Hi guys and gals,

Just finished wrapping my first coil and am proud to say that I finally have my ZAP running like a little fog machine. I used the "cheesecloth" method to rebuild my wick/ceramic coil after busting my stock setup last night trying to siphon juice from the tank with a syringe. It was 2 days in to the stock setup and while it was getting better and better, this cheesecloth method really does work quite well. I ended up inadvertently wrapping an extra coil so it registers at 2.5 ohms but around 4.4-4.6 (I haven't dared push it higher) I am getting a really great flavor with my "Dew" juice from HHV. Next time I'll wrap one less coil to shoot for 1.8-1.9.

I'm really NOT a handy person and am a little intimidated by DIY stuff but am happy to report a successful maiden voyage in coil wrapping! Now, I just need to baby this damn wick. I'll let you know if I have any issues if they arise but all is well so far.

best,
Matt

porous ceramic? if so this method works pretty well. I have been using the ceramic wicks for months and find the flavor just about the best. what the cc does is close the gaps between the wire & wick, which eliminates a break in period. with porous ceramic it is imperative to get a tight coil, if not you will get hot spot issues which inhibits flavor & vapor. one can wrap without the cc but if the coils are not tight it will not perform until you get a build up of stuff. this build up takes a few tanks, but eventually this build up closes the gaps. so using the cc eliminates this break in period. the only down fall to the cc is that it gunks up pretty fast which will darken the juice. you can dry burn the wick but this burns away the cc which then opens the very same gaps that the cc was hiding, although not as bad because of normal oxidation on the coil. anyways in the end the best way to do the porous ceramic wicks is to, from the start get a very tight coil without the cc. there are a couple of methods to do this. if your interested in the future PM me about it.

Thanks for the reply and the info, yes it is porous ceramic! It was JUST starting to get good on my first wick that I broke, when I snapped it...I could tell that that wrap was not particularly tight, too... this one is pretty good. I have read up on the other methods and do have a torch so maybe next time I will try to 'hot wrap' ... thanks again!

Not really sure how or when it happened but I think I cracked the wick, again...damn. Still seems to be vaping pretty well though, is that unusual?
