I have been smoking since I was 14 years old. (Trust me, I am not proud of that) I am 48 now.
I have tried quitting several times in the past, twice before vaping was ever a thought.
At about 30 days, I become a bear with rabies and do not like being around myself.
About 4 or 5 years ago, I attempted to quit on cig a likes, but had no luck. Discovered I was not using them right according to the manufacturer. Of course it had to be my fault.
3 years ago, I tried again with a Great Mod and used cartos, that I had to keep filling and got frustrated cause I went through them so fast. I did find my RM2 to go with my REO Grand, and quit until just before my knee replacement surgery, but lapsed just prior to surgery, as my Doctor said to stop vaping because of blood pressure issues. I thought I was getting more nicotine from analogs? Who would have though about it.
I am currently working on quitting again.
Not sure what my problem is, but I am suspecting it is something to do with flavor blindness?
I have had my best results with a variety of strong flavors set up on different tanks and mods. Unfortunately most flavors do not seem to last.
I vape 6mg, as anything higher just seems to tear my throat up. Meaning I vape and spend the next few seconds coughing my head off.
I am headed to the B&M now to check out new flavors and see if that helps.

As far as equipment goes, I feel rather versed but that could in itself be the problem.
Current line up is.
REO Grand with RM2. love it too much, but I lose the taste of the e-liquid, so I keep others around.
MVP 2.0 with Iclear 30s, switching to 30b as I noticed that bottom coils give better flavors. IN my humble opinion
A7 dripper with an old ego type battery 950mah. Good vaping and flavor 1.3 ohm coil.
5 Pawns "Gambit" love this stuff, but I go flavor dead fast.
Blueberry cheesecake e-liquid from another B&M store that I will not go back to because its bleh.(service and product availability sucks)
Orange Cream that just seems to have lost all flavor, again from afore mentioned B&M.
Hopefully I can get better stuff at new B&M since they mix their liquids on site?

ANY IDEAS?
Will check back in when I get home from the New B&M.

I made an admittedly ....ty AA boxmod for the battery life. Basically, a puck ecig.
The PUCK e-Cig Mods - e-Cig Box Mods You Build Cheap and Easy That Use Standard Rechargable Batteries

Battery life so far has been over 15 hours. I'm liking this. It works rather well for me with coils in the 2.4 ohm or so range. I'm using cheap menthol at 18, and better flavors on my ego with 6 mg. I'm liking it.

The best advice I can say, is get some heavy juice to prevent cravings, and use cheap atomizers, so that you can just fill and vape. I like the no mess. Keep loading with nicotine, and use the vape like you normally smoke. When I'm in the car, I'll vape. If I'm at a bar with friends, and we go outside and people start smoking, I'll vape and join them.

What really helped me, is not trying to find a cigarette flavor. And, after a few days of vaping, cigarettes tasted a little gross. I still might enjoy them, might buy a pack, but would rather buy better juice for the same price, if that makes any sense. I've just been loading up on nicotine, and that helps the cravings.

You might like a juice that has tobacco based alkaloids in it (sp? it's basically tobacco extract) but .. I dunno. I found a good chai tea I can vape all day.

Edit to add: Turning it into a nerdy hobby also seems to help. Oh? I want to buy a pack of smokes? Get online and buy parts to build something. It's like building guns, instead of some activity you do for glorious nicotine. If that makes any sense. Instead of buying smokes, just diy your own ejuice or something to invest yourself more in the vape, then a pack of smokes.

If I'd tried to quit with 6mg nic, it wouldn't have worked. I started at 24mg, and had a lot of success, but even then, I couldn't quite stop smoking. After meals, I still needed a cig and vaping just wouldn't change that. Eventually, I got some 30mg juice, and the day I did, I quit smoking. I didn't need the 30mg for long (and I only used it after meals and when I was really wanting a cig.) The 24 because my "all day" for awhile. Once I was convinced I was off the cigs and happier vaping, I started cutting down on the nic. For awhile I was vaping 0 nic, but I've gone back to 6, and for now, I plan to stay with that.

There certainly is a learning curve. It's not the same as smoking. Good luck.

I too loose the taste for certain flavors within a single tankful. I'm going on two years of being "smoke" free and have learned a few lessons along the way including how to deal with rapid flavor loss. The great secret to conquering rapid flavor loss lies in diversity, having several "favorite" juices (each possessing a different flavor profile), and rotating after each tankful. Finding several great, distinctly different e-liquids is the real challenge. My big break came when I discovered NET and "flavored" NET because fruit, candy, bakery and synthetic tobaccos would never have worked for me long term. I have many outstanding NETs to choose from, each uniquely different in flavor profile and simply rotate through them one tankful at a time. Equipment is also important in obtaining exemplary results, best move I made was getting into RBAs and mods capable of handling performance builds. Dual 28 gauge micro-coils @ 0.6 ohms wicked with Koh Gen Do cotton powered at 30 watts is my sweet spot.

Are you still smoking & vaping? This was an issue for me and made me choke on a lot of juice. After just a few days of not smoking, the 24mg juice I was gagging on is now very smooth.

and the stupidest one of all lots of plain old water. I hate drinking water but it works. I tried filtering my water through coffee first, this didn't help. Had to be plain water.

Yes, forgot this one. Before getting off the smokes completely, it was cough your head off vaping, then cough your head off smoking, rinse and repeat.

I've been posting about this a lot, like a new religious convert...but maybe what you're missing from vaping are Whole Tobacco Alkaloids? I started a thread which is currently on the front page of this forum.

I'm not saying that's what you really need, but maybe it is. I found that it killed all of my cravings, and eliminated the need for willpower. I liked (like?) smoking, though, and for me to switch, it would have to be completely painless. With WTA, it is.

If you buy from any of the three available vendors, it should be simple to dilute some unflavored down to 6 mg with VG/PG and add 10% to your favorite juice.

If flavor's your issue, you might want to order some juices with extra flavor shots. For a juice without extra flavor added, I find Boba's Bounty to be nice and strong- if you like the flavor. it's not for everyone.

Good luck.

Honestly have tried the higher nic route. The unfortunate part is over 6mg, and I gag, hack, and cough, when I try to inhale. With that in mind, it is negative reinforcement for me.
The 6mg satisfies me, as long as I find it interesting enough to keep vaping, If not, then it becomes a knickknack on my desk.

I had to go with super strong flavors like hot cinnamon for it to be satisfying at first. Spent about 3 or 4 months there before I moved to other flavors and my sense of taste came back to normal.
Should have checked e-mail while I was at the B&M.
Did not think of that.

At under a dollar each, I just ordered spare 6 mil bottles for my every day carry REO Grand. I have never been able to empty it in a day, so I can switch bottles.

Yes, but when I get a good strong flavor, I was able to go days at two or three cigarettes a day.

I must have had a psychic bond with you when I was at the B&M, I had them wind me new coils for my RM2 and K7 dripper. Of course I had to replace the cotton in the RM2 because they did it so tight, and covered the fill hole too tightly, but it is working now, with new cotton in it.
