Ok so how long should flavoring last? I buy PG based flavoring and I am going to go ahead and buy some extra of what I used regularly and want to store it well. They already come in glass bottles. Should I keep the flavoring in the fridge to make it last much longer. I currently keep everything in a lock box at room temperature, but if it will last much longer (flavor staying potent) by keeping it in the fridge I will do that. Thanks for any info on this!

Do not keep flavoring in the fridge. That could do more harm than good. Do store in glass bottles, cool, dark place. Food flavorings will be available long term. No worries there. Most flavorings will last up to 2 years. Others will only last 1 year.

Lots of questions here but the best answer I have is this. FDA does not have the financial resources available to enforce all compliance with USP specs. The little fish are getting away with murder (hyperbole, on my part). I don't understand where FDA is going to get enough funding to enforce the new deeming regulations on e-cigs, either.
Thanks and Sorry yzer, not going to beat this to death, final comment, lol. What you state makes perfect sense, and is what I speculated after learning you where right in the FDA in law on all USP. However, my point was more specifically, when we get some USP labeled product, then most believe it's not only compliant, but also certified USP i.e. checked and "OK'ed". I cannot find what the rules are on this, except the rule i've always found about medicines needing certification in means of an MA(marketing authority - medical license), so USP is checked(certified so to say), and the voluntary USP 3'rd party verification program, that just gives you a badge to show that you are USP certified, but is about GMP and fully voluntary and not by FDA. The FDA don't have resources to check everything obviously, but my point is if an USP product is demanded to be certified by FDA, which I personally don't think, e.g. for dietary supplements, and if they do need certification, then most of the VG we buy is lying.... This was actually my main issue all along... Not a question, but a comment...

There, just don't wanna come off as a ...... ;) Well, except a ......ed-speller, lol...

Very informative info, @yzer , it's appreciated.
I'm wondering about this tho. I buy a pre-mixed Nic/PG/VG @24mg (laziness on my part, I know, but I really enjoy using this). So for a pre-mix Nic/PG/VG do the same standards apply for freezing? What's the estimate for longevity freezing this? I haven't really seen this mentioned in discussions. Unless I missed this and in that case I apologize in advance.

Here is what you need to know about freezing nicotine. Since this post was written, it has been said that it is thought that nicotine may last indefinitely in the freezer.

No need to panic. VG and PG will still be available. I store mine in the gallon jugs that I receive it in. VG, PG and food flavorings aren't going anywhere.

I'm panicked bcuz i don't want to DIY. it's too confusing and overwhelming. I'd rather buy premade juice and build coils all day/everyday. I just read some DIY blogs and my head is spinning. All these parts and pieces that go into one juice....this is crap. So angry at the government right now I could scream

Plastic is OK but Glass containers in the refrigerator or freezer is better. With the new FDA regulations now in effect you better stock up. THese regulations may not effect PG/VG to much but everything else will be effected. Flavoring, hardware, NIC etc.....

VG is better stored in warmer temperatures. I got this information years ago at the Dow Chemical website. Please, do not store it in the fridge or freezer, folks :)

I hear you. But, you have time to learn. The worst thing that you can do is to panic and rush into this. Learn DIY before you make a rush purchase. Juice will be available for purchase for about 2 years from August 10 or at least 1 year according to this-

Yes, all MSDS states e.g. 0 - 30C, and is stable up to 60C or something, but it shouldn't hurt to fridge or freeze, there are many testamonials of people doing such fine, e.g. we all freeze our VG nic ;) Some do it in summer because of no AC... I know atleast two on the top of my head, but i've read several more... Kurt states it's fine, but it would be stupid to not let the product come to room-temp first before e.g. refilling your room-temp bottle from e.g. fridge-bottle, as VG is highly hygroscopic(PG I believe is regular hygroscopic), as else your VG(and PG) will be thinner and thinner because of drawn in moisture/water...

Most nics btw, also state in there MSDS not under 0C ;) (Which we all ignore)

Thank you so much for this info! I feel a lot better. Time to pull up my big girl pants and dive into this thing called DIY. At least like you said, I have time to learn and not go wild on buying a bunch of stuff that I have no idea what its for

Right. Because you will end up with a bunch of stuff that either you don't like or you don't use.

Find recipes that look appealing first. Then make a list of flavors you will need to make those recipes. Mush better than just grabbing a bunch of stuff. :)

Very true, mhertz. I would still prefer to keep my gallon jugs of VG in a warm environment.
I don't fridge or freeze personally, only store in dark closet at room-temp. There are however, reports by some that state that there VG get a sour tone after it's getting bad, and I also gotten it after a really hot summer without AC(30C in closet), but i'm not certain about if it was that, athough remember another similar report(summer-heat and no AC) making said person use fridge always... I have ordered some new VG once which upfront has a slight sourishness too... Anyway, I dunno what is most optimal I must admit... :) Would love some "full-explenation" from DOW on this... Could also be that they think about freezing at e.g. -30C or something, which freezes VG solid... Probably not though(intent)... I will need to google this(to find out the explanation to go with the answer), but thanks for letting us know salem :)

Thank you. I will keep them in a lock box as I have before and yes I definitely plan to use glass bottles from now on. I was wondering about flavorings and the future availability, but I definitely needed to update some of my older ones that were in plastic bottles that are about a year old. But, if they will still be available long term then that is at least one thing I won't have to worry about. :) I look forward to a thorough "dumbed down" posting from CASAA and on here of all of what that 499 pages specifies so I can continue to plan accordingly.

If you can follow and make a baking recipe from scratch, you can do this. Some like to get all technical with it, but you can make it as easy or difficult as you want.

Start with single flavors, a few syringes and an empty e-liquid bottle. To this day I still use stainless condiment cups that I bought from Walmart to pour my individual ingredients into when the container mouth is too small to fit a syringe barrel in. My hands are too unsteady to use needles and pipettes suck. lol

There are plenty of places here as well as on the net that will give you max and most common percentages for each individual flavor. Begin with your favorite, and as you get more comfortable you can move to using two flavors and then three. Mainly, relax and have fun with it. :)

SF, know what you mean about the unsteady hands:D, that's one of my biggest problems.

Sux, don't it?

Oh good Lord, does it ever. Like trying to hit a moving target with another moving target. lol I thought I'd be done with it once I had my thyroid removed, no such luck. Sharp objects and I no longer speak.

HI All,
I use plastic caps with P/E cone liners for my nic storage bottles. I use 120ml bottles and fill them up almost the lip and basically screw on the CAP. The cone liner squeezes out any excess nic and leaves almost no air in the bottle.
Below are the caps I use.
4 oz Amber Glass Boston Round Bottle | Glass Bottles, Jars, Closures & More | Packaging Options Direct
My concern is that the nic may start to eat away the PE liner when stored for a long time. I'm also wondering if the plastic cap may start to leach air over time.
I'm thinking of using the below metal caps with a Poly Vinyl Liner instead.
22mm 22-400 Black Metal Cap with Poly Vinyl Liner
With using the metal caps, I'm thinking of pumping the bottle with wine preserver gas as mentioned in another thread and leaving a little bit of space between the nic and cap to avoid direct contact between the nic and Vinyl Liner.
Do you think this might be a better way to cap the bottles? Or am I just over thinking this?

If your VG should "sour" or if you just don't trust how old it is...DON'T throw it out !

1 part VG, 4 parts water...and a few drops of what ever oil scent you like...rose, lavender, gardenia...
Makes a fantastic skin softener :)
