I am a new member here (Hi Everyone!) though I am not new to vaping. This is a major problem I've been having recently, so mods, if you have a better forum for this to go in, feel free to move it.

**THE SETUP**

Hey guys-

8 month or so vaper here. I've been trying to enjoy some 12mg Basic e-liquid that I bought about 2 months ago from Cignot. I have a variety of flavors - Ahneeda Fruit, Hazelbutt, On Top, Dew Drops, and Big Chill. I sampled all these liquids when they first came in, with no apparent problems. Since I'm trying to gradually step down to 0 nic, I let these sit for a few months while I finished off some higher nic stuff.

**THE PROBLEM**

Over the past few days I've noticed a strange flavor whenever I vape, first it was very slight but now it's almost all I taste when I take a puff.

The worst part is that this flavor hangs around my mouth for literally hours after I vape just a few puffs. Even brushing my teeth and rinsing vigorously with mouthwash doesn't help much. I'm worried this might be some kind of impurity or allergic reaction, and I need to figure it out before it gets any worse and I'm forced back to analogs.

**THE FLAVOR**

The flavor itself is extraordinarily difficult to describe, it's a little like food but a little like chemicals, a little sour yet slightly "savory."

Imagine a nasty warhead (sour fruit candy) that isn't particularly sour (it doesn't make me pucker my lips, but it does taste ....ty enough that it's hard keep from trying to brush it away with my tongue) that's flavored like some weird combination of citrus and meat.

There's also a component that I might call "salty," but it doesn't really taste like salt.

I first noticed this when I filled a tank with On Top. Thinking it might just have been a part of that flavor I didn't remember, my next fills with Ahneeda Fruit and Dew Drops got worse. Today I vaped Big Chill, and I don't even taste mint, just mouth fulls of this nasty indescribable flavor every time I puff.

This isn't a burning atty, I know what that tastes like, and it's not this. As I said, this flavor doesn't go away until hours of not vaping (i.e., going to sleep and waking up), which is not something that a burning atty has ever done to me before.

To give you an idea of how bad this is, after rinsing with both hot water and mouthwash, eating leftover pie, and drinking both water and milk, I could still taste the nasty flavor in my mouth, though it was somewhat diminished.

**THE RIG**

* 2x Ego-T batteries from Cignot
* 2x 510-T batteries from Cignot
* 1x Ego-T (type B) atty from Cignot
* 1x 510-T atty from Cignot
* 1x Tornado-T (Mega) atty from Totally Wicked
* 2x Ego-T (type B) tanks from Cignot
* 2x 510-T tanks from Cignot
* 2x Silicone Ego-T tank caps from Cignot

My rig lives in a locked box in my basement (not ideal, I know, but the fridge is unfortunately not an option).

I don't know if the batteries could be part of the problem, I kind of doubt it but I figured I'd list them just to be safe. I really don't want to throw away nearly $100 worth of juice, let alone batteries and atties, but I'm literally about to go buy a pack of analogs and will do anything I can to avoid that.

My tanks have been in rotation for a few weeks now - I know, I should replace them more frequently, as even before this happened, I could still smell a strong odor, even after rinsing them. However, I don't think there's any way that explains how the flavor hangs around my mouth for hours after the fact. It's literally all I can taste right now!

My atty's aren't particularly old...less than a month on the 510-t, and less than a week on the tornado-t. I blow them out whenever I refill/replace the tank, and am used to the first few puffs on the new tank tasting like old flavor, but I don't even taste flavors anymore, just mouthfulls of nasty!

**SOLUTIONS SO FAR**

I've opened a new cignot Ego-T (type B) atty with a new cignot tank that came pre-filled with 18mg Menthol. After blowing out the primer and letting the liquid soak in, I can actually taste the menthol flavor when I vape, but it's definitely making the flavor that's already in my mouth worse.

I'm going to be throwing away all my current tanks, since they were getting on a bit anyway. Ditto with the silicone caps, these guys seem to retain flavor like nobody's business.

I'll be giving the contaminated attys a clean tomorrow, along with some cloggied atties I have that needed a cleaning anyway. However, unless there's a fool-proof way to get this flavor out of them I think I might just be better off tossing them as well - sad, but I can't enjoy them if this keeps going on.

**tl;dr**
vaping, which helped me quit analogs almost cold turkey, is nearly ruined for me. Please help!

I really don't know what to make of what you are describing, especially since your reaction to the taste sensation(s) is so strong.

Are you sure there isn't something else going on right now like a sinus infection, dental issue or onset of a cold that might be contributing to the problem? I've had loss of vaping taste phases - that never lasted longer than four days. And sometimes all my liquids would taste the same - like hardly nothing at all. But menthol still always came through clean and clear.

You may want to run this one by Vicki @ cignot I have used some of the flavors you bought from them too, but never got a taste sensation as you are describing.

I wouldn't be too hasty on tossing hardware until you get this figured out.

Hi, welcome to ECF. Are you a guy? Do you have a moustache? Do you exhale through your nose? There could be a *remote* possibility that if you began exhaling through your nose, you could be leaving some smell on your moustache. If you had one. If you are a guy.

Vaping for 8 months, though, you probably had gotten your vaping technique down for you.

Hi, thanks for your reply!

I am well as far as I know, no colds or infections. I am planning on shooting an email to Vicki (I have contacted her before, she has been very helpful in the past) at least to let her know that there could be a problem. Things seem to be performing somewhat better with the new atty and tank combo, I also switched to my other battery which seems to be helping as well. Not really sure how that works, but I'll be sure to clean both of them with rubbing alcohol in the near future.

I won't be tossing my hardware before at least giving it a good boil, I should have time for this tomorrow and will report back on the results.

Wow sound like a yucky taste. I don't do tanks so no help there. Can you try a carto and see if that changes the taste? Do you have non flavored base you can vape and see if the taste is there there?? bnrk

Hi, yes, the taste is pretty horrid :(

I do have some CE2's, I will load one of them up with one of my new backwoods brew flavors tomorrow to see if that changes anything. I don't have any base unfortunately.

I just had a thought...is it possible my liquid could have gone bad, considering I keep it in a basement? I keep the bottles sealed in my lock box when I'm not filling, but is there any way some sort of mold or bacteria could be growing in there, producing this flavor? My BB liquids should be telling there, as I just got them in last week.

Hi, I am a guy, and no, I don't have a moustache. This is definitely a first, and the one sour (literally) moment in an otherwise wonderful experience.

OK, here's something: The nasty lingering taste had subsided enough for me to temporarily be able to taste again, so I decided to experiment and switch back to the "bad" battery, atty, and tank filled with the Big Chill. I definitely noticed a strong citrus taste, probably leftover Ahneeda Fruit or Dew Drops, before the lingering taste came back so there's no doubt in my mind that the atty should be cleaned and the tank replaced. Hopefully this will help things, I will certainly report back with my findings tomorrow.

Vicki is an experienced tank user - don't forget to mention your tank setup when you e-mail. I don't use tanks, but there might be an "end of life" issue with the tanks attys and it may be time to replace. If anyone Vicki would know - and she wouldn't just tell you that to get you to buy more stuff either.

I do hope you get this figured out ASAP. It's no fun when vaping falls flat. But it seems to happen to most of us for brief periods sooner or later. Some people move to an unflavored liquid in this phase too. Something to consider trying.

Are all of your juices 100% VG? VG is sweeter and thicker and some think a bit greasy feeling. I'm surprised it works in your tanks unless it was thinned by the juice maker with water or alcohol.

No, my new Backwoods Brew flavors are at least part PG, as is the menthol I'm currently vaping.

I do have a tendency to push the life of my gear, since I'm pretty broke and don't like the idea of tossing things that are still functioning, even somewhat. I'll definitely consider an unflavored liquid when I place my next order. I'm just confused as to how this taste could linger for hours; I've never run into this problem before or read anything about it happening to anyone else.

I did notice that these Basic liquids seem to be flavored more strongly than some of the other liquids I've used in the past, but again, I don't know how any flavor could linger in my mouth for this long.

I've had to significantly increase my water intake since I started vaping a couple of years ago. If I get dehydrated, I develop very thick sinus and throat mucus that doesn't cause a traditional stuffiness/congestion feeling (i.e. I can breathe normally), but coats those respiratory areas and causes barely recognizable flavor components to linger as a scent or as a taste.

Teaberry juice (high or pure PG, so it's not the VG hanging around) gives me a strange floral plastic-y smell if I fail to keep up with my water intake, for instance. You might try drinking more water and perhaps some tea as well to see if if affects the sourness.

Good luck -- hope you find a solution!

Ok, I've had something similar to your experience happen to me. I use cartos and tanks, and I reuse the cartos and tanks but only refill them with the same juice that's already been in them. I've noticed that when I'm vaping FSUSA Wyatt Earp, if any condensation forms inside the carto/tank near the mouthpiece end, I start to get a nasty taste in my mouth that won't go away, even if I clean the condensation out. The odor reminds me of food that's gone bad or sometimes like bad dog breath? I've thrown away any cartos/tanks at the first sign of this odor because I've never been able to get rid of it once it starts and it makes me queasy if I continue to vape it.

The best thing I can come up with is that there's an oil-based flavoring in Wyatt Earp that goes rancid quickly? There's nothing wrong with the juice, and this only happens to me with eGo flat tip cartos and Joye 510-t tanks.

Anyway, please know you are not alone, and if anyone can explain this to me, I'd be appreciative! :)

WOW! The dog breath description is spot on! Glad to know I'm not alone :) I suppose the citrus taste was just leftover juice hanging around the atty.

Oddly enough, it seems to be clearing itself up. It's still there, but less intense, and seems to be lessening over time. I'll still be doing a thorough boil tomorrow, of course. Still a little worrying how long it can stick around in my mouth though :(I may still try to use these juices, but i'll just have to bear in mind the shelf life is pretty short - the bottles aren't labeled with a "use by" date, but other ones I've had have said "24 months"...seems odd that these went so quickly. Working backwards, I'd say the culprit(s) must be On Top, Dew Drop, and/or Ahneeda Fruit. I'll certainly be emailing Vicki to inform her about this. The suggestion to use one tank/carto per juice is a good one, and it's a policy I'll be adhering to from here on out.

Thanks for the tips, greatly appreciated!:vapor:

aunshui I can understand the safety thing. :) Have you thrown you're used tanks out and gotten new ones to use? I throw mine away about every 5 to 6 fill ups. But then again I am switching over to boge cartos as I've found they have more flavor and vapor then the tanks do.

There's no doubt that I try to push their lifespan, but I can certainly see the drawbacks now. Odd, considering the fact that this never happened with my first 510-T, and I used those tanks for months before I figured out that they can get quite gross after awhile!
