I've been vaping for a few months now and have managed to stay away from analogs. There are, however, rare occasions where I crave a real cig. Today was one of the moments...there's something about firing up the grill that makes me want to smoke. I made some burgers for my family tonight and really had to battle the urge to smoke. Fortunately the craving went away, but I couldn't help but feel bad. One of the best things about vaping is that I don't have to go outside to get my nicotine intake anymore.

For the first time in a long time I actually thought about going back to analogs. Im not going to give up, but wonder if anyone else has this struggle sometimes....

I think different people have different kinds of struggles. Some never look back, and some do. If you haven't found a liquid that you are completely happy with, keep looking. Great taste goes a long ways in forgetting about analogs, as well as good throat hit and vapor. You are going to definitely see an increase in health over the years if you are off the analogs, that is worth it in itself. Hang in there and keep asking questions.

Yes! When I'm *really* stressed out is when I think I need one. I usually spend a few seconds on the thought before going back to the original stress topic and the whole thing drive me nuts. Over time I've learned to busy myself somehow if it's a serious craving and though it's silly, it helps. I pick up my crochet, or start doing dishes. Like you I'm grateful I don't stink of ashtray anymore, so my favorite things have been reveling in that. Long shower, awesome bath products. Or a great smelling hand lotion zoning session. Worst comes to worst I'd probably test my Listerine pain tolerance, but these things tend to work.

Oh the cravings.... As others have typed, you don't stink,, you don't..... All the same, but it doesn't really help. The craving lingers. 36mg juice is nice for the cravings. But it's still not the same..... Isn't addiction wonderful...
I still struggle, in case you didn't notice. I watched 50/50 tonight...man I don't want to be that guy for sure..even if he did get a hot cool girl friend.... I am blessed with a hotter and cooler wife and 4 beautifully spastic children....this is what keeps me going...some day I hope it get easier..good luck.. Just remember that you can always get back on the wagon

I still get them, too. I don't even think about going to get the unopened pack I keep in my car, though. Whenever I get that craving I just immediately reach for the vape. That's all I can do. After over 5 months, there is NO WAY I'm going back. I'm not going to go through that again. My best advice for you is to try to keep the same attitude. Good luck! :)

I've been vaping for 4 months now and i used to smoke Newport's for quite a while and then switched to Camel Menthols. Anyhow...i don't ever get cravings but I've smoked a camel menthol about two weeks ago out of curiosity and i really didn't like the taste. Ironic because i used to think they were delicious. I think i have smoked a couple other occasions when i was really drunk and my vape had died on me -__-

To make a long story even longer... i don't miss the taste nor smell but i was talking to my brother earlier about it and he brought up the point of missing the whole ritual of taking a cig out and sparking one up.

I'm shocked personally at how fast my cig cravings went away... and it's funny that I'll joke about being so stressed that I need an actual cig from time to time but it's like my body does not follow suit with that sentiment and I realize I really don't mean what I just said. And even if I do get the passing thought I just vape a little harder.

Now that's not to say I can guarantee I'll never try another cig again, but for the most part I'm confident that I at least won't ever go back to sucking a whole pack down as long as I keep my vape supplies stocked up.

Sometimes I get a small urge to light up (my favorite part about smoking) but then it goes away. I think the only way I'll go back to analogs is if they ban e-cigs. I keep reminding myself how much more free I feel. It was always troublesome to worry about where to smoke, if I smell like smoke, major illnesses caused by smoking and all the negative things that is tied with smoking analogs. I just keep reminding myself all the pros about quitting smoking to try to get over that urge. "Keep your mind on the things you want, and off the things you don't want. Attitude." ~Bruce Lee

Yes. They go away. Eventually. I'm 4 months in, and even the idea of lighting up disgusts me. Which is a big deal for me because I LOVED to smoke. I chain smoked for 22 years. I wasn't one of those "this sucks but I can't quit" guys. I couldn't quit because I loved to smoked. I loved to smoke. I loved. To. Smoke. (Lightly quoting Dennis Leary)

But since I've made the switch, vaping>>smoking by a factor of 10,000. When I was only a few weeks off cigs, and we were without power after Sandy for days, my batteries were all shot or near dead. With no car charger, I was worried. I started having cravings. I still had an old stash of cigarettes in my truck. Giving in and lighting one up might have been the best thing I ever did...

Because it SUCKED! Oh my sweet Lord, it was HORRIBLE. I immediately went into a coughing / gagging fit after only one drag. Put that garbage out immediately, and found a way to charge my batteries. (Hey, my kid's laptops were nearly useless without internet anyway. I should have thought of it sooner. :)) And now, I no longer get the urge... ever.

That said, getting a craving a few months after quitting (or even years) isn't uncommon. OP, was this your first time grilling since you quit? It could have been a yen caused by association if you normally had a cigarette dangling from your lips while grilling. It happened to me a lot while driving in the beginning. But vape away during those times, and your mind will stop associating it after a while.

You're doing good. Hang in there. :thumb:

Think of:

1. Your congested chest/coughing.
2. Kissing $2,000 - $4,000 goodbye p/year.
3. Reduced life expectancy/cancer, emphysema, breathing/talking through a hole in your throat.
4. Stinky clothing/environment turning other people off.
5. People looking down on smokers.
6. Loss of physical endurance.
7. Ashes everywhere.
8. Going out into the cold/rain to smoke.
... and many more.
