You know she would TT....IF you actually needed it....

Vaporgalinfla, that was a very nice thing for you to do.

I love to see people help people. That's the way it ought to be.

If everybody in this world focused on helping others who need it, just think about what an amazing world it would be.

So, with that in mind, can I borrow three dollars?

TT

I am finishing up my B.S. I started 20 years ago but couldn't finish. Psych major. My current class is Learning and Cognition. He does participate, some but not as much as he should, and he seems condescending and really strict on writing. He is American but spent a lot of time in Europe. I feel like he puts, Americans and the American system, down a lot. I sure hope i don't mess up my GPA, I have all A's so far and don't want to screw it up, especially when all my other instructors have like my writing style.

Your instructor sounds like a major jerk. If you aren't happy with your final grade, I hope that you fill out a course evaluation. Also, you might consider emailing or calling the Dean for the program. A lot of students tell me about their bad experiences and I always advise that they contact someone. Otherwise, the school isn't aware of how the instructor is treating the students. Also, just as an fyi - almost all colleges/universities expect instructors to actively participate five days in each week's discussion.

Vaporgal, I'm glad to know you're kind to your students. We had a terrible death in our family back in January, and I didn't realize how much it affected my son (who is in his "final" year at university)...until he got a letter from the college about the drop in his grades. I talked to him about it, and he admitted that he had not been able to concentrate and had missed classes because he was grieving. If he had realized how much it was affecting his school work he could have discussed it with his instructors, but instead, he ended up with a huge drop in his GPA. I think that some young adults just don't think of that in time to take action, and procrastinate until SHTF...so I think it's very good of you to give your student a chance.

That's too bad about your son's GPA dropping, but it's understandable. What surprises me though is that his college mailed a letter! That seems very cold to me. Personally, I think all colleges should spend more money on student advisors. Each could be assigned to so many students and when they see a major change in grades for the worse, I think the advisor should call or email the student.

If a student's grades dropping, I always try contacting the student. 9 times out of 10, something is seriously wrong and they just need a bit of guidance and understanding.

Thanks, i will keep it in mind. I got my first paper back yesterday 9.2/10. Hopefully, I can at least keep that up and get an A. I can only loose a total of 5 pts to keep an A, it is just frustrating because I probably average around 98 for all my classes, and i work hard and don't want one instructor, to mess me up, When i know that with most other instructors, I would do better.

Did the instructor provide constructive feedback along with your grade? So, you can only lose a total of 5 points to maintain an A? If I were in your shoes and in that course, I would worry. Is it too late to drop the course and take a different one?

Too late to switch, 90-94 = A- 95-100 =A He did not give that much feedback on the papers. I had a friend who had the same instructor for a different class and she showed me one of her papers that he graded. He deducted points, but is is completely disregarded of where the points were deducted from. He is an author himself, and he is really strict on writing style but unclear of what he wants. I have had far better instructors than him. We do evals, before the class ends. I am going to see if I can put off the eval until I receive my final grade but that is in another 4 weeks. It is 3 weeks until the class is over.

That's not right. If an instructor deducts points, he/she should state the reasons why. Also, if there isn't a required format in the instructions and/or the syllabus, then he shouldn't be deducting points. Definitely try to hold off on doing your eval until after you receive your final grade. Hang in there!

VGF, was in my class discussion tonight. We have been discussing "conditioning", someone brought up quitting smoking, which led to a whole conversation of e-cigs and if it is safe and works. I had a lot of fun. Posted some info for them and maybe will convert a couple.

Awesome! I've converted two students to vaping. I'm so glad that they quit smoking cigs!

converting students while they are still young is a good thing, keeps them from smoking for the next 20 years until they wise up. The U of A here in tucson has 50 thousand students. we will be doing some converting this fall. :)

It is an on=line school and most that I have seen are in 30's, 40's, and older. But thanks for thinking we are all young, :)
