Hey everybody, somehow I can’t find the answer to my question.
I’m new to the world of vaping: I’ve purchased a J-Well Onyx mod (ONYX™ Mod Box | Power 75W | The Future of Vape | JWELL™), which I find really good, but the taste could be more intense. It came with a 0.8 ohm BTC Fiber Freak coil and a J-Mini XL tank.

Now, could I order a better tank that accepts both sub-ohm and above-ohm coils? I don’t care much about the clouds, I’m mostly looking for flavor. But nice clouds are of course also a good thing :)

Cowtown, USA. Where the West begins.
In addition to the Crown, a number of people out there like the Kanger Sub/Top tank, which also has a wide variety of coils available. The Aspire Nautilus has coils from .7Ω to 1.8Ω; and the Aspire Triton Mini coils also fit the same tank, adding a .15Ω Ni200 TC coil. The Aspire Triton/Atlantis family uses coils ranging from .3Ω to 1.8Ω as well, plus a similar .15Ω TC coil.

I am handicapped as I gave up pre-fab coils back when dinosaurs roamed the Earth and mods were carved by hand out of stone, so I don't know much about it. I do, however, take my duties as Noob Shepherd over in New Members pretty seriously, and these are tanks I have heard people say they like. Now, if you want to consider built coils-- a course I highly recommend unless you just can't stand the fiddling, as it is much cheaper and you can get exactly what you want-- I will be happy to make a recommendation or two. Or three.

Welcome to the board.

I am starting to consider RTAs. I live in Luxembourg (very small country), so I almost exclusively need to order stuff from abroad, which is expensive. And I’ve noticed most tanks have proprietary atomizers, so I’d be forced to stick to a certain website.

I don’t mind fiddling. I’m still discovering what my vaping preferences are, but right now, throat hit wise, I am content with my 0,8 ohm coil at 20W (3,35V), with a pretty restricted air flow. When I want more satisfactory tokes, I go up to 25-30W. The only thing that’s lacking a bit is the taste, compared to what I was able to taste at the local shop (who used an RTA for the tasting).

So, basically, I’d like a single coil, because it doesn’t waste as much juice. I’d like a throat hit at least as satisfactory as what i already have, and vapor production can be moderate, I don’t mind.
With my mod (75W), I have a temperature control and limit, I can kanthal as well as stainless steel, titan and nickel.
Top fill would be good, good airflow control is a must :)

Are you tired of me yet? :p

Tired? Lol, not even slightly. This isn't anything compared to some marathon threads I have been in. Take a hard look at a Wotofo Serpent SMM tank and and Augvape Merlin for single coil RTAs. I have and use both, and love them. I personally prefer the Serpent as it has a freer draw. The Merlin is perfectly capable of DTL hits-- I have one in my hand as I type-- but it is a restricted lung hit, not as free as breathing. The Serpent has better maximum air capability. Both have excellent air adjustment and can be closed down to get-a-nosebleed-fron-sucking-so-hard if you really like a tight draw. Both are serious flavor engines when properly built. Both are also available from Fasttech, with free shipping worldwide, from 20-30 USD (sorry, don't seem to be able to get the site to price it for me in Euro.)

For flavor, one of the significant variables is the size of the vape chamber, believe it or not. And there's a trade-off: big volume and big air is for cloud; small volume and less air for flavor (but air flow must be matched with the coils for best result, some experimentation will be required.) While you're on the Fasttech site, you might also want to pick up a Hadaly RDA clone. Cheap, and serious single coil flavor. You won't want to carry it about with you as you constantly have to add juice, but it will be nice sitting at home where you have a juice bottle handy.

Throat hit is more a function of juice composition than anything else. More PG in the PG/VG ratio adds throat hit. So does more Nic, assuming you use it. If you find too little throat hit, try adding one drop of PGA per 10ml bottle of juice.

FWIW, I find the cleanest tasting wick/wire combination to be SS316 wire and rayon wick. Caution: not everyone agrees. By "cleanest tasting" I mean you can't taste them; you taste the juice instead. Some people, me included, find a "break-in" taste from the rayon, but it goes away after a dozen puffs, or does for me. If you are thinking about coil building, that's where I'd recommend you start. And if you are considering starting building coils from scratch, there's a lot more to talk about before you start buying kit.
