I am working on the assumption that there's no update today because Classy is too busy now that Steve is off the ventilator and sitting up. And that is the image I am sending south to Florida.

Sorry I haven't updated yet today.
Still on ventilator, yesterdays surgery was inserting and leaving a tube in his right lung for draining...it is still making fluid.
He is resistant to the sedation, so I got to have yes & no conversation with him and explained again where he is and why.
He was trying to communicate, we tried pencil & paper but he can't hold the pencil.
I reminded him he has had over 31 years of marriage to learn sign language from me...would sure have come in handy now.
I only stayed for 3 hours today.

Thanks for the update Classy. It will take time, but that fact that he understands and is trying to communicate is, in my opinion, a good sign. Hang in there, young lady, we are all pulling for you two.

So glad to hear this Classy. I can't imagine how frustrated he must be. Praying that he will be off that ventilator soon and this building up of fluid stops along with the sepsis. Giving thanks that he seems to be improving. Do hope you are taking care of yourself and getting some "good rest".

Oh, (((Classy))) that does bring back memories to me of communicating with the pencil and paper, shaking of head Most likely he is going to have his own memories of what is going on right now and they won't be reality. But that will come later.

I am glad to know that you are taking breaks from the hospital. Something that I never did but certainly should have. You have to take care of yourself so that you will be better able to care for him when the time comes. Sending heartfelt hugs to you both.

Thank you for the update, Classy. It's got to be frustrating not being able to communicate, lots of yes and no guesses as you said. He is conscious and trying to communicate and that's good...more patience, more deep breaths...

I agree. Frustrating, but it is baby steps forward. Keep taking care of yourself - you'll need the energy when he comes home.
