I am a n00bie vapor and have been vaping for 2 months. Over this time I have learnt building my own coils (still suck but slowly getting better) and switched over to DNA 200 devices.
Though I am pretty satisfied with Variable Wattage and slowly getting into temperature control I am super intrigued by mech mods. Not only do some of them look SEXY but they seem extremely convenient as well. But I am scared to take the jump as I am a klutz and I fear that I will end up blowing up my mod. On regulated mods the scare is still there but diminished because of the safety checks built in I guess.

So for a n00b who is actually a little scared of mech mods which mod can I start with ? I want something that looks good and can be used with my currents tanks (Goon, Petri, Velocity v2 clone, Troll v2, Serpent Mini & Merlin). I am looking at something with some safety features built in as well if possible. Also for someone who is well into regulated mods does taking the jump over to mechanical mods make sense ? What difference should I be expecting/experiencing ?

I'll recommend the first mech that I purchased and still use to this day. It has a few of the features that you mentioned. I currently use a Velocity clone and authentic Patriot RDA on my SB, and have used cartotanks and a Kayfun Lite Plus RTA on it too.

AltSmoke Silver Bullet

  • Milled from a block of aircraft grade aluminum. Lightweight yet extremely durable. I'm pretty sure I could drive an automobile over it and it wouldn't phase it. This mech can take a beating.

  • Upper side fire button. More natural to me than the more common bottom-fire button button of most mech made today.

  • Fire button is recessed, so it is less likely to accidentally fire in a pocket. Specially designed to vent gas through the button should a battery vent.

  • Uses a "hot spring", which is designed to collapse and break the electrical connection to the atomizer if the battery becomes hot.

  • Available in many different colors. It's a pretty attractive mod in my opinion. Made in the USA, so if you develop a problem with it you just send it back to the manufacturer.

You've been vaping for a while now, so you're knowledgable about batteries and Ohm's Law already. Using a mech, you just need to stay on your toes concerning safety to stay out of trouble.

A Beginner's Guide to Your First Mechanical Mod
  • Covers the differences between a mechanical vs. regulated mod, essential safety accessories, optional safety accessories to add layers of safety to your mech, routine maintanance, use of proper batteries, proper ventilation, low resistance vaping, and faux hybrid mods.

I have only one mech mod myself, and for pretty much the same reasons as you stated. Got mine (Becon mod) to have something in my collection that is not circuit board dependent. I did pick up an Aspire CF mod that does have some safety features and happy with that purchase though don't think it qualifies as a mech mod, but I liked it. I do have battery fuses to use with my mech and many of them can use a kick as well.

No dice :( They might have a few in store but talked to their manager and they aren't allowed to sell them anymore :( Sucks, I LOVED the look and the featuresn!
I have two. I use my black one every day. My son uses my white one you see in the pics I presented. We aren't willing to part with them unfortunately.

You might try qualifying for ECF's Classified section. There may be a feature that would allow you to inquire about people being willing to sell you a Silver Bullet that they are willing to part with. They hold up extremely well if you don't mind buying a used one.
Where can I get a Silver Bullet Mod?

I will definitely try the classifieds. I have no problems buying used.

Tube mech mods are an anachronism. They have virtually no safety features compared to a regulated device, are not as flexible due to operating at a fixed voltage which decreases as the battery drains, and require a degree of technical knowledge to operate efficiently and most importantly safely.

There are many who love them (myself included), and in some cases use nothing but. Why you might ask. Kept clean and well maintained they should last a life time. The chip goes pop on a regulated mod and a soldering iron and a screwdriver isn't going to help you. Their simplicity for me equates to beauty from an engineering perspective in this age of microchips and LCD displays.

Get one by all means but make sure you are armed with the knowledge you need to use it properly. I highly recommend getting several good quality clones, if the design works well for you then consider investing in an authentic. You may love them, you may find all the faffing around to get the vape you want a drag.

I recommend the Stingray X, it's the most aesthetically pleasing and best performing mech I have. Copper on the inside, SS on the outside and a floating 510 pin. You can pick up a clone for about $25.

Yes, Stingray-X. The photo looks like my clone too. There is a version without the X but I haven't used one. This version has a very nice button with magnets and a design similar to the Nemesis. The King mod is like a heavy duty version of the Chi You mod and is popular too.
