OK, the grand baby has come home from daycare with Strep Throat. She is a huggy-loving child and has passed it on to me 8-o. She is finishing her antibiotics and I am just starting mine. I understand this infection can be very dangerous, can move to areas deeper in your body and it is very easy to re-infect yourself. I'm curious if boiling my carts will keep me from getting re-infected or do I need to throw out all of my used carts and begin again with new ones? I know that the end caps can't be boiled or they melt so I'm guessing that if I boil I will need to do without end caps.
Does anyone have any experience with avoiding re-infection via carts and avoiding re-infection in general?

Actually the strep throat virus can only live about 48 hrs outside the body. So take the carts you use while sick and put them away from your other carts, leave them in sunlight. You can wipe them down with alcohol wipes if you wish, even pop the caps and o ring out and wipe all that down as well if you want.

Alcohol will not kill micro organisms it only inhibits the growth and spread of it, but once the alcohol evaporates is it the exact same as prior to using alcohol. When they draw blood from someones vein they use alcohol to cleanse the area and not kill the normal flori on your skin. When they draw from an artery or something more evasive like surgery they use iodine or benzine which does kill all microorganisms but is not something you want to use with your vaporizer. I'd recommend washing the plastic parts with hot water and antibiotic type soap.

if this is true, then i think you'll be fine if you set them aside. maybe google strep virus and doublecheck.

Alcohol is toxic to numerous micro organisms and kills them instantly.

Actually, a lot of hospitals have switched to a 2% chlorahexadine 70% isopropyl alcohol product for prepping.

This product's research dept has said:
"The 70% isopropyl alcohol rapidly kills microorganisms versus free iodine, which requires two minutes to begin antimicrobial activity."

Alcohol is effective in killing vegetative bacteria excluding spores and including antibiotic-resistant bacteria, Mycobacterium tuberculosis (the bacteria responsible for tuberculosis), and various fungi but streptococcus need antibiotics to kill it.
