rule clarification.. i need it if no on else does..

okay we all know that if a supplier puts up a post saying buy my wonderful product its the best there is.. he is in breach of the rules.. its spam..

but what about seemingly innocent posts that all carry a prominent sign off link to a website saying buy my wonderfull product its the best there is

it seems to be permitted but should it be.. ????

i mean a prominent link to your suppliers website at the bottom of every post made..

it is product promotion.. dragging up old posts and giving a quick answer purely to display your product link was soon jumped on.. the key being the product link..

make a thousand posts.. promote your product a thousand times.. i see no difference between draggng up old threads simply to make your link visible than making new ones..

but what i see often isnt what others see.. he he

but i would like some clarification..

ps.. and apostle.. do u see such a link on very post i make.. ???

and i would bet most users dont know the finer points of what can and cant be tweaked..

That would be the signature. my signature says "There is only one cause of death, and that is being born.
ApO. "
and that's on every post i make or have ever made.

but like i say, people can choose to view signature or not from the userCP

ps.. and apostle.. do u see such a link on very post i make.. ???

No i don't ??

but you may want to post in the suppliers private forum for a mod to answer tho.

I dont see any reason why a supplier cant give a link to their website in their signature tho. Every supplier seems to do it anyway. Plus as a supplier i'm sure people will want to know what you supply ;)

Hi Trog - here are suppliers rules if you haven't already seen them (sure you probably have):

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...ers-forum/1334-suppliers-rules-must-read.html

It says in there:

'However, you may put one link to your product/website in their signature line and you are free to contribute to any discussion in any forum providing you follow the above rules.'

just to clear up the link query - hope this helps...:thumb:

yes but i have also been told by the horses mouth i can only talk about my product in the suppliers forum.. this dosnt kinda gel with your interpretation..

my take on this is simple.. this place is read or will be read by many people.. a lot of them not members.. people who dont know tweaks and never will..

simply making posts that carry a prominent sign off link is blatant product promotion.. now i dont make the forum rules but i do have to live by them if i wish to remain a user..

as more and more people start selling e cigs.. as they will.. more and more people will simply make numerous otherwise meaningless posts simply to put their own link up before the eyes of readers..

this blatant self promotion has to be controlled.. okay joe.. no private PM.. charge the buggers so much for the right to use the promotion link..

this aint right but it will at least limit the coming abuse.. make em pay or dont do it..

I'm with you, Trog, but I turned off signatures at least 9 months ago. However, the practice of calling up an old thread and then writing "Couldn't agree more" or something equally inane just to get an ad visible to the huge majority of those who do NOT turn off signatures is objectionable. I've seen this many times lately -- and puzzled at why the old topic was resurrected in the absence of new information. I think you've pointed out the reason.

i dont have a problem with just like a link to your website in the signature. but the dragging up old threads that have been dead an they have no need for that person to resurrect them isnt a good thing. maybe us moderators will have to sit down an have a chat over this idea an see what kind of a conclusion we can come to, to make everyone happy

its impossible to make everyone happy shawn.. and the dragging up of old threads will be only the tip of the iceberg..

Don't leave dude- you've been one of htem ost informative posters here

If someone invents a new product such as you have done, especially one that trumps most devices out htere, they really should be able to talk about it & even promote it as the esmoker is looking for better & better products- if you're not able to promote it on a esmoking forum, my goodness- it just seems counterproductive to the whole esmoking experience to stifle innovation and hard work such as you have done

dont get me wrong here.. i aint looking for a way to promote my product.. i am (perhaps wrongly) execting not to be able to meet demand for the bloody thing as it is.. i am just aware of the blatant to me but perhaps not to others spamming thats going on and is bound to get worse..

my advice is for joe to make a link on each post a paid for site supporter thing.. at least that will stop every tom d-ck and harry doing it..

to be honest at present i now consider exposure on this site dangerous to me.. i need to shut the f-ck up and remove myself from snipe attacks so to speak.. its just the way it is..

i will stay around but i really do have to stop saying things.. the problem is i have difficulty doing this.. he he he

I personally also completely disagree with blatant self promotion and feel that first and foremost I am on this forum because I actually genuinely enjoy reading and contributing to the forum. If someone happens to read one of my own posts and checks out my signature link, that is their choice, if they then happen to decide that they would like to buy something then that is also their choice.

When I first started reading this forum (before I had a website) I thought it was brilliant that suppliers even bothered to post here, and more often than not, rather refreshingly, their contribution didn't seem like it was at all biased or trying to sell, sell, sell... but more so I got the feeling that they were very genuinely helpful and honest people.

Would you prefer to purchase from a website that you've never heard of and have no connection with the sellers or one where the sellers are actively communicating and accountable on this forum?

Obviously you do get a few people who abuse the system here and there, but I don't think many people on this forum will stand for having the wool pulled over their eyes, and will soon respond should they feel the integrity of the forum is being jeopardised... in these extreme cases, a moderator trial followed by banning would be inevitable to these blatant abusers of the system.

Put it this way, if Dr Loi or another well respected member of the forum happened to develop the ultimate e-juice and let slip in an unrelated thread, I doubt there is one person here who would hold it against him... more probably than not, people would actually really want to hear about where they could get the new product - directly from the horses mouth - regardless of where it was posted. In such a situation, I'm sure the moderators are perfectly capable of making a sensible decision based on the individual case and value of the member.

I definitely feel Trog must stay on this forum and carry on contributing in the valuable way he always has done.. this all seems to me like a load of b/s petty politics which I think this forum needs to nip in the bud. If people want to hear about Trogs screwdriver, let the man speak!
