Not sure if I started this in the right spot, so mods please move if needed.

I built my first protank coil yesterday. It was a 12/11 wrap with 28g kanthal around a syringe tip. Made another one today except it was a 11/10 wrap. They first was 1.6 ohms and the second was 1.3 ohms. Normally I can only vape pt heads at 7 watts or I get burnt dry hits. With my home made ones I can vape at 11 watts without burning.

However I am not noticing any real difference in flavor or performance. I am using twisted cotton from cotton balls, organic type. I do get a cotton taste to me vape however. Not really fond if it either. The juice flavor didn't change at all and the vapor production is only marginally better.

I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong. I see videos blowing huge clouds from the same build and everyone posts how huge of a difference homemade coils are. Id love some suggestions on what to try to improve my coils.

Really? Before was it packed in three really tight or something?

I didn't think it was too bad at first. But it was in there tight enough that it didn't wiggle before soaking with juice. Next one I didn't spin so tight and made sure it could move a little before soaking. I've got a little piece on top for a flavor wick too. I'm using 50/50

The reason is straightforward — your coil build and set are lacking the mechanical symmetry to function efficiently electrically.

Twelve winds are inherently short risks in a KPT, even when tightly wound. I vape 9W (minimum) across a variety of variable devices. Here is a fluent example of what will put you squarely in the high watt camp…

and the gang will put you on the power grid.

See the earlier thread…

for guidance on localization and termination of coil sets.

Save ya weeks (or more) of time and fiddly.

Good luck.

I found that my wick was too thick. I pulled it out and cut down the cotton by half and it works like a dream now.

I found that to be the problem with most of the prebuilt protank coils I bought. The wraps were either all wonky and uneven or the wick was really jammed in there.
