OK, I know the news channels are having a blast talking about how bad it is going to be, but how many believe it?

I stopped in a Walmart to grab a trash can. It was a madhouse!

Note, the trash can is for power outages. It is now filled with water and will be used for flushing if I lose power and cannot pump water. So, I am getting ready, just in case, but what the heck?

The battery section looked like badgers had hit it. I didn't even go near the food section as it looked even worse in population density.

Interested if anyone has war-stories or anything else interesting comes from this system from fellow Hoosiers.

My husband and I make a note of the weather forecasts, but we certainly don't overreact. He dropped by Kroger on the way home to get dinner stuff and said it was worse than Black Friday at Walmart had been. In other words, a madhouse. You'd think everyone in town was down to their last can of pork n' beans and a couple of bread heels...sheesh.

I think Connersville (which is currently getting pummeled with rain) is supposed to fare a little better than Indy, and wayyy better than the NW part of the state. Even if it was the same as they predict farther up north, we still wouldn't do anything different. Food? Check. Shovel? Check. Bottled water? Well, no...does beer count? Candles? Check (although I couldn't tell you where the nearest lighter is anymore).

Coming from the PacNW, I expected to move to the Midwest and be shocked by the winters here. Hasn't happened...yet. ::keeping fingers crossed that I haven't jinxed myself::

I'll let you know what, if anything, transpires between now and Wednesday, when the snow is supposed to arrive.

I wanna move back to Georgia

Seriously though, I'm going to the local Marsh for a few supplies shortly, so I'll report back later on the situation - call it the "State of the Bedlam Address."

Hoosier, I just use the existing "outdoor" trash can to collect snow in for flushing. I mean, it's not like I'm going to drink it.

 I hate that part of relying on a well for the water supply, though: no power, no water. No water, no flushing.

We're going to get frosty on this one, but at least my eGo batteries are fully charged!

If things get really bad, I have the necessary skills to build an igloo.

Yeah, my GF moved up here from the Atlanta region and she was in full panic mode.

I typically keep a trashcan full of water in the basement, but the one I had developed a crack and the water has leaked into my floor drains, so a new "emergency flush" can was needed.

I've lived through quite a few disasters, tornadoes, blizzards, ice storms, and just plain no power for days, so I am used to having quite a few supplies socked away. Lost a good chunk of those in the divorce and I'm still trying to restock. I miss the heaters and sealed fuel the most as replacing them is an expensive process.

I think this system is still nothing compared to 78-79 or the ice storm in the 90's that left me without power for more than a week. (My parents were out of power for 3 weeks for that ice storm and my dad borrowed one of my kerosene heaters, after my power came back on, and ran heating oil in it. I trashed that heater and had to help scrub the soot off their walls. Being cheap did not payoff well for him then.)

It looks like the folks in the lake effect trails are going to get it the worst... again.

We are just dealing with iced roads here, so nothing unusual.

Well, not much going on out there. The butcher said he'd seen a bunch of folks running around like chickens with their heads cut off ( and he should know what that looks like ) last night, but that it had been quiet all morning. The store was relatively empty and I didn't see any "panic shoppers."

The road department here seems nervous. I think the prediction for tonight is 12"-15" and of course we're included in the blizzard warning that the NWS has issued.

Good times!

Mornin...

We got a couple feet of level snow and drifts are from there and up. No real ice (yet)!

I have a large drive and I'm trying to think of which friend with a blade needs some sort of favor

Not going to work though as we are under a level 1 weather emergency (nothing but emergency vehicles) so I guess I'll just watch it blow around today!

Dude I've had a garage explode on my neighbors & shoot all kinds of stuff through my siding & put holes all through my siding. Had a person's gutter go through my shutter next 2 my office window & completely through siding drywall & stick into the wall in the hall like a knife in a stabbing victim. Tht wasn't even on the news when it happened b4 it became cold in 2011. The big tornado in southern indiana a few back completely destroyed my old neighborhood & my old brick house. 3/4ths of it gone literally. What was left was the staircase & the dining room we never set at. Scary part was table was set, plates, forks, napkins, etc 4 decoration & it was all perfect including chairs untouched w/ no walls & no roof, just a suspended floor. I'm not complaining as others have/just did suffer huge loss I'm just saying tht storm is another example of how bad it's getting in southern indiana. It's sad & I often think is there not anything we can do 2 diffuse these things?

I take offense some when the storm chasers talk about tornados w/ words like beautiful/etc. I let it slide because they shoot discs into them & track them down. All to even understand it. All we know is cold fronts meet warm fronts. That last storm wasn't too bad in Evansville, but they released a video of a touchdown at North HS. We didn't even know until 2 days later. If your a tech nerd like me I'd say something may be possible in the future. It would have to be sprayed in advance on such a large scale it would need to be military aircraft assisted. Probably not in our lifetime. I read our military was closing in a weapon that can cause rain. In Japan they have a gun they shoot you w/ & it makes u silent/can't talk, google it. Woah long post good night
