Storing nicotine

I hit the search portion and didn't find an answer, so I was hoping y'all could give me a heads up.

I want to store nicotine (yet haven't purchased it yet).
Due to the political climate that we are all fighting against, I just want to be prepared...in case.

The issue I am running into is I understand nicotine will store well if air is kept out of the bottle and it can last for years. Fridge or not.
The question is I never see straight nicotine and it always seems sold in a base material of PG or VG. When mixed, what happens to the storage times? The nic stores well on it's own, but I have to question how well it lasts with other base materials added. The strongest I see is 100mg w a base.

Secondly is straight "Nic" available? I understand the dangers.

Really no reason to go over 100mg base. Liquid manufacturers in the USA don't even bother to buy over 100mg. The risks outweigh any reason to buy it and if you don't have a lab and proper equipment (ventilation, chemical gloves, chemical aprons, goggles) to work with, the stuff can be deadly.

Wearing protection to keep spills and splashes off of your skin, face/eyes... Transfer into good quality airtight small bottles (dark glass such as amber is probably best) once the larger bottle is opened. This is so you don't have air space in your storage. Clearly label that you have 100mg in the bottles (so there isn't a chance of confusion when you revisit a bottle in a year or so).

Store in a dark cool place WELL out of the reach of children, animals and idiots, and locked up if there are any of the before mentioned in your home (but then, you knew that right?).

DVap has mad lab skills and knows his stuff when it comes to nicotine. Here are his recommendations:

A mixture of essentially propylene glycol and nicotine has a lot less that might go wrong with it than a mixture of propylene glycol, nicotine, and a bunch of components added for flavor.

So, here's what I would do for long-term storage. Other opinions may differ.

1. Keep it simple, the closer you can get to just propylene glycol and nicotine, the better. (Though I think most liquids also contain a small percentage of water, perhaps to help with nicotine's miscibility with PG?)

2. Store it dark.

3. Store it cool. (20°C should do, I really don't know if refrigeration will help, kinetics at room temperature 20°C/293°K aren't that much more energetic than at -10°C/263°K).

DVap has a B.S. in Chemistry. You can find that info quoted above on this thread (the thread is an interesting read in itself and will give you some good info. on nicotine) http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...any-interest-determining-nicotine-dvap-4.html and also look at his forum posts and blog by clicking on his user info. next to his post.

If you still think you need to go with something higher, PM him and ask a few questions. I'm sure he'll give you the straight scoop on it but no info on where to buy it... you won't find information on the forum for buying either. Too dangerous for general public info. here on ECF.

Be safe as you stock up and mix it up! A good DIY calculator will be very useful with this stuff (this one is very popular) eJuice Recipe Calculator

Happy Vaping!
