A mod is just a shell that you can use with regular batteries, rather than buying a whole new battery (like an eGo).

501/901 are types of connectors. They need to be the same on the battery as they are on your attachment (clearomizer/tank/cartomizer) to work.

Many people use carto-tanks that have a cartomizer shoved down in the middle of a tank instead of a wicking system.

What is a mod?
"Electronic cigarette mod or modification is an improvement on the original product or a completely “home made” heavy duty e-cigarette."
Best e-Cig Mod List | e-Cig Mods Database
What is 501 /901 in reference to?
If you're speaking of 510, 901 and 808 they are the diffrenet thread types on PVs and accessories- If you have an eGo it's a 510 thread. My Don has a connector thread for 510 and 808.
What is the difference between a clearomizer and the tank like those in the the Pictures Of Your Setup thread that don't seem to have wicks?
No picture?
Like these things look sweet, but I can't figure out exactly what they are. Is it just the battery or...???
That's a Tube Mod and the batteries are separate, replaceable and inexpensive. Also much larger mah then eGo batts.

Great info. I'll add a couple things. I think of a clearomizer like this - a cartomizer without polyfill. A tank being different because instead of being laid out like a cartomizer, the atomizer inside may be different, usually replaceable, though some clearomizers are too, but mainly you'll see that a tank can take basic drip tips, where clearomizers seem to have their own. Like Boiler said, a carto-tank, like say a DCT, is a cartomizer inside a tank. You'll notice those cartos have a flange on the bottom because of the tank and also have at least one hole in them so the juice in the tank can enter the cartomizer. If you use these, make sure you also fill the cartomizer the first time you use it.

Now the link you posted is a mod, where you'll install rechargeable batteries (that are cheaper to replace than an entire unit non-mod battery like an eGo) and connect something like a tank, or clearo. Keep in mind that a mod does not mean that its variable voltage or variable wattage (VV/VW). Also a Mech Mod (mechanical) has no fancy electronics in it. It's bare bones. Harder for something to go wrong and easier to fix, like an old car. Push a button that connects the battery and it lights up the atty, know what I mean?

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the patience the vets have with us noobs. There is SO much info to take in when your first getting into vaping. One more question, in reference to what Boiler said

"carto-tanks that have a cartomizer shoved down in the middle of a tank instead of a wicking system."

What is the pros and cons of this type of system over a clearomizer?

My Don which is a Mechanical Mod fires at 3.7 or 6 volts depending on the batts I use is 1 1/2 yrs old- still fires great, looks great and is a workhorse. Only had to replace the firing pin. Uses 2400 mah batts which means I get at least 20 hrs before recharge.
Carto tank- can be finnicky but generally the carto will last longer cuz the filler is always saturated. When I use carto+ tank my cartos last, before tight draw begins:
dark juice- 50- 60 ml
light juice- 80- 90 ml
LOVE my Vivi Nova but nothings beats the vape out of a 1.7 carto IMO.

Ha no worries. I had a feeling you missed it - you posted right after me, so I figured you just didn't see mine when you posted.

Hmmmm, a non-disposable tank as long as the tank lasts (the one I mentioned is glass and well made), but with "disposable" cartos inside that you'll swap out when needed. As far as the drip tip. You wouldn't really drip with a the carto, but you have the choice of replace the tip with whatever floats your boat.

Now if you're looking for a small disposable clearomizer with 510 threads that has amazing flavor/th/vapor, I can highly recommend the Kanger M3. When I say disposable, I'm really just meaning not rebuildable (nor can you replace the heating element). You use it until its not working to your satisfaction. The you can replace it or attempt to clean it before reusing it. Even though the M3 only holds 1ml, I can't help but to buy them. Very nice.

Also how does the PG VG blend work? what is the benefit of one or the other or a 5050?

First, some people are allergic to PG. Other than that it just come down to preference. PG is known for better flavor and throat hit and VG is known for better vapor. I prefer PG but do like the vapor of VG (the lack of throat hit bothers me though). So a good blend for me is 80/20.

on the Kanger M3, what is the little space at the toop of the tank for or is that the mouth piece? Hard to tell in pics.

Yeah, it's a dedicated mouth piece that you pull off to fill. It's a unique mouthpiece though in that the very top of it also has a cap that you can take off to clean the inside of the mouth piece as it collects juice condensation before it gets in your mouth. I wish condensation didn't exist, but after three years, I've resigned myself to the fact that sometimes you'll just get a little in your mouth or on your lips and you'll have to wipe out the mouth piece.

Sorry, I didn't actually post info about the cartotank, but said I did. I like the 3ml U-DCT. Easy, no mess and looks great on an eGo type or a mod. Then buy the replacement hole-punched cartos for it. I'd recommend 2.5 ohm single coils or if you get a dual coil, maybe get the DTC Hole Puncher to make the hole a little bigger or add a second one in the cartos - same goes for if you use a thicker juice. Used with an eGo, I'd also recommend the eGo Cone Cover for DCTank, and to make it even easier to fill, maybe the DCT Refill Funnel.
