Yes, you will find that list of 599 additives (just what some of the cigarette companies wanted to disclose), but you will not find a complete and comprehensive listing of the 4,000 or 7,000. And that is what I am after. Although not necessary to convince me that smoking is bad for your health, I think locating this list would be very good ammunition for the quit smoking/vaping cause. I want to be able to show smokers "EVERYTHING" that is in cigarrette smoke.

and in this study they refer to this: "The IARC (2004) review indicates that some 4,000 mainstream tobacco smoke compounds have been identified (Roberts 1988)"

I am not offended by the remarks about OCD. Yes, I do have OCD, and I am proud and not ashamed of it. One of the benefits or positive aspects of OCD for some but not all sufferers is a certain meticulousness and extreme attention to detail, which if we are successful in chanelling can be very useful. I believe people with OCD may have an increased ability to filter our external stimuli because of their obsessive and "tunnel-like" thinking processes.

Of course we don't NEED to have this list to know that cigarettes ain't good for ya, so I am wondering why the need to exagerate? If it is indeed exageration. I am curious about it and would love to get my hands on this list. Would our government be saying something that simply was not true? Could it be possible?

This is why I have stopped repeating these figures myself, because I cannot find any such list.

The List of ALL Chemicals that the FDA has Ever Approved, for Every Manufacture, for Every Brand, Past and Present, is Not Very Reflective to what is any given Cigarette.

If you are Talking about Every Individual Manufacture and Brand of Cigarette (Menthol and Non-Menthol / Being Sold or Have Been Sold) than yeah, a Ginormous List like is Kinda Scary.

But if you are Taking about the Cigarette that is Hanging out of Someone's Mouth right now, No, the list is Not Very Meaningful at all.

Because the Cigarette that someone is Currently Smoking Doesn't Contain all of these Chemicals.

There are other ingredients added to tobacco at levels less than 0.1% in PM USA cigarettes, including the natural and artificial flavors that give each brand its unique characteristics (the brand recipe), as well as ingredients in the non-tobacco components. Yes, it is important to note that the "599" list , does not reflect what is in every cigarette. No single cigarette would contain all 599 additives. What the cigarette companies actually put in their cigarettes is proprietary information and what was disclosed was only what they wanted to disclose and only a few companies participated.

But when they speak of "4,000" or "7,000" chemical compounds produced by the combustion process, well I am guessing they are meaning this is what is the particulate matter in the average cigarette smoke. There must be a scientific basis for these figures. And when they say they have identified these compounds, someone musta been taking notes and jotting them down right? Well I just wanna see those notes.

I am not offended by the remarks about OCD. Yes, I do have OCD, and I am proud and not ashamed of it. One of the benefits or positive aspects of OCD for some but not all sufferers is a certain meticulousness and extreme attention to detail, which if we are successful in chanelling can be very useful. I believe people with OCD may have an increased ability to filter our external stimuli because of their obsessive and "tunnel-like" thinking processes.t.

I am Glad to see that you Understand the 1st Rule of Interpreting Statistics.

"If they Don't tell you How they Derived a Statistic, they Haven't Told you Anything."

People don't need to Lie using Numbers, they just don't tell you How they came up with the Numbers. That can Achieve the Same Goal.

I missed you're sig about you having OCD.. if you are proud of your condition.. why the desire to seek support?

Interesting question. I believe we should not be ashamed and should indeed be proud, for none of us asked for it, and our OCD is a part of who we are as people, but there is still a need to support each other and particularly offer support to family and friends of those with OCD. Support groups are also good for education and educating others and ourselves. I started a support group to support and encourage dignity of people with OCD.

I am also a vaper, and proud of it, but I think vapers need support as well. Quitting smoking has its challenges and it good to have people around who understand what your going through and can help. A supportive and nurturing environment is essential.

Now if I can somehow lift the entire list of compounds out of this book and put it into a PDF or something, that would be nice. It is over 2,000 pages long in print form and it costs nearly $300.00 to buy it.

It is just really obvious to me as I transport those with physical and developmental disabilities each day and many of them have this component to their lives. No worries. I think you do have a good understanding of the OCD mind. The need for completeness, the need to know things for certain. We OCD'ers do not like "gray areas", it is either black or white for us. Either true or false. Right or wrong. Day or Night. There is no inbetween. We are also extraordinarily persistent, which as I say can be a good thing, especially when correctly applied. Learning to master OCD and make it work for us, rather than against us, is one goal of mine.
