I had thought I was doing good about a month ago but now realize that I'm still smoking the same amount of cigarettes.

I had a thought over the weekend of maybe trying nicotine patches to cut down/quit cigarettes and only vaping when the patch is on.

Has anyone tried this method before? I just don't know what to try next and am extremely frustrated and angry at myself for not being able to transition.

Any help, ideas, thoughts would be greatly appreciated,

thank you,

betty

I personally would not do it, using nic patches while inhaling nic sounds like a recipe for nic-sick overdose.

Tell us about your setup, your battery and delivery device, your juice (how much nicotine is in it?) and we can help you troubleshoot.

I'm still smoking also, but I am reducing the amount I smoke every week, so I'm happy.

Can you tell us a little more?

How long, how much do you smoke?

What type of pv do you currently have? What strength e-liquid?

BTW, I tried patches/pills/gum and they did nothing for me.

I agree, we need more information if you want suggestions and help. Using patches and vaping is not a good mix, IMO. I know some people use snus and also vape, just not at the same time.

My guess is your PV and your eliquid strength is part of the problem.

Yeah, I wouldn't vape or smoke using the patch. I didn't have any luck with the patch either. And I didn't do well with disposable or cig-like vaporizers. What kind of equipment do you have? It definitely isn't easy and it does take more effort to use vaping devices so don't give up. Try to cut down on your cigarette usage and vape during the day. Chain vape if you have to and drink lots of water.

Have you perhaps considered enhancing "no smoke" nicotine options without a patch? For example, I tried nasal snuff alongside vaping as I was cutting down my cigs. I found it very enjoyable and still continue with it. Some have used snus, but some dont prefer It at all. Higher nic juice?

What helped me is that I didnt give myself a set quit date. Instead I told myself I was going to have only 18 cigarettes instead of 20+ for a few days. I actually kept a diary and when I felt like habing cig 19, I'd vape my favorite flavor for 10 puffs, and I tricked myself into thinking that 10 hits off my PV equalled a cigarette. :) After a few months (yes months) I was down to 2 cigs....one in the morning after a vape and coffee (not before coffee as my habit for 30 years) and one at night before dinner (not after, as was my habit). Last month i realized I was skipping out on the morning cig in favor for a tasty vape, then finally cig free.

Maybe try not setting a "date" for quitting might help? Without a date to meet, maybe it would take some "pressure" off and prevent dissapointment? One of the tricks, I think, is not necessarily to bury a habit but to change it around a bit. :)

Really the best way to quit cigarettes is to just quit, IMHO I've never had much success when I've tried compromising...like just one or two here and there won't hurt... Yeah they do. I think if you want to quit smoking, like really really want it, the best thing could do is firm up your resolve.

I agree that if your juice is too weak it could be a problem, but also keep in mind that more nicotine doesn't necessarily equal less cravings. E cigs can help make the cravings lesser and more manageable, but for many of us, it takes a little time for them to subside completely. But by far, ecigs are the best tool available for smoking cessation, imho. If I were you I wouldn't even bother with the patch. You can achieve the same things by vaping stronger juice.

I lost my dad recently and I went from two packs a day to barely 10. I have to fight the need by vaping high nic, actually 24 mg. I've been in this situation since august, and nevertheless I'm happy because I quit 50 cigarettes a day. I can't complain.

Give it time. The cravings will subside with time. Get busy, brush your teeth, eat candy. Patches plus vaping is too much nic all together

I wouldn't slap a nic patch on and also vape, unless you plan on vaping 0 nic juices. The combination of the patch and vaping juices with nic in them could definitely cause you to get sick, and THAT will probably cause a negative psychological effect (vaping = sick) that will turn you off from vaping forever.

I saw a lot of good ideas reading these posts, particularly keeping a daily log of all the cigs you smoke and cutting down weekly or monthly to slowly wean yourself off the analogs. Give yourself X amount of cigs a day and stick to it, then cut down the next week to X-1 or X-2, and so on until you are only having one or two a day. At that point, you should be able to give up the stinkies for good!

Other ideas I liked were upping your nic level a tad in your juices depending on what level you're at right now. If you are using only 6 or 8 mg. juices, crank it up a notch to 12-18 mg. and keep your PV on you at all times. Keep your smokes in your car when you're at work and keep them in your car when you're at home - make it a task to be able to have one and maybe you'll pass on having one when you already have your PV in hand. And by all means:

Keep Trying And Never Give Up!!!!

I've been vaping now for about 2 months and yes, I still smoke the stinkies. BUT, not NEAR as much as I did when I wasn't vaping. Is it a little deflating knowing I still give in to the occasional cig? Yes. But knowing I am on a good path to finally quitting after 25 years of smoking 2+ PAD and knowing full well that BT specifically designs and crafts those cigs to keep me dependent on them and making them very difficult to put down, I feel like I'm making great strides when I know I'm smoking only 5 or so cigs a day! Point is, I'm struggling along with you as well are many members on this forum. Together as our own support group, we can help each other quit one person at a time!! :toast:

My condolences on the loss of your father. I completely agree with your advice and recommendation to avoid NRT's like the patches while using e-cigs.

Betty, please don't be fustrated with yourself. You are not alone, here's a link - http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...dicted-smoking-habit-support-chat-thread.html

Try reading this. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/general-e-liquid-discussion/230570-wta-e-liquid-issues.html You're issues may be that you're dependent on other things in cigarettes other than just nicotine. Many people are and don't even know it. Tobacco contains many alkaloids that are addictive. Then there are the chemicals tobacco companies add to make them more addictive or to addict you faster. Also there are things like MAOI's and anti-depressants. Remember cigarettes contain 4,000+ substances and nicotine is only one of them.

Dont vape or smoke with a patch, nic overdose. If you dont have a VV mod get one now and you you see a big difference, I smoked for 38 years and started vaping with a small ego battery and a 510 battery and that wasnt working and almost went back to smoking then I got a VV mod and still vaping almost 3 years later.
