People with the highest level security clearances were exposed, including my mother. I just, I don't even know. It's hard to feel safe anymore. Did anyone see on the news where they remotely hacked a Jeep while someone was driving it?
Yup I saw that (although from what I gather the person in the Jeep was perfectly aware they were going to do it, it was for a news piece so he was a willing subject in this case), but Chrysler/Jeep came out with a software update soon after that owners can download to a USB stick and apply themselves or go into their Chrysler/Jeep dealer and have them do it. Never the less as much as I've seen/read/heard about hacking computers, this takes it to a new level that can kill people. When you think about those people out there that go to movie theaters and kill many people, or the kids that bring guns to school and kill all their classmates etc. Now they'll be able to kill just as many people by hacking into "connected" cars that are barreling down the highway at 80mph. I'm not sure why auto manufacturers would think that they could put people in danger by having their cars that are connected when the computers in industry / retail that are "connected" are hacked all the time, difference being in retail hacking they get credit card info, and in the case of a connected car they could kill tens of people in one go by simply pressing the brakes remotely while the car is screaming down the highway.
I wanted to get one of the Tesla cars but they are super connected and now I'm really not so sure anymore.
With terrorists, it will become a whole new ball game. The terrorists will invest heavily in things such as this (hacking connected vehicles) and won't even need to leave their home countries to kill dozens of people on trains, planes, and in our own cars.
Personally, I think that Chrysler/Jeep should have issued a national recall for this issue to ensure that every one of their hackable Jeeps gets updated and doesn't rely on customers to do it themselves.
