level I want. Yesterday I got some 0mg nic for mixing in the evening. I tried it last night and did not have the problem falling asleep that I have been having. I vape all evening and I was just getting too much nicotine before bed. Last night I was vaping at about 5mg and it worked just fine! I need (or think I need) the higher nic in the morning and then a little less during the day. It's been a life saver for me in this quest.

I've just been trying to explain to my significant other that it is better that I am using e cigs. That I do plan on eventually stepping down my nicotine to zero. But his concern is that I have been chain vaping for the past few days. He says I am replacing one addiction with another an he is concerned. I tried telling him that I am not ready to give him a time line for this. That I will gradually step down. But it's only been 12 days and this is harder than I expected.

I'd suggest, since you've just gotten started, you set aside worrying about reducing the nicotine for now.

They've found some 4,000 (!) chemicals in cigarette smoke, over 50 of which are known carcinogens. Nicotine is only one chemical in cigarettes (and other tobacco products). So you've quit 3,999 chemicals already. Maybe that's enough quitting for a while? :)

No, seriously, you've stopped repeatedly inhaling seriously dangerous chemicals into your lungs. That's a good thing. If you want to quit nicotine in time, that's fine. Great. But why put so much pressure on yourself? That's a good way to fall back into old habits. Building everything into a giant hill to climb. Meh. Give yourself a break.

He says I am replacing one addiction with another an he is concerned.

I'm sorry but that's... ridiculous. A smoker who can't quit smoking is already addicted to nicotine. You traded a nicotine addiction for a nicotine addiction? Erm... huh? If you trade something for the exact same thing, has a trade actually happened? I mean, it just don't make no sense. :)

But his concern is that I have been chain vaping for the past few days.

Why is that a concern? When you smoked, you were getting nicotine. When you vape, you're getting nicotine. Okay. Um... and?

Lissen, the point at this stage of the game is to get the nicotine without the 3,999 other chemicals. Nicotine is not a "health food" of course but it's not what's killing all those smokers. Nicotine in the doses found in cigs and vaping (and such) isn't that harmful. It's definitely not a cancer causing substance. The problem with smoking (etc) are all the other chemicals you inhale. Cut those out (as you do with vaping) and you have a, oh, less than ideal addiction to a relatively benign substance. Yeah, it's better to not have become addicted to nicotine in the first place. But, well, too late huh? :)

What's the worst outcome if you can't ever quit vaping? A "chain vaper" with reduced chances of getting lung cancer and emphysema. A "chain vaper" who lives longer. And has better overall health. And who isn't putting toxic chemicals in the air other people have to breathe.

Is that so bad? Seriously? Would it be? The "worst" outcome is likely a much healthier nicotine addict instead of a nicotine addict with lung cancer? I have, myself, such a strong attachment to nicotine, I doubt I'll ever quit the stuff. I'm just happy to have quit the cancer causing stuff. I may have caused too much damage over the years for my body to fully recover and maybe shortened my life but at least I've stopped doing the damage over and over and over every freaking day. And I sure feel better. Way better!

Myself, I think "chain vaping" is pretty common at the start. The way this whole nicotine thing works is you got used to having X amount of nicotine circulating in your blood stream. When it fell below some point, you had "nicotine fits". The "urge" to smoke. You didn't go get blood tests to check your nicotine level, you went by what your body "craved" right?

Switching the way you get your nicotine can throw you for a "loop" for a while. Your body still craves some level of nicotine but the way you get the nicotine has changed and your habits have to shift around and adjust to the change. I "chain vaped" like a maniac at first. I think a lot of us do. You're struggling to get to your personal level of nicotine but the way you get the nicotine is different and your habits are all wrong. So your body just yells, "MORE!" :)

You'll fall into a routine and level off. But it can take some "hit and miss" and trial and error to find what works for you personally.

Come on! You just got started! You already kicked over FIFTY cancer causing chemicals outta your life.

That ain't bad huh?

;)

I smoked for 28 years, it's been 6 months since I started vaping and quitted the stinkies. I was able to get my dad into vaping too, and that was a hard task since he had been smoking for 53 years! We started with 24 mg/ml of nic. Since I'm mixing my own juices (for my dad my mom and me) I started reducing the nic about 1 mg a week. We are down to 4 mg now. This method has worked for us. Happy vaping!

I just find the "trading addictions" thing to be completely nonsensical. You already had a nicotine addiction. If you didn't, you would have just walked away from smoking and never looked back. Some people can and do. And I hate them. I mean, that's great. :D

Fact is, there's a percentage of the population that's predisposed to being strongly addicted to nicotine and who may never be able to quit (barring some major advance in medical science and all). Is there a safer (not "safe" per se but safer) way for them to get their nicotine?

Oh look, there is!

Also, it's really tasty. :)

i chained vaped for at least 3 months. it is natural to vape more if you are not smoking the stinkies. it will slow down. my 13 hour batteries used to last 13 hours before needing a recharge. now they last 24 hours i have not intentionally cut back on vaping, but am vaping less naturally.

If you are chain vaping - may need to up the strength of the e-liquid. Go with 24 to start. That is what I did - actually vape less than I smoked. Good luck. My S.O. views the absence of all the other chems as a good thing.

I started at 12, way too low. Then I moved up to 24. But then I started to have trouble falling asleep at night. That's when the mixing of 18 and 24 began, but just for my evening vape. I also began mixing a 12 and 18 a few days later because I was still having trouble falling asleep. HUGE learning curve with all this. Much bigger than I ever expected.

Replacing smoking with vaping is like replacing a cancer diagnosis with a cold. They do not compare. You need to vape for your health, for your peace of mind, for your stress management, etc., etc., etc. The SO either gets on the program, or they remain a pain in the ..... Do some research on this site about the health benefits of vaping, particularly compared with smoking. Print them out. Have SO read them and ...., imho. It takes what it takes to quit, to vape, to drop nic, to completely change your life. You're doing fantastic and the SO needs to get with it, because I know thousands of vapers who completely get it! KEEP IT UP! YOU CAN DO IT! Live it, love it, do it. Power up and Vape on!

Really sounds like a control issue more than much else. Why is he concerned that you are addicted to nicotine if you don't smoke any more? My doctor actually recommended nicotine replacement as a method to quit smoking (although granted I'm sure he didn't have vaping in mind, heh heh).

Nicotine can be highly addictive and it's harder to quit than just about any other addiction. Getting static after only twelve days would annoy most people and i don't see that as reasonable. Nicotine from vaping is also far less harmful than smoking. Tell your SO to chillax and suggest he take up animal training as a hobby. That should satisfy his control addiction lol.

It's a hard process! My husband smoked cigs for 17 years, a pack a day. After about a month on ecigs he doesn't smoke cigs anymore! It was a tough process in the beginning for both him and I but it pays off!! He is starting to cut back on the nicotine and when he's ready he will be done with it. Keep up the good work. Your body will thank you for it!

how does it feel on your 16th day? i hope you are proud of yourself...you should be. keep up the good work, it is soooo worth it! hope it is not as rough on you now. keep us posted, i am following your success!

So far it has been wonderful! I got a VV/VW device and it blows my little e cig away! The flavor and nic satisfaction is perfect. I had been smoking few cigs here and there from my last pack while I had been adjusting. I went 3 days without one, then I broke down one day an it was awful! The taste was so foul and right away I wondered why in the hell did I ever want them lol. I haven't had another one in four days and I still have a few in the last pack. I left them in my backyard (where I used to smoke) and have not touched them since. I need to just throw them away

Today was especially interesting. I went to Disneyland and it was my first time there not smoking. I know there is a policy of making vapers use the smoking section so when I wanted to vape, that's where I went. But honestly I could barely stand to get near it. The smell made me sick. Which in a large way made me feel even better about my choice to vape. If the smell makes me that sick I know I will never go back to smoking. I ended up sneaking a puff here and there. I was worried about my new battery lasting all day but it all worked out perfect.

I am extremely hopeful for the future. I will be a non smoker again and enjoy vaping for as long as I want.
