I've had to significantly increase my water intake since I started vaping a couple of years ago. If I get dehydrated, I develop very thick sinus and throat mucus that doesn't cause a traditional stuffiness/congestion feeling (i.e. I can breathe normally), but coats those respiratory areas and causes barely recognizable flavor components to linger as a scent or as a taste.

Teaberry juice (high or pure PG, so it's not the VG hanging around) gives me a strange floral plastic-y smell if I fail to keep up with my water intake, for instance. You might try drinking more water and perhaps some tea as well to see if if affects the sourness.

Good luck -- hope you find a solution!

Yes, this is definitely something I've noticed. Drink up!

Welcome to ECF aunshui. I haven't had that experience (yet) but I do want to thank you for starting this thread, it will help others who may have this problem. Keep us updated on anything you find out, and maybe help keep a lot of other people from getting too anxious about it happening to them. We can all learn from each others experiences, be they good ones or bad ones. :toast:

Give your tank atty's a good soak in white vinegar with baking soda prior to boiling them. Let them soak for 30 minutes then rinse in hot water. Toss them in the boiling water pot. The vinegar/baking soda will eat off any nasty residue that is there that you can't see and should remove any funky tastes still lingering. Just make sure you rinse well before boiling them.

+1 on drinking more water.

Clean you atties. I rinse under the faucet with hot water. Then let them soak in PGA or vodka for a few hours. Rinse under the faucet with hot water again. Then soak in clean PGA/ vodka for a few min then set out to dry. Dry burn and repeat if necessary.

If using cartos see this for cleaning and filling

Also I did not see mention if you use a drip tip? I know that my drip tips are usually cause for wired or bad tastes. I just soak them overnight in vodka and they are good to go again. Also I have experienced this "dog breath" kind of flavor, but when it happens is when I get juice that I have been vaping in a carto for a while in my mouth (Ie vaping in bed and some leaks in my mouth after vaping it all day) but never from the actual vapor. Hope you can find the solution to your issue. I would clean everything you can. Make sure you grab a q tip and some PGA or rubbing alcohol and clean your connection posts on your bat and charger too. I know that some of my flavors linger even in new cartos if I do not clean my bats.

Hello!

Thanks for the kind words! I'll definitely keep updating this thread, based on Momster's description of "dog breath," I'm pretty sure at least one of my juices is starting to turn. I'll be doing a boil shortly, after that I will fill new tanks with each of the liquids and compare them to try and pinpoint which have this odd flavor.

Does anyone have a suggestion for where to store juice other than the fridge? I could probably keep my lock box upstairs, so the juice at least won't be exposed to light, but again, the fridge is not an option.

Hi, I use drip tips with my CE2's, but this problem seems to be primarily based around the tanks/atties I listed. It's not juice leaking into my mouth, I've definitely had that happen before but it's never hung around strongly in my mouth like this

Hey Guys! I'm back with an update-

I took hairball's advice and soaked my atties in baking soda an vinegar for about half an hour, before boiling for a half hour. I also boiled the 2 silicone caps I had used so far (I have 3 more), thinking that I might be able to save them. The tanks in question have been thrown out.

Everything is currently drying, and I won't be attempting to use them for at least 24 hours. I noticed that many of the atties, especially some clogged 510-T ones I had laying around had better airflow when I blew them out, but sadly one of my cignot ego-t atties still seems pretty clogged. I think I boiled them enough (some of the finish started to wear off) but I'm going to let them dry and do a dry burn before I resort to Vicki's suggested cleaning method, as I've heard that can permanently brick them.

I also cleaned the connectors of my batteries using IPA and q-tips. They certainly look cleaner, but again, I don't know how much I can really implicate the battery in a problem like this.

I'm currently vaping some backwoods brew maple tobacco out of a new CE2. I'll be letting the tank and atty I opened last night (which I did not boil, since it was brand new) rest for a few more hours before I try re-filling with some other BB flavors.

As far as the Basic flavors go, here is how I think I should proceed:

1) Wait for the newly cleaned 510-T atties to dry. I want to try it with these first, so I don't waste my last untouched 510-t atty by filling it with nasty dog breath juice.
2) Fill an empty (and never used) 510-T tank with some non-Basic VG tobacco I have laying around, for the sake of a control. Vape.
3) Fill an empty (and never used) tank with each of the Basic flavors in question.
4) Vape each, and see what happens.
5) Wait for the Tornado-T atty to dry.
6) Use a new tank of Menthol as a control, to see if there's any way that atty could be a problem.
7) Report back.

I'll keep you updated as to any new developments.

OK, so I just noticed something else that is very strange.

Vaping some BB strawberry juice through the tank and atty I opened last night. Just to experiment, I decided to switch to my other ego-t battery...and I seem to notice a flavor difference! One battery definitely has more of the "dog breath" taste than the other, which is especially weird because I just cleaned them both today! Can anyone think of a possible reason for this, or recommend a better way of cleaning them to see if that helps?

The taste is still in my mouth, but it's definitely better than it was yesterday. Perhaps something gross got in my battery and is still lingering there?

You ever try cartomizers? Personally I think the tanks are more problems than they're worth.

Yes, I'm vaping some BB Maple Tobacco out of a CE2 right now, but I'm still noticing the flavor, which is why I'm beginning to suspect something weird might be up with the battery. Unfortunately the taste is still lingering in my mouth (though less so than yesterday) so it's hard to be 100% precise. I'll definitely try a new comparison tomorrow, with a new flavor in a new carto.

Good grief, aunshui! I can't wait to hear what your final verdict will be. The juice I have the dog breath experience with is FSUSA Wyatt Earp. I love, love, love that juice but I have to make sure no condensation is clinging to the top of the carto or top of a tank before I put it away for a few hours or longer.

Another thought I had is I've noticed that juices containing stevia (natural sweetener) smell wonderful, are not spoiled in any way, but leave me with a putrid after taste (yes, worse than dog breath!). I only figured this out when I started DIY'ing my own juice. I tasted some stevia powder before I used it and it was the most bitter thing I've ever tasted. Turns out that genetically some people taste stevia as bitter rather than as sweet. Viola! That problem was solved.

Please let us know how your experiments turn out!

:)

Hey guys, wanted to add an update to this thread. I have been experiencing a bitterness and dog breathy taste more and more recently as well. I am a DIYer and also tend to stretch my gear much longer than it's designed to last. This has bothered me to the point I can't even pick up my e cig any more, and I had tried everything to get rid of this taste. Last ditch effort, I was browsing the forum and saw this post. Now, most everything in here I have tried: More water, pure PG, pure VG, mix of the two. I have even gone so far as to replace everything I can. I threw out all my PG, VG, flavor concentrates, attys, cartos, drip tips, etc. and replaced it all from scratch in fear of it "expiring." I'm still not sure if it was necessary as the after taste never went away. It's been the bane of my vaping existence and even led to me picking up a cigar the other day because the flavor is so much better than the hell I was going through. Now, from what I can tell nothing has worked until I finally came across the last reply from Momster. Reluctantly, I started checking everything for Stevia and sure enough, I am drawn to the flavors which contain it apparently. So I muddled around looking for anything without Stevia and mixed up a batch of 18mg pg/vg 70%30%, and sure enough my woes are cured!

Turns out that genetically some people taste stevia as bitter rather than as sweet. Viola! That problem was solved.

Momster, you are my .......ing hero! pardon my censored language there but after 3+ years of vaping I was absolutely devastated to be giving it up. I never thought about a sweetener being the root of my issue and would love to extend a hearty THANK YOU! I'll be messaging you as well to express my thanks just in case you don't see this one.

I've been vaping for 2 months now. I use carts. Over the past 3 weeks the same thing happens to me. It will last about 3-4 days usually. this time I am going on my 4th day. In the morning its not as bad, but by night time the taste is HORRIBLE!!! I have tried 3 different companies of liquids and all different kinds. New carts, tried everything. What is stevia and how do I tell if its in my liquids. The taste seems more on my tongue then "in my mouth."

I'm having similar issues - not so much "dog breath" - it's more like I've eaten food with garlic in it and a bit has got stuck. It's only on one side of my tongue - a really savoury taste - it won't go away! Sleeping, strong coffee, brushing teeth - nothing will shift it. I've been vaping the UK Liberty Flights' PG Turk and USA mix 24mg, so I might give it a miss for a while and see if that is the cause if my woes. Very unpleasant. I'll report back!
